You Bent My Triangle!
Chapter 6: The Panther and His Tamer
(Pizza Is Definitely Grimm's Favorite Food!)
Grimm chose a seat at the furthest corner of the restaurant. He let her order never having had pizza before. Karin acted surprised, thinking of the day before; he seemed more familiar with human food.
"So Grimmjow?" Karin began, "Who is this Ulquiorra that wants to kill me?"
"Well He's an espada, like me. Look it don't matter, sorry I brought him up. I don't know that he actually wants to, ‘lie,’ anyway I will protect you if anyone tries," He clutched her hand. He had not let them break contact once since he had helped her up earlier, but he was not rough with her like before. He was less confused. He had to thank Ulquiorra because hearing him threaten her made him realize that she was important to him, ‘Course I'd rather crush his head then ever talk to him again. Too bad I was starting to almost like him.’
The waitress brought their food to them and they ate. He let her hand go only to scoot closer so their arms touched. Karin took a slice of pizza and began, surprisingly shyly, to eat. Grimm took a slice and mimicked her. He smiled, "This is pretty good." He finished off the slice and went for another. She had to force herself to look out the window so she would not laugh. She was still wary of him, but she sensed no harmful intent. It was strange, ‘Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I trust him.’ She shook the thought away. He was and still is a hollow, but, ‘but he looks like a little kid eating that pizza.’ She accidentally guffawed. She clapped her hand on her mouth.
He glanced sideways at her, "Whaf?" he said with a mouth full of pizza.
"I'm sorry, it’s just cute. The way you were eating." She smiled with a pink stain crossing the bridge of her nose.
"I am not cute," He sounded annoyed, but his eyes looked happy. He was pleased that she had thought him cute rather then, 'A MONSTER'.
"So do you need to eat, can you sustain yourself with regular food?" She blushed even darker and looked out the window again.
"Or do you perhaps want to know if I have to eat souls?" He frowned, now to himself more than at her.
"I'm sorry, forget it?" She said without looking at him, but she heard the unhappiness in his voice and she felt ashamed for hurting him, ‘Are you crazy? He broke your wrist, and tried to pry your knee cap off.’ She unknowingly started to rub her knee. It did not even hurt, but there was a memory of pain there.
"No, I don't know if I can survive without consuming souls. That is what I am, just a bunch of souls. Grimmjow is just their leader. If he ever lost control, that would be it for this being. I'd be a mindless killer again. If that ever were to happen run from me." He looked at her, a hint of fear floated in the cool blue pools that were his eyes. She put a hand on his cheek. She didn't know what this pain was inside her, like a dark pit of torment, ‘Is that what he feels like all the time?’
He brought his hand to hers and held it there on his face, ‘She feels so warm, I feel happy, not like when I'm having fun killing or shagging. Peaceful, I feel like my mind is clearer and...’
Karin took her hand away interrupting his thoughts, the emptiness crept back a little, only just a little. "Yuzu! I forgot about her!" Karin looked anxious and worried.
"Yuzu?" He looked at her waiting for an explanation.
"Grimmjow, can we go back to the school now? I need to find my sister. Oh! I forgot all about her and she needed me! I'm gonna kick the crap out of Mao. If he hurt her he's gonna wish for death!" Grimm liked to hear her talk like that, it was very arousing, but her face quelled his desires. He was shocked. He thought if he felt in the mood he'd just take her somewhere private and well take her...But not if she is sad. He could not do that while she looked like a sick cub.
"I don't suppose it would hurt, but then we have to leave this place," Grimmjow smiled encouragingly. He took her arm. Karin tried to pay but he insisted.
"Where do you get your money? You have a job?"
"Naw, that's just from Aizen's stash," Grimm grinned.
"Won't this Aizen care that you have taken his money?"
"He's dead, he ain't got much use for it," He chuckled.
"Aren't you dead?" She cocked her head in a way that made Grimm want to forget going to the school and lock her in a deep kiss.
"He's very, very dead."
"OoooKay," Karin let the subject rest.
After combing the school, Toshiro, Renji and Hanataro sent their mod-souls to class and took off in separate directions running through the city streets. They could not sense Karin, was she intentionally hiding herself? Was she already dead? Toshiro's mind sped over the possibilities. His heart ached, "I'm a fool! I failed my mission. I failed her brother, and I failed her!"
The youngest captain in the Gaoti 13 had lost, ‘No! She's still alive! She has to be!’
