Ayame awoke and saw someone standing in front of her sword drawn, blocking an attack on her. She recognized the blade as Zangetsu. Her father managed to save her, but he was hurt, a red glowing blade sticking out of his leg. “Dad, are you okay?” Ichigo ignored his daughter and fought on. His opponent was an arrancar or vizard, but it wasn’t wearing the arrancar uniform, it was wearing a shinigami’s shihakusho, but the hole in his chest was clearly visable. “Captain Kurosaki, you die here. You and your step-child.” Ayame was in shock after she heard those words.
Step-child, what does he mean step-child. Ichigo was furious, he was going to protect Ayame with everything he had. “You won’t lay a finger on my family… NOT EVER! BANKAI, TENSA ZANGETSU!” The large blade compressed down into a much smaller nodachi. Ichigo flung his opponent’s Zanpakutō away and out of the wielder’s hand. “Dad, I can help! ‘Spread out and inspire, Aikage!’” her Zanpakutō’s blade disolves until only a small dagger is left in it’s place, a glowing mist surrounds the attacker. And her father lifts Zangetsu into the air, it starts glowing black, with a red outline. “GESTUGA TENSHO!” With that, Ichigo swung the long black sword, letting out his attack, the black glow blasting forth cutting and burning into the unnamed attacker.
Ichigo grabbed his injured opponent. “Who are you? How did you get into the Seireitei, and why are you here…” the expression on Ichigo’s face went from that of rage to shock, as the mask faded the face of his attacker was shown, it was that of his own 4th seat officer. Ichigo picked up his subordinate, and carried both he and Jidan to Squad 4 headquarters. At squad 4 headquarters, there were at least 90 people, all Shinigami, injured and being treated. Unohana walked up to Ichigo “Ichigo, were they attacked too? This is bad, Captain Kurotsuchi is trying to figure out what’s happening, so go tell him anything you know, we’ll help these two.” Ichigo handed off the 2 injured people he had with him. “Ayame, you should stay with your friend, he’ll need you when he gets up.” Ichigo ran off to squad 12 headquarters.
Once there, Ichigo saw Mayuri Kurotsuchi running out the door. “Captain Kurotsuchi, I need to talk to you!” “No time Kurusaki, there was an attack at Squad 4 headquarters” Ichigo’s eyes widened, he grabbed Captain Kurotsuchi and ran back to Squad 4. “Put me down, this is degrading.” Mayuri protested.
As ichigo ran into the squad 4 building, he threw his fellow captain down, his sword drawn, still in bankai from his previous fight. He saw another hollowfied individual, being pinned down by Ayame's Shikai. “Dad, it's Jidan, he's turned into a monster! Help me.” Before Ichigo could respond, Captain Kurotsuchi used shunpo to get behind the pinned Jidan and injected him with some drug to knock him out. “Don't worry little Kurosaki girl, he'll be fine, i'll take him back with me to squad 12 and run some tests, he should be back to his old self in a day or two.”
Ayame was in tears, the stress from today was too much. As she stood up and walked out the door she was stopped by a woman who appeared to be a captain. Ayame didn't recognize her by her look, but she realized it must be the second squad's Captain, Soifon. “Miss Kurosaki I need to speak with you.” Ayame looked at her, she was quite confused. Why would a captain want to talk to me. “Y...Yes miss Soifon, what do you need?” Ayamewas nervous, what did Soifon want with her. Soifon smiled at the young Kurosaki girl. “I saw how well you handled yourelf, I''m impressed. How love have you been at the Academy?” Ayame looked down “um... 2 days” Soifon smiled a little bigger. “Well, you handled yourself better than some Vice-Captains. I want you to join squad 2. you'll still need to go to the Academy part time, but from here on, you are going to be my new Vice-Captain.”
Ayame was stunned, she was barley in the Academy, and she was already being offered a seated position a Squad. She jumped to hug Soifon, but once in the air, there was no one there to hug. “Eep!” that was all ayame could say before faceplanting into the ground. Soifon helped her up and carried her to Squad 2 headquarters.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi wasn't paying much attention, he was too busy looking through a notebook for his notes on his recent expiriments. “Nemu, call Urahara and ask him for his notes on Holowficatio...” Mayuri was interupted by a man in a green striped hat. “No need, I've got them for you already, Kuratsuchi-san.” Urahara smiled. “This sure is a big mess you got yourself into, hollowfying that many shinigami. What were you trying to do?”
“You really are an unpleasant individual.” Mayuri grabbed the notebook from Urahara's hands, and walked off toward squad 12 headquarters. Ichigo grabbed Urahara's arm. “What's going on? What is happening to everyone, why are they holowfying” “ Captain Kurotsuchi was trying to reverse holowfication, but one of his test subjects got out, then it started holowfying anyone who it cut or any of it's victims cut. Luckily we all got it under control.
“Wait, Ayame was cut, she's in danger!” Urahara grabbed ichigo's arm, preventing him from running off. “Ichigo, she'll be fine, we both know she's already half hollow. After all, her father was one.” “Please, don't talk about him, Ayame is my daughter, not his.” Urahara sighed. “Ichigo, you need to tell her eventually...”

Ayame was excited, she would have never imagined that a captain would be impressed by her, let alone make her a Vice-Captain before she even finished her first week at the academy. “Ayame, I was wondering, could you watch my stepchildren? I need to go get the training field ready so start your training. Their mother should be here in an hour.” Ayame smiled “Sure, I love kids, I'd love to watch them.” Nekozawa and Aiko ran into the room. Nekozawa ran and hugged Soifon “Soi-obachan(obachan is japanese for aunt), can we go out and play!!” ayame was suprized when she saw the kids, she used to babysit them for Urahara occasionally. “Neko-kun, Aiko-chan? Soifon is your step mom?” Soifon was hugging Nekozawa “Yeah, Yoroichi-chan and I got married. She's amazing.” Nekozawa ran to Ayame, clinging to her. “YAY, it's Ayame-neechan.” Aiko, who was a shy little girl just stood back.
After a few hours Urahara stopped by and picked up his kids to spend the week with him. Ayame was in Soifon's bed asleep when Soifon got home to get her. “Ayame, time to start your training.” Ayame slowly got out of bed, and walked with Soifon to the training field. “Show me what you can do. How are you at kido.” Ayame turned toward the training dummy and held her hands up. “'Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws.' Hadō #33. Sōkatsui” with that blue lightning shot forth from her hands, destroying the training dummy. “How was that, Captain Soifon?” “Ayame, that was really good, why don't we teach you to use Kido without incantation.”
The next 8 hours were spent on training.
