Disclaimer: I do NOT own Bleach, NOR do I own any of the characters of BLEACH. Also I am not making a profit off of this. |
A/N: I'll admit, I have a fairly weak grasp on how exactly the shinigami Captains actually interact or even just act overall, so there's going to be some iffiness on their behaviors for now. Still getting a grasp on everything so not entirely sure where the story's going to go but it sure as hell is fun to type.
"You wished to speak with me, Captain?" There was no way of knowing what was going to happen, or what had already happened; she could barely tell what kind of mood he was in from this distance with his back towards her. But... she imagined it was his usual mood as always. "It took you long enough to get here; when I give the order for you to be here, I expect you to be here." She nodded softly and watched as he turned to face her; a bloodied rag in one hand as he used it to clean up the mess of his other hand. It was hard not to notice that the blood came clean off of his skin, which meant it wasn't necessarily his. It wasn't time to focus on small details like that and she tried to toss it aside like he did with the rag. "I apologize, Captain Mayuri; testing took longer than expected." "Excuses, excuses." he muttered angrily before he turned towards her. There was this sense of cold hatred in that glare but she remained unchanging underneath it. Fingers reached back to close the office door tightly behind her; sealing just the two of them inside for now. "Is there anything I can get you?" "You know, when I created you, I didn't expect for you to create this big of a mess; that wasn't your purpose. You know what I do to things that no longer serve their purpose? I cut them up and recycle the pieces for later. If this had been any other situation, I would not have hesitated to do the same to you. But... it appears you've managed to barely save yourself with this. It's a great research opportunity into possibly the next big break in Science or even weaponry. We actually have a perfect hybrid between a Shinigami and Hollow that doesn't require the filthy title of being a Vizard; that alone is the only thing that's saving you." It was hard to ignore the harshness in his tone and the cold, blatant truth he threw into her face. Had he found out before this pregnancy... there was very little possibility of her making it out alive. But she had been faced with those threats before; they weren't new but she knew better than to push them. "I apologize-" "Notice that I said it's the only thing saving you; not him." "Captain, I-" "There's no sense in fighting it; as soon as this little 'experiment' of ours is over, we'll finally have exhausted the need for him. He was just taking up space and time anyways." He was serious. How was she- how would they- what was going to happen? "I apologize, Captain Mayuri but... would it not be better to keep him alive to further this research?" "I had considered bringing in other female members to test this little theory; it would test on the reproductive means between Hollows and Arrancars and if there were enough successful trials then we could look into means of creating something better, some kind of fighting machine." The thought of other female Division members with him disturbed her greatly; she had sub-consciously ignored the rest of his speech and had focused solely on that one phrase. She had no need to share him; why was she so possessive of him? He had called her his 'mate'... that had to stand for something. "What if the gene structures are not compatible?" "Gene structures can easily be switched around and fixed; it's not an obstacle." "Then what if their bodies are unable to sustain the life?" "Like I have said before, Science comes at any price that's willing or unwilling to be paid; it's all about testing to see what does or does not work. If it doesn't, then so be it, we try again with a different method or with a different subject." he continued. "Why must you ask the stupidest questions?" "I was just- I'm sorry, it was out of line for me to question you." "Now then, back to this... 'topic' of ours. I've realized that it should be properly introduced; I'll get together reports and give them out to the other Captains, that might just provoke a small wave of possible volunteers for this new experiment. Some may frown upon it but it brings us one step closer to being able to fully understand these creatures; this could lead to a super soldier who possesses both attributes- your simple-little mind can't even comprehend that kind of advancement. Regardless, we'll have to carry on this experiment with careful precision and try to cut out any kind of outside factor that could taint this." "What do you suggest?" she questioned although the pit of her stomach curled at what the answer could be. "We'll have to do testing every month to track the development; we may have to separate you from the general public just incase one of those other airheads fully objects to this and causes a scene. So far I have limited it down to pure isolation but through what methods I haven't chosen just yet. We may have to move you to a completely different wing, or into a completely different building that would have you undergo twenty-four surveillance. There would be a team on standby just outside to keep observations going- I may just put Akon in charge of that if I pick that one. However, I'll make that decision when the time comes for it. I considered getting outside opinion from the other Captains but I quickly realized that their intelligence for this purpose is severely insignificant." "When you say pure isolation-" "Are you that stupid? It would get you out of my hair and certainly out of my view." "Will