Mimic

Mimic
by Serpia-chan

Author's Note : This is a YAOI fanfiction. This means that there are men graphically having sex with other men. If you don't like it, leave, if you do, feast your perverted minds on this :D
By the way, for those of you who don't know, Rikichi is the boy in
the 6th division that idolizes Renji. He is seen when Renji is trying to save Rukia, when Renji takes out other members of his division who stand in his way. If you don't know who Byakuya or Renji are, you ahould probably leave before we fan girls kill you and sacrifice your innards to the God of Bleach pairings. J/k ... well... sort of.

Disclaimer : I don't own anything. I'm a poor college student who lives off of bread and diet coke.

It had all started with those Ryoka coming to Seireitei, disturbing the peaceful lives of the Shinigami within. It had not taken more than a few hours for the 6th division to respond to the emergency call, which involved Renji going out to face the orange haired boy. That incident had ended in disaster for the young vice captain. Kuchiki Taicho had even gone so far as to have Renji imprisoned... something that Rikichi did not like. In fact, Rikichi had been planning a way to help Renji escape when the vibrant fukutaicho showed up out of nowhere and attacked the 6th division squad Rikichi was scouting with. Although Rikichi had been confused at the time, he understood. Renji had to try to save Rukia, they had grown up together after all. When Rikichi had found out that Kuchiki-taicho himself fought Renji, and Renji LIVED, he was even prouder of the red haired man. But it was a wonder that Kuchiki hadn't cast Renji out of the 6th division for challenging him. Either way, Renji was still there, and still able to grace Rikichi's boring life daily. He looked forward to it with an almost unhealthy excitement.

After the incident with Aizen, life as a Shinigami got significantly harder, especially for Rikichi. He was soon boosted to the position of 3rd seat, and had the honor of helping Renji run the 6th division while Kuchiki-taicho healed in the 4th division. Despite the struggles of having responsibility thrust upon him so suddenly, Rikichi thrived under Renji's command, improving at a very fast rate. Then it happened. Rikichi was carrying the finished paperwork for the 6th division, and happened to enter the Fukutaicho's office at precisely the wrong moment.

Although they had not noticed, Rikichi was horrified to discover that his idol had the orange haired ryoka bent over his desk, and was thrusting into him rather wildly. Rikichi had froze, his thought process stopped, as he watched the two lovers finish their act. Rikichi had then merely closed the door and walked away...

Rikichi shook his head, coaxing himself back into the present, back into the work he was supposed to be doing. He needed a break, badly, but he'd never ask Kuchiki-taicho for one. He did not want to appear weak in the taicho's eyes. Sighing, Rikichi returned his concentration to the document he had beneath him.

As a third seat, it was Rikichi's job to take care of the insignificant paperwork. This time it was a request document that had just been approved by the 1st division.

*Probably another one of our men requesting a transfer...* Rikichi thought.

Then he read it.

Attention Kuchiki Byakuya
Your request for the opening of a Senkaimon had been approved. Please ensure that you have properly prepared your fukutaicho in case of emergency during the duration that it is open. Also, please ensure that your fukutaicho understands that he will be representing all of Seireitei on this mission, and his usual “issues” will not be tolerated. He will be under the supervision of the 2nd division the entire time he is in the Living World, although I am sure that you will keep a close watch on him as well. The Research and Development Department of the 12th Division has arranged for him to use a specific gigai while he is in the Living World. Please have Abarai Renji arrange to pick it up at the 12th division office presently.
1st Division

Rickichi's jaw dropped. Renji was leaving? Sure, it had gotten rather awkward between them in the past few weeks, and Renji's lover had returned to the Living World a while ago... but why did Renji need to leave? When was he coming back? What was his mission? Rikichi had questions, and he desperately wanted answers.

Summoning up the courage, Rikichi rose from his chair, grasping the document tightly, and marched down the hall and into Kuchiki-taicho's office.

The stoic captain looked up as Rikichi entered the room.

“Can I help you with something, boy?”

Rikichi swallowed, forcing his anger back at being spoken to with such a lack of respect.

“Yes, taicho. I have received this request approval and I have brought it for you to look over.”

Kuchiki frowned. “Approvals do not need to be signed. I thought you would have known that by now. Simply do what it asks and be done with it.”

Rikichi's hand started to shake. He simply did not understand how Renji could handle working directly under this man. Having to deal with him only a few times a week was hard enough... he could not imagine spending most of the day in his presence.

“Sir, I was hoping that you might tell me why Renji is going to the Living World.”

Kuchiki's frowned deepened.

“He is Abarai-Fukutaicho to you, boy. What he does is none of your concern. In the future do not trouble me with such matters. Leave.”

Rikichi bowed and turned, hiding his face from his captain. Tears began to well up in his eyes as he walked towards the double doors of the impresive office.

“Oh, and boy, you will be replacing Renji as fukutaicho once he leaves. I will have a badge delivered to you promptly, and you will be expected to wear it. Understand?”

“Yes sir.” Rikichi closed the door and ran back to his office, tears almost falling freely now.

He was going to be made vice captain? That meant that Renji would be gone for a long time for sure. To need a replacement usually meant a Shinigami would be gone for at least a quarter of a year. It also meant that Rikichi's prior thoughts about having to spend every day with Kuchiki were about to come true.Vowing to show the taicho as little respect as he was being showed, Rikichi processed the necessary paperwork and told Renji to go pick up his gigai. The red headed Shinigami couldn't have been happier to hear the news.

