Ulquiora was not to be seen for three whole days and nights (not that there was much to indicate the passage of time in the strange desert city or Los Noches.) Aizen saw fit to give his most loyal servant time to nurse his charge back to health.
The pale arrancar stayed close to Keigo’s sleeping form. Never more than a few steps away, he did not eat nor sleep. He did like to lay with the young man, and make him drink water. Sazyel had impressed upon him the importance of water. The pink haired espada felt it prudent to inform Ulquiora of the rule of threes. Three minutes without air would kill the boy. Three hours left in too cold or too hot temperatures would kill him. Three days without drinking water would kill him. Three weeks without sustenance would kill him. The arrancar felt disgusted what wouldn’t end up killing the weakling. He felt something tightening in his chest. Why did humans have to be so fragile? Doing nothing could kill the boy.
So Ulquiora kept a vigil. Keigo’s brow occasionally furrowed in mimic of pain. He would gasp out pleas for his invisible attacker to stop. Ulquiora would simply place a hand on the boy’s cheek and tell him to calm himself and all would be quiet.
How could hands that kill be so tender, lips that degrade the human species utter gentle assurances? The monster tried not to dwell upon the issue too much. He just did what was necessary to make the boy settle down and be quiet. If the boy’s skin felt soft to his dangerous fingers it was no matter to him. If the creature looked alluring in the silvery moonlight of endless night time, it did not matter. That the boy seemed to arch toward his gentle touch was of no consequence. At least that was what the cuatro repeated to himself.
Then things changed. The boy’s breathing sped up slightly and his heart fluttered. The arrancar was there waiting calmly sitting beside the boy expectantly…
…Keigo moaned. It sounded ragged, his throat was sore. He had been having a nightmare but he couldn’t remember. He was dying of thirst, and hot buried under some thick blankets. He slowly tried to sit up his eyes welded shut with sleep dust.
“Thirsty,” he whispered in a scratchy voice. Something shifted on the bed he was in and he froze. His eyes forced open and he looked about the room. It was too bright everything was white. Was he in a hospital? Maybe he got hit by a car? ...But other than a pounding headache he felt fine. A hand grabbed his. Keigo flinched for a second.
“Calm down boy,” Came the hushed command. That must be a doctor or nurse he concluded as a cool glass was thrust into his hand as well as some tablets. “Take those, Szayel promised they were just for headaches,” Again the soothing yet authoritarian voice spoke to him. He took the pills and the water swallowing both and tipping the cup up for every last drop of precious fluid it held.
Keigo nodded and mumbled a quiet, “Thanks.” His vision swam before he regained focus with slight tunnel vision but he could see the person sitting next to him on the bed. This was no person, no normal person wears a bone mask. Keigo gasped and began to back up from the monster his back hit the wall and his eyes dilated as recollection hit him.
“Ich!” Keigo screamed, “No!” He trembled looking right past the arrancar in horror. He could see those dead gold and black eyes in his friend’s head. Ichigo put his…he did it, he… “NO!” He screeched and clawed at his face in horror. When hands grabbed his wrists to keep him from harming himself, Keigo bucked and fought blindly
Ulquiora grabbed the boy’s arms and restrained him. Keigo was weak but it felt like he might break his own arm to get away at that moment. He had no choice, aside from hurting the kid. Ulquiora embraced him. It was neither rough nor tender; he was stiff not knowing what he should do. He whispered into Keigo’s ear in his monotone, “He will not harm you anymore.”
The boy whimpered and his body slackened. There was no point in fighting, he lost everything already. Nobody would look at him the same again once they learned he had been used. The bullies would be all over him calling him a queer and fag and beating him even more relentlessly. Perhaps someone might feel pity on him and just kill him.
Then he looked at the monster his eyes still hazy and dull, “Kill me.”
“No,” The voice said. Keigo could not hear an ounce of sympathy in his tone.
“Let me up please,” He squirmed.
“No,” The arrancar spoke more firmly. He had not expected the outburst (well the crying and screaming maybe but the dead determined look in the boy’s once soft eyes. Keigo was more a danger to himself than anything.
“I need to pee,” Keigo bit out.
“Fine,” He loosened his grip and got up. He took Keigo to the bathroom to relieve himself. Keigo stood on shaky legs glaring at him.
“I need privacy,” He demanded in a dull cold voice. He was looking around the room for something sharp anything to help him escape this nightmare.
“No,” The pale man refused.
Keigo wobbled and fell suddenly against the toilet. He hiccupped a few times then a gurgled sounding laugh bubbled up in his chest. He cackled, “Ha, ha, ha! I’m still dreaming! Ichigo would never hurt me!”
His eyes dilated and he fainted. Ulquiora’s nose rankled at the strong smell of urine. The boy freed his bladder when he fainted. He bent over and picked the boy up by the arms and deposited him clothes and all in the bath tub. He ran a bath and stripped the boy in the water. Then he called a fraccion to clean the puddle while he rinsed the clothes out and handed them over to be laundered…
…The days passed with Keigo being kept in or near a comatose state. When he woke he was given a little food some water and two pills. Ulquiora wondered if the pills were bad for the boy, ‘Maybe the dosage is too strong. Humans are so easily killed.’
He felt the need to go talk to Szayel again. He felt the boy stirring and prepared his small meal and water. He thought twice about it but did not give him any medicine. He had enough. He was going to take the boy to the scientist and demand he be fixed.

I've been gone a long time. Let me say that I have had a very trying and busy couple of years. My father has been fighting a battle against lung cancer for the last three years. My Dad's health is still in decline of course but he is in remission now. He has a few good (fair at least) years left in him. I was too depressed to write much and I am trying hard to get out of my funk. I hope to keep writing now that things are settled down a bit.

((My Dad Passed Away in 2013. He lost his battle with cancer. I lost access to my accont for a long time. I might just pick up where I left off now. For the time being I'm slowly trying to fix the punctuation in my stories. Anyway I'm sorry I've neglected these stories so long.))