the Espada be able to join me?" "Ha! Please, like I would make the same mistake of leaving you with him for too long of a period twice." She quickly ushered away the feeling of disappointment and nodded carefully after his words. "Now then, I will no longer be needing your presence here; you are to report back to your room and you are not allowed to leave until I get back." "Yes Captain." Stepping back, she pushed the door open and excused herself from his office. There was a cold temptation to sneak away from her room and visit the Espada but... she knew better; she had been pressing her luck far too much lately- it was a dance on eggshells and right now, all those shells were crushed from the missteps. If she wanted to remain on this fairly vain, neutral level she still managed to maintain, she would do as he ordered and remained where he ordered her to be. It was hard to swallow but she couldn't risk it; for once... she had someone else to look out for. She was invincible; this offspring wasn't. "I thought the Captain ordered you to your wing." The voice came from one of the other well-known seated Division members; she watched as his dark eyes continued to scan the clipboard in hand before they slowly glanced up to her for a moment. Small horns seemed to protrude from his forehead as his fairly angular face seemed to be shaped to represent a demon of the sorts. However, unlike the look, he was far from that. If anything, he was one of the more respected and obedient members. He was also like her; created in the tubes and liquids that made this facility. She always had a feeling that if something as drastic as this situation had ever occurred... he would be the one to replace her position; Captain Mayuri always seemed much more fond of him than he was of her. "That is correct; my wing is in this direction." she answered as she continued on past his working station. "I didn't think you would listen to him." Akon remarked. She paused slightly at his words. "Are you saying I would disobey Captain Mayuri's word?" "I didn't say that... I may have suggested it, but those weren't my words." he shrugged as he continued on with his own reports. "I've overheard a great deal of information lately, mostly from the Captain and I was just simply curious of your reaction to this whole ordeal. Complete isolation. Threatening to kill that Espada you've apparently 'bonded.' Suggesting that this offspring will only be a subject of Science and nothing else." "As of now, I only serve as a host; nothing else." "Do you really believe that?" She watched as he didn't even bother to raise his head from his work; his pen never once stopping as it scribbled back and forth across his page. "What do you mean?" "Nothing, it's merely an observation that's all." he replied. "I've also observed that his wing is in the other direction." "... Akon, what are you doing here?" "What are you talking about? I was never here." XXXX XXX XX A long sigh left him as he could feel the small sedative beginning to wear off. It felt like his entire body was made of stone as the smallest movement felt like it took a serious effort to make. His vision was blurry and black in and out at times for just a few seconds; the short minutes he could hold an image in sight were cut off around the edges and a mix of off-shaded colors. Shit, it felt like he was going through a tunnel. Well his body was and his mind just wasn't fast enough to catch up with it. He figured he would've been used to this kind of thing by now... guess not. There was always something new every time. He went to push the lock of hair from his face only to find the motion was rather... well restricted. Much like his wrists were to the bedpost above him. Well this was just fantastic. He was all up for trying out something different but bondage was never one of his favorites. In fact, the few times he tried it- or rather was forced to try it from a few of his rather... strong headed mates- he absolutely hated. Although it was a little exhilarating to be on the bottom for once and having some strong-willed woman on top of him... but that was completely besides the point here. Just overall, the act of being tied down was not something he enjoyed. Too much vulnerability in it. "How mature of you, Captain." he muttered to himself as he played with the bindings for a moment; finding that the material was tightened to the point that caused an odd burning sensation in his fingertips. "And you wonder why I enjoy pissing you off so much." He supposed the down time would give him a few hours to think about the conversation with that ugly-faced Captain. There were almost too many times to count the amount of threats that had been thrown and/or directed at him; it was rather shameless to admit how many of them actually affected him. To think the Captain would actually cross that line and threaten to simply harvest the offspring for Science alone; now of course, that wasn't to necessary rule out that he too wanted to do the same but... if it had been someone else's, it would've been full game. But it wasn't. It was with his mate and with his offspring. The tables were turned and he didn't like the end that he was sitting at. Of course, he recognized that he was really in no position to fight that but... well now, he could have some influence in it. There was always the possibility of agreeing to several of the tests just to allow for his mate to slide by but part of him was too stubborn to agree to that. Ugh, the thought of sinking down that low made him sick to his stomach. Of course, that could've been a reaction to the sedative as well. The fact of the matter was that the Captain was breaking the line between him and his mate. And he was not