Rikichi pretended not to notice the shiny new fukutaicho badge on his desk when he came in the next morning. Instead he sat down at his desk and began to tend to the stack of documents in the corner. That is, he tended to it until a very annoyed Kuchiki-taicho swept into his office and loomed over hid desk. Rikichi looked up, his best “blank” look on his face. Kuchiki's perpetual frown got even more intimidating as he leaned towards the defiant boy.

“Did you not understand what that badge means? Put it on, and come to my office immediately. You have a Vice captain's meeting to attend to shortly, and I need to brief you on what behavior will be expected from you. You do not have time for games. Hurry up and put the badge on, boy!”

Rikichi took a small bit of satisfaction at having pissed off the captain so much. He tied the badge on hir right arm. It felt heavy, but Rikichi was rather proud of it. Now he could get the lower ranked Shinigami to call him “fukutaicho” . Rikichi smirked and followed Kuchiki out of the room and down the hall.

Rikichi allowed his thoughts to drift away from the lecture his captain was giving him. It was a bit of a mistake, he realized later, because the taicho was giving him information he would need at the meeting. Soon enough, Kuchiki-taicho dismissed him and sent him off in the direction of the Vice Captain's Hall.

As he pushed the huge doors open, Rikichi saw that everyone else was already there. He was late. The 8th division fukutaicho, a slender, serious woman with glasses and a stern look, glanced as he walked in before going back to the speech she had been giving on the state of the weapons supply in the 8th division. Other fukutaicho looked up as he entered as well, but Rikichi tried his best not to pay any attention to their stares.

He pushed his way into the position for the 6th division fukutaicho, and vaguely listened to the rest of the speech. He couldn't help but think that this was the most boring activity he had done as a Shingami. By the time the girl finished, Rikichi was so lost in his thoughts that he did not hear the woman call out his name and rank repeatedly. At least, he didn't notice until the tall man next to him elbowed him in the ribcage.

“Fukutaicho, since you were late, you were skipped over. Now we will hear what you have to say. What are the current issues facing the 6th division?”

Rikichi grinned, deciding to be funny, since he didn't listen to what Kuchiki-taicho had told him to say.

“Well, the most pressing issue in the 6th division at the moment is that Kuchiki-taicho seems to have something up his ass. Oh wait... i guess thats pretty normal, isn't it?”

The other fukutaicho did not seem to find this very funny, to Rikichi's dismay. The stern-looking woman grimaced.

“Do you have anything else to add? You do realize that these meetings are written down and sent of to the captain of every division, I'm sure.”

*Oh shit...* Rikichi was in deep trouble now.

“I have nothing more to add.”

The rest of the meeting passes without anyone saying a word to Rikichi. The meeting dialogues would be delivered to each captain within an hour of dismissal.

Hanging his head, Rikichi started back towards the 6th division building. It was on the other side of the inner court, so at least he had a nice long walk to think about the grim end that faced him when he got back. Unfortunatley, to Rikichi, the walk did not seem anywhere near long enough, he was back all too soon.

Kuchiki-taicho met him at the door. He wore a rather grim look for a man that usually portrayed no emotion. Fists clenched at his sides, the handsome taicho looked positively furious.

“You are a disgrace to all Shinigami. You've embarrassed me worse than even the fool Abarai has ever done. You've left a blemish on the reputation of my division, and I have half a mind to throw you out of Seireitei. If you want to be with Abarai in the Living World enough to do something like this, you are not to be trusted. Now get out of my sight, boy. You've been dismissed. “

Rikichi looked Kuchiki-taicho in the eyes and stood his ground. He would NOT tolerate this treatment anymore.

“No. Perhaps if you hadn't sent him away, you wouldn't be in this position in the first place. What kind of captain are you anyways, throwing away your best division member like a piece of trash? Maybe if you weren't so afraid of actually liking someone, you would have cared about Renji. You wouldn't have ordered him to leave. You wouldn't have to deal with me.”

Kuchiki-taicho's face went blank once again, and he took a few steps forwards, coming almost nose to nose with the boy.

“I had my own reasons for sending him away. And I did not order him to leave, he asked my permission to go. Also, my fears and misgivings about relationships are none of your concern, and if you continue to talk about them in such a manner, you will regret it. Furthermore, I do not treat Renji like a piece of trash.”

Rikichi did not like having the captain come so close to him. He was even more intimidating when he was inches from your face, piercing blue eyes staring into your soul. Rikichi's nervousness caused him to say something he would come to regret in the future. Stepping forwards, so he was virtually nose to nose with Kuchiki, Rikichi drew a breath.

“Did I hit a sore spot, taicho? Everyone knows why you don't get along with anyone... its because of your dead wife, isn't it? You're still obsessed with her. Maybe you should realize that people like me and Renji come from the same district as her... You can call us trash, but you should realize, she's just as much trash as we are. Even more so, I mean didn't she desert her baby sister? What kind of person does that? Then again... she married you.”

Kuchiki Byakuya drew his fist back, and for the first time in his life resorted to behavior that can only be described as “koso-ish”. He brought his fist forwards with incredible force, and split his knuckles on Rikichi's nose. Rikichi saw a stream of blood as he flew backwards. By the time he hit the ground, he was out cold.
