Chapter 5: Stormy Day Blues
Everyone had returned from their own scouting trips. Rukia was the last to finish, Ukitake had tried to persuade her to stay for the night and rest but Rukia declined the offer. Somehow, she had a sinking feeling that Urahara, Gin, and Grimmjow had no luck with theirs. The only ones who actually seem to remember Ichigo was Urahara, herself, Gin, Grimmjow, and Kon. As the 13th Squad shinigami made her way back to Urahara's Shop, she wondered what the shop keeper's next plan was. Thankfully she had made it back in time before it started pouring out.
She made her way to the small tea table in the main room of the shop. Urahara and Gin were sitting together enjoying their tea. Grimmjow had sat himself in the farthest corner of the room, just sitting their quietly. The atmosphere in the room was quite intense and heavy. Rukia joined both the shop keeper and the other shinigami at the table. Silence filled the room as all four of them sat there quietly.
The shop keeper looked to Rukia, a small smile gracing his face. "Would you like some tea, Kuchiki-san?"
The shinigami shook her head no. "No thank you, Urahara.."
"It seems we all came up empty-handed.." Urahara admitted sadly.
Gin was no longer smiling at this point. Even he had known this situation just seemed to get worse by the minute. "My, my. This is so depressing."
Grimmjow snorted with an unamused look on his face. "No fuckin' kiddin'..." His voice filled with anger and agitation.
"So..." Rukia began then paused briefly. "So what do we do now..?"
Urahara tilted his hat downwards then stared down at his tea cup. "We'll just have to go out on a limb then and wing it as we go."
"So this means we're done playin' twenty questions and we start looking for the brat then?" Grimmjow asked, sounding a bit eager.
The blond man nodded his head as he had a playful look in his eyes. "Absolutely." He pulled out his fan, covering his face with it. He chuckled with pure mirth. "It seems to me that someone is a bit all too eager to rescue Kurosaki-kun."
The blue-haired male shot a dangerous and warning glare towards Urahara. "Shut. The. Fuck. Up."
Gin looked over Grimmjow's way, snickering as well with pure mirth. "My, my. A bit touchy aren' we?"
Rukia covered her mouth and giggled as well. It seems the mood had lifted a bit. To be honest, Urahara was glad even if the situation was horrid at the moment. And he was pretty sure that Gin, Grimmjow, and Rukia felt that way as well. Earlier everyone had been quite depressed from long day of scouting out.
A low and dangerous growl escaped from the Arrancar. He was serisouly getting more aggravated by the second. "Piss the fuck off, Gin!"
Urahara smile brightly as he remained looking in the former Sexta Espada's direction. "I think Kurosaki-kun has grown onto you. Don't you think so? Gin and Rukia-chan?"
"Oi!" Grimmjow shouted out loud. "I only fuckin' asked because I'm tired of just sittin' around and goin' 'round askin' people fuckin' questions!" He balled his hand into a tight fist, slamming it against the wall.
"S'not true." The former third captain interrupted. "I think ya have a personal interest in Kurosaki-kun. Ya got especially angry when that boy thought that Kurosaki-kun was a girl who was in trouble."
Yeah. That shup Grimmjow up alright. What was his excuse now? He had none and the silence only made it more obvious that he did actually like and maybe even cared about the substitute shinigami. Dear god, was the former Sexta Espada actually admitting to himself that he does care about that orange-haired, annoying brat? The Arrancar didn't say another word and just walked to his bedroom in the back of the store.
The heavy atmosphere was lifted and everyone seemed to be in a better mood. Rukia began doodling something into her sketch pad, giggling every so often. She couldn't wait to harass Grimmjow with her latest masterpiece. She couldn't to see Ichigo's reaction either. Gin shook his head silently, chuckling himself. He couldn't believe that the Arrancar actually cares about the substitute shinigami and possibly like him.
"I think the first thing we should do when we get back Kurosaki-kun is to set him up with Grimmjow." Urahara shut his fan, smiling brightly.
Rukia snickered, nodding her head. "Now that I'm seeing Grimmjow in a whole other light. I could swear he had it out for Ichigo before the war against Aizen."
"I already knew that." Gin added as he grinned his trademark grin.
"WILL YOU ALL JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY!" The shouting came from Grimmjow's room. Obviously he overheard the conversation.
The room went silent for a bit and soon they heard the blue haired Arrancar take off into the night. Once he was gone, everyone began chatting again. Urahara was snickering behind his fan with a faint smile. Gin couldn't help but snicker as well. Rukia though, she was having a giggling fit. Once that was through, she took out her sketchpad and began to draw something on it. While she was doing that. Gin and Urahara got up from their seats and headed quietly to the backroom in the shop. The white haired shinigami closed the door behind him and let out a small yet content sigh. The expression on his face said otherwise though as his grin faded away.
"I know. Its not the same. But we'll certainly get Kurosaki-san back.." Urahara said with a firm nod, a serious look in his eyes.
"So we're just going to wing it? This rescue plan?" asked the silver haired shinigami.
"Yes. We'll take the enemy out by surprise. Planning and strategizing will take too long. There's also a chance it might not succeed. But I think a surprise attack might just work. Are you up for it? Gin Ichimaru..?"
"How can I possibly refuse this mission..? I owe Kurosaki Ichigo one for defeating Aizen after all.."
"I'm glad to hear you are motivated. There's no need to motivate Kuchiki-san since she was stressing earlier that Renji couldn't remember a single thing about Kurosaki-san. Same goes for Grimmjow. Especially since we ALL know the reason why he cares.."
"We certainly make one odd rescuing team, no."
"We certainly do. Besides, we make a very powerful one at that."
"Ya don' say.."
"Kuchiki-san is strong enough to be a lieutenant. Grimmjow is the only Espada to survive due to Kurosaki-san. You survived Aizen's attack by the skin of your teeth. And I'm just a humble teacher who taught Kurosaki-san everything he needed to know."
"I must say...bra-vo."
"The sooner we get Kurosaki-san back though. The sooner we can wipe out the enemy and restore everything back to the way it was.."
Urahara and Gin continued talking for the most of the night. Rukia had fallen asleep sometime after she was done drawing her picture into her sketchpad. She had closed it and held it close to her as she slept peacefully. There was finally peace in her heart and mind. The picture she drew and the conversation a while ago had calmed her and given her hope. Outside, Grimmjow was resting peaceful in a nearby tree on a branch. Hopefully tomorrow, there is no delay and that they can all get this rescue mission over with. The blue haired Arrancar didn't so much as care if most of the friends forgot who Ichigo was. But it did irk him just a bit to hear that Inoue had forgotten about him. I mean for god's sake, the substitute shinigami risked his life for her before and during the war. He shove away any thoughts and concentrated on sleeping. Tomorrow, all four of them was to head out and search for the orange haired teen.