the least bit happy about it. But... the man would come around eventually, he knew that. As soon as the ideas of future experiments would begin to rot inside of that empty head of his... he would realize the delicate nature of this situation. He would realize that there is only so much that can be done before the human-like body gives under and does what it has to, to protect itself. If he pushed her too far, things would not end well; if he stressed her too much... well there was a possibility that this whole operation would fail. Then again, the Captain would merely suggest that they repeat their earlier methods and regain the operation once more. It was really a never-ending circle with that man always somehow remaining in charge. The sharp hiss of air knocked him from his thoughts and he listened to that rather painful squeak the door made when it was forced open; ugh, the noise drove nails beneath his skin. "What's the meaning of this?" He looked up as she appeared over him; those pale lips of hers were cast downward in a small frown, however he could only seem to grin back at her in response. "I think you might have to speak to your Captain about this." "I just spoke with him... he didn't mention any of this." "I may have gotten onto his bad side." She could only frown once more at his answer before she carefully took a seat on the edge of the bed. Due to regulations and restrictions, anything ordered by her Captain wasn't to be undone unless by another order from him; which meant she couldn't simply unbind him. "He says he's going to speak to the other Captains about this." "I'm surprised; I figured he would've kept it a secret until after the offspring was born and studied." "I thought so too but... it would be safer to reveal it now rather than have it be uncovered later. After all... not all of Soul Society even knows about your existence here." she started. "It's too late for the other Captains to try and stop this; they'll just go along with it in foul moods and hope the whole operation fails. He's... also looking to see if several 'willing' test subjects might step forward for extracurricular studying." "So he told you about that, huh?" he chuckled; taking note of her rather silent stand on it afterwards. "Someone looks upset." She decided not to face him when she spoke; unsure if her humanistic emotions would slip or not. "I can understand his reasoning; I can understand that we would need to test with several other subjects and create a control group of the sorts. Unfortunately, while I understand him, I cannot bring myself to agree to that logic." "You're... jealous then?" "No." He sighed and shifted his body to try and find a more comfortable position that wouldn't erode away his flesh. "You just don't know how to react then? I think I might understand that feeling." "Why do you say that?" "How do I put this lightly? Well... I called you my 'mate' but I don't actually... feel a bond to you; I mean, aside from the obvious part where I was inside of you and part of you is me, but mentally... there's not much to work off of. If I had to put it into words that you would understand, I think it would be somewhere along the lines of, I don't necessarily love you. It's a difficult concept to grasp at the moment; the stress of the situation makes things more complicated than they should be. You're here carrying my offspring and I'm pretty much telling you that I almost feel nothing for you. It's not completely true, there is that sense of responsibility and such but... there's something a little more there as well; I'm not entirely sure what it is." She waited till he seemed finish with his little speech before she looked back to him. "I don't know how to feel for you. I wish there was more for me to say but... I don't know." "You know, I realized now was probably not the time to bring that up." he remarked. "Although, you're not technically the revengeful type- which is kind of how we got in this situation in the first place- but I suppose that doesn't really stop you from taking advantage of this moment." "I considered it." "That's frightening." She leaned back for a moment before she reached over to rest one hand on the other side of his waist; turning her body in towards him slightly. "I don't think you're thinking of it in the same way that I am." XXXX XXX XX "Wait, what do you mean you kept one alive?" He frowned at the question; watching as the flamboyant Sixth Division Captain seemed all the more angered by his announcement. Of course. An arrogant and pathetic fool like him wouldn't understand the long-term success a test like this would bring. All the man cared for was fashion and rules. "To repeat myself would be illogical; you should've heard me the first time." The only seemed to anger the man further. "Just a minute here." the pale-skinned, seemingly terminally ill Thirteenth Division Captain interrupted. His eyes moving from one arguing Captain to the next. "Let's go through this step by step and piece by piece again, alright? And just... make sure we have all the details." he waited for the other two to respond, only to be met by rather angered glares. "Alright, so from the beginning. You still have one of the Espadas alive?" "It would be foolish to get rid of them as though they weren't useful testing material; the fact that you so effortlessly slaughtered the others is a step back. At least I managed to salvage one and use his body to extrude more information from." "Are you saying... you experiment on him?" Ukitake questioned lightly; almost afraid of what the answer might be. Lord knew he had heard the sounds of ongoing experimentations radiating from the Twelfth Division house- and he didn't like the way they just sounded, let