They were searching less than an hour when all felt Karin's presence, barely. Then it grew stronger and evened out. She was at the school. Toshiro's phone beeped.
"You felt her, right? Go get her Captain!" Renji ordered the boy, but Toshiro only grunted and did what he was told to do. He flash-stepped back to the school. Now he was not far from Karin. Her aura was much more evident. He caught hold of her pale purple spirit ribbon, "Purple? This is strange. Most souls are white. Purple is a fitting color for you Karin." He found her. He would never let anything happen to her ever again.
Karin and Grim walked calmly back it had not even been an hour and there they were at the school, "Grimm?" She looked at him determinedly.
"Huh," He looked down at her grimacing, as if he knew what she's going to say.
"I am going alone. I promise I’ll be back, soon," She could not believe herself. She was serious. There was a magnetic draw between them. He needed her to fill a void, she needed to be needed. They were both being selfish in that respect.
"No!" He gripped her right arm firmly, not enough to hurt her. But she could not break the grip.
"Please, my sister might be hurt, and I have to go alone. As soon as I am sure she is safe I will come right back."
"No!" He remained firm.
"Listen give me at least fifteen minutes," She took off her watch. It was not very feminine which is what suited her tastes. She strapped it to his wrist. It was a little tight, but Grimmjow gave no sign of discomfort, "It's 1:16 right now, If I'm not back by 1:30 you can come get me I won’t run, I know I could not run anyway. Right?" He nodded but did not loosen his grip. "Hey! Show me some trust! I'm trusting you. I trust you not to hurt anybody. I'm trusting you with my life right now. Am I wrong? Should I not have faith in you?" She was more than a foot shorter them him but seemed to grow in size with her irritation. Their eyes locked. Both shot electric gazes of anger and frustration at each other. Karin was not going to back down, on one issue—Yuzu Kurosaki. Nobody had ever messed with her sister and not regretted it!
Grimmjow backed down. She had intimidated him. He shook his head, and growled, "Fine." He sounded more like an angry cougar then a man, but she smiled and took his face in her hands. Her hands were calm and soft. His eyes softened, ‘She's putting her faith in me?’
"Yes, believe it," Karin had read the doubt on his features, "I don't know why, don't ask me. I have every reason to mistrust you; even hate you, but I don't. Let's leave it there for now, Kay?" He finally, and painfully, let her go. She walked away and the emptiness flooded his soul. He fought an anguished cry back in his throat. He managed to keep still. Having her near him so long made the pain seem so much worse when she left. She was his narcotic and he needed her badly, but He waited. He looked at the watch. The watch brought comfort. It was hers. It had her scent, a trace of her aura, which his body quickly absorbed and relished. He watched for her.
Karin was searching for her sister. Karin knew she must be in class so she ran back. She made her excuses to the teacher and dragged Yuzu into the hallway.
"Are you alright Yuzu?" Karin whispered excitedly.
"I should ask you. You look pale," was Yuzu's reply.
"Mao didn't do anything bad, he did not hurt you?"
"I should say not, but he disappeared after lunch. Which reminds me, where have you been," Yuzu frowned disapprovingly at her sister.
"Yuzu, Mao is scum, don't let him use you," Karin kissed her sister, "Please tell the teacher I'm ill I have to go. I will see you tonight, OK?"
"Um, are you sick? I should go too," Yuzu felt her sister's head, "You are a little warm."
"No, Yuzu stay here. Can you bring my assignments home, "I really need to go. Glancing at the clock on the wall her time was almost up. She pulled away from her sister, possibly for the last time. Karin did not want to think of it, so she suppressed the thought, ‘Worry about it later.’
"Bye," Karin waved and turned down the hall, not daring to run until she was out of Yuzu's sights.
Toshiro saw the dark haired goddess running out the front doors, there was a man waiting for her. He knew that guy, but could not place him he seemed to be an ordinary human. Nothing special, except that hair and those eyes. He pictured the man with a white uniform, and a bony mask attached to his face. "Grimmjow," Toshiro growled under his breath. He intercepted Karin.
Karin had Grimmjow in her sights. She was running now not caring what people would think. She was not going to break her promise to him. Suddenly there was a flash of white. She skidded to a halt to avoid a very angry looking soul-reaper.
"Karin, please stay behind me," He turned away from her, "I promise he won’t get to you." Toshiro drew his sword to fight.