alone what was actually going on. "Must we really piddle away precious time with these questions?" Mayuri responded on a snap. "But, if we must, then the answer to your question is yes. I don't believe you understand the extent Science must take in order to get results. And might I add, these findings have nearly tripled the amount of information we had on Hollows before." "I'm not trying to attack you here; we are all aware of the damages that Hollows can bring and what we had to suffer through from their ongoing attacks but... that doesn't seem the least bit inhuman to you?" Ukitake replied. "Not in the least bit. Mercy is something medicine is geared more towards; not Science." "Well then, I suppose that explains why I feel a bit disheartened by this overall situation." Captain Unohana started; her hands lightly folded in her lap. Her soft words were enough to pull every pair of eyes towards her direction on the other end of the table. She frowned lightly for a moment before she resumed her usual composure. "You greet this situation with great pride because of what it could bring to the city; what kind of security and information it could bring for all of us. By studying this offspring and this Espada, we could use the information to ultimately outsmart and out-test our greatest opponents. But it seems as though you have forgotten... those battles were quite a bit of time ago; it's been two years now and we have had little to no other attacks. We wiped out their strongest warriors in order to protect ourselves- the damages have been done. The chances of another outbreak like that are little to none; it scrapes the bottom of the statistics bowl. In all honesty, this research is for nothing." His eyes narrowed at the woman as the rest of the Captains slowly looked back towards him for a response. "I'm not surprised that you would say something like that and ultimately debunk everything I've brought to this discussion." "I just believe that we're looking at the wrong objective here." Unohana continued. "To be true to our respectful Divisions... you look at the Science of this situation; I must put my attention to the Medical side. You only worry for the information coming from this offspring; I'm worried about the health problems that could come from this. How do you know this offspring isn't going to harm her body? Or cause problems throughout the term? There are a lot of possibilities that could stem from this and I just believe that you should think them out a bit more fluidly." "Pft, do you think I created her to be mindlessly weak? She will barely be affected by it." "How do you know? You said it yourself that this is never happened before; in fact, it's surprising enough that it happened in the first place." she pressed. The female Captain always had a way of irritating him to the point of nails pressing beneath his skin. Always questioning things that were not even part of this discussion; always spreading her worry for insignificant matters. "You act as though you want to do something about it." "I actually do, thank you for bringing that up." Unohana continued. "I want to form a small team to also monitor her-" "Absolutely not! It's very important that this remains a sterilized procedure with little outside interference." he interrupted. "So you just wish to have her isolated from the rest of the world then? Do you know what kind of damage that alone could do?" "Can we calm down a bit and try to think through this rationally?" Ukitake started; unsure how exactly he wanted to step between the two- the decision did not seem to be taken lightly but he decided to go through with it regardless. "Let's face it, both sides of the argument brought forth some valid points. I'm not picking a side here, I just want there to be a middleman and... seeing as Captain Yamamoto could not be with us right now, I believe we all have the ability to make the appropriate choice. Yes, this is quite a discovery and needless to say, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say it certainly caught me off-guard. I can... see the relevance to science and how it could project our defense and such... but I also see the medical side and how this could be just as affecting in a bad way. Without stepping on anyone's toes, I think we should all agree on a middle-ground." "Allow for me to create a team to observe her and make sure she stays in good conditions." Unohana spoke. "They can have scheduled meetings and only stay for a specific amount of time, unless they think something's wrong; in which case, they can stick around until their suspicious are confirmed or denied." Captain Shunsui added in. "They have no say in what I or my team do, even if it trespasses on their own time or on their own beliefs; they follow lab rules and obey any given order from myself as long as they're in my Division." "Ultimately the team has to listen to him but at least there will be medical guidance there if something goes wrong." Ukitake started. "Plus, I suppose they will also be able to help during the birth-" "No, that event too will be handled in isolation; too many people around will corrupt the entire situation. Not to mention, who knows what kind of diseases those people will be bringing in." "You can't be serious. You honestly expect her to handle something as traumatic as that by herself?" Unohana questioned. "Yes." "I can see we're all quite enjoying this conversation but might I add a small change in topic." Captain Byakuya interrupted as he pushed himself away from the table and to his feet. "What exactly do you plan to do with this Espada? You didn't think it would be the least bit suspicious to keep this whole operation a secret from the rest of us? It's like you had this planned from the beginning." "That fact that you had the audacity to say that is outrageous; all I have to say is that don't worry about the Espada, I have ways of controlling him." "Let me ask something else, how does this... Espada exactly feel about this whole situation; he is the father, does he even have a say in the matter?" Unohana questioned. "Must you continue to waste my time?" "All I ask, Captain Mayuri, is that you answer my question." "Please, after his earlier actions against her, I highly doubt he gives her two thoughts." XXXX XXX XX Leaning back against the stiff bed board, she ran her fingers through her seemingly untamed locks as she tried to process what had just happened. They had talked about how neither one of them felt something towards each other- or at least not enough to make much of a difference and yet... that didn't stop them. She didn't show any hesitation in taking advantage of him; a part of her almost seemed to enjoy listening to him moaning whenever her hands touched him. She had remained gentle though and made notes of the scars that continued to feel raw against his flesh; she made notes of where he loved to be touched and the areas that forced euphoria into his veins. When he was tied up beneath her, she took time to perform her own dissection of him; peeling away what she thought she knew and replacing it with new found knowledge- there was always something new with every session. She glanced over at the slightly bloodied bindings that continued to hang from the bedpost; his wrists were missing from their hold. It was a horrible chorus of him breaking his wrist in and out of place before dislocating half of his knuckles just to slip out of them. She had condoned the act but he barely gave her time to continue her dissatisfaction of it; instead she found him reversing their positions and making himself a part of her once more. It would explain why she was still in bed and he was elsewhere. Fingers paused in their activities as she felt a pair of eyes on her now. "You seem to have this obsession with showering. Is there a reason for that?" "It's kind of like a renewal process really." he started as he pushed himself from the wall where he had been observing her for some time now. "Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your scent on me but sometimes... it might be better if it wasn't there." She continued to brush aside her hair before she slowly started to re-braid the curled locks. "It almost seems to borderline an O.C.D trait." "Yes well, make what you want of it." he replied as he cleared the space between them. He leaned down slightly and pulled her around the waist; using the minor leverage to move her, he slipped himself into her former spot and leaned back against the bed board himself; forcing her to sit between his legs now. Fingers reached around and pulled her mess of black hair back towards him as he watched every lock fall in sheets across her back. Gently running his fingers through the strands, he slowly parted the mess into three groups before he worked his way through the process of re-braiding her hair. She leaned forward and carefully draped her arms around her knees as she pulled them just lightly in towards her chest; trying to ignore the small discomfort her stomach gave her. He was gentle with every motion and yet managed to keep each strand and braid tight. It wasn't like she had expecting him to take on the task but... she supposed the small gesture meant something at least. The small silence between them seemed to come at ease and relax itself in the back of their minds; she had a suspicion that this may be the last time she would be able to spend time like this with him. He had never really been a master at braiding but he had witnessed her do it countless times before and had taken notes of her technique. It was really quite an easy process once he got the hang of it and by the end of it, he almost had to congratulate himself on the piece of work. Trying the end of it carefully with a small red bead, he traced the pattern with his fingertips before he carefully pushed the braid aside and over one shoulder. A soft inhale widened in her lungs as he brushed his lips against the curve of the back of her neck; feeling the skin still flushed and the light hint of sweat from before. Hands moved around and caressed the soft curves and contours of her body like he had never touched them before; pulling her back in towards his body as he moved to repeat the pattern of her naked flesh. Fingertips followed the soft grooves of her collarbones and skimmed over the tender flesh of her breasts; feeling the light marks of where he might've drawn blood a few times with his teeth. Her ribcage seemed to press back against his palms as his touches felt as though they were controlling her breathing. A small exhale escaped her as she felt his lips move to the dip of her shoulder as his hands crossed one another over her sore abdomen; the heat of his touch both soothed and intensified the aching of her muscles. She carefully reached back and traced the curve of his jawline with the brief skin of her fingertips before lightly she tangled her fingers in his pink strands. "This isn't going to last forever, is it?" He hummed lightly as he felt her remaining hand slowly run over his before he moved to sandwich it between them both. "When I told you before that my bond with you was weak... that was then. Right now, I feel like I don't want to lose you; I can hear your heartbeat in my chest and every breath in my lungs." "What does that mean?" she whispered. "It means I'm going to do whatever I can to protect you... no matter the cost."While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
