Lifting his cup of tea to his lips and sipping, Urahara eyed Ichigo, who was sitting across from him as she smiled sweetly at her and stirred sugar into her coffee.
“So, tell me, Kurosaki-chan, have you seen anyone else since you arrived for a visit?” he asked, sounding almost innocent. Ichigo didn’t buy it for a single moment but didn’t let any of her disbelief show on her face.
“Yes, I have. I stopped by to see the Vizard’s a couple of days ago, and I stopped by to see Tatsuki yesterday,” Ichigo said, tapping her spoon on the side of her cup before setting it down. “Orihime was there visiting.”
“How did that all go?” Urahara asked softly, worry crossing his face. Ichigo shrugged while a frown tugged at her lips.
“I suppose it went well enough,” she said, sounding hesitant as she leant forward to rest her elbows on the table, eyes thoughtful. “She was quiet while I was there. Watched me a lot granted, but still quiet.”
“I’m actually glad that the two of you aren’t actually arguing now. But I am still sad that this rift has happened between the two of you,” Urahara said.
Ichigo shrugged while she smiled softly. “It was, unfortunately, a long time coming. I really should have come out as a gay male a long time ago but with life being as busy as it was, that time was always pushed back until this happened.”
“I do suppose that invading Soul Society and the Seireitei to stop someone from killing your friend does come before coming out with your sexuality,” Urahara drawled as he pulled out his fan. It was waved before his face, hiding a bright smile behind it. Ichigo just tossed a glare at him before throwing her spoon at him, unsurprised that he dodged the silver utensil.
“Oh, go shove it somewhere painful, you perverted shopkeeper,” Ichigo huffed at him before draining her cup. Setting the cup and saucer aside, her thoughts turned to more business-oriented thoughts. “Has anything new happened while I was in Los Noches and the Seireitei?” she asked.
“Nothing amazing actually. The usual hollows have been around of course; the Visoreds are helping with them of course. Aizen has sent me a few letters on what he plans to do now that things are being cleaned up in the Seireitei. His plans do not include attacking anyone any time soon,” was the almost bored sounding reply. Ichigo tilted her head in question at that, Urahara smiling lightly at her. “He plans to send Unohana-chan a letter asking about a truce between Seireitei and Los Noches.
“A truce and treaty would help to restore the former glory of Hueco Mundo and finish clearing out the last of the rot of the Soul Society. She’s done quite a bit, from what I’ve seen, but we can always use someone with some major political knowhow and clout to finish it. People will scramble to end the war in any way possible. And if that includes making a treaty and letting Aizen have rule over Hueco Mundo, then so be it,” he said, Ichigo nodding thoughtfully.
“I see,” Ichigo said, her eyes already lost in thought as she stared at some point over Urahara’s shoulder. Urahara just smiled and stood, gathering their cups to refill them while she thought. When he came back, she had pulled out some paper and a pen, writing down what looked to be a chronological list of what had happened since Rukia had come into her life in pretty basic detail.
Placing her cup down next to her, he sat in the cushion next to her own and read what she had already written with a frown. “Did she really lie to you about the account that was created the moment your power signature was marked as an ally?” Urahara asked her, taken by surprise by that.
“Yeah. Just imagine my surprise when Hitsugaya-kun walked up to me and asked why I haven’t used any of the money in my account for anything that I needed,” Ichigo snorted. “Apparently the Tenth is watching over the account along with all of the interest that I accumulate. Luckily enough, she wasn’t able to touch any of it. Otherwise I’d be suing her for fraud on top of everything else going on.”
“Why aren’t you suing her for withholding valuable information about your accounts?” Urahara asked, Ichigo flicking a wrist at him as she made a couple more notes.
“It’s a waste of time. She’s already being punished for her serious fuck ups as it is. Along with the punishment that Byakuya set for her, she’s on probation and is being watched heavy by the Second on Unohana-san’s orders,” Ichigo said. “I’m not that much of a bitch. Male or female.”
“I know that you can be,” Urahara drawled, his eyes glowing, getting a glare from her again before she went back to writing down the events. Sitting back on one of his hands, the man watched his young student with assessing eyes. Now that he actually had the time and the knowledge about her, he could see all of the changes that Ichigo had gone through in the last three years.
As a male, Ichigo had done nearly nothing but scowl at everyone. She still did that, but it was more of a “resting bitch face” as Uryu had called it. Urahara supposed that with all the fighting and waiting, she had learned that there was more to life than just hurting about a loss of a loved one for years. She still hurt, still mourned her mother, yes, but that open wound was starting to heal.
Even as a male, she had only gained a couple inches of height since everything had started, but her body had become compact with muscle. Even with her newly acquired curves hadn’t stopped her from having them, just made it softer. Her body, male or female, just fit who she was. She was comfortable in her own skin, even as a woman, which pleased him and Isshin since they had worried about the fact that she had lost her physical gender.
“So how was the festival that you went to?” he asked, sitting up straight to gaze at her from under his hat. Ichigo’s lips twitched slightly as a blush spread over her cheeks.
“It turned out to be a lovely night,” she said, making Urahara chuckle at her. “Byakuya-kun was a very sweet man, and Renji even treated me to a few games,” she said, looking up from her notes.
“I’m glad that your date with Bya-kun went so well and he treated you so well,” Urahara said, getting a rare, gentle smile from her.
“Both he and Renji-kun have both treated me well. They have also let me talk with them about various things that I couldn’t talk with my dad about,” Ichigo said as she rested her chin on one hand. Urahara raised an eyebrow in a silent question. “It’s not like I can go up to him and ask him some question about sex.”
“I see. Yes, that would be embarrassing wouldn’t it? And just why couldn’t you come to me to get your answers?” Urahara asked.
Ichigo snorted and shook her head at him. “I couldn’t come to the man who is fucking my father, thank you very much,” she snorted, watching as Urahara sputtered. “What? You didn’t think that I wouldn’t hear you sneak in and out of dad’s bedroom? Your stealth needs some serious work. You’re lucky that I had headphones on most of the time while I did some homework.”
“Yes, apparently it does, and I am,” Urahara huffed, smiling at his lover’s child as he just gave him a vaguely innocently bored face. “You are nothing but an imp. You knew that your father would pounce on me the moment that he could.”
“Considering I told him that he needed to do that?” she said sweetly, her lips stretching into a broad smile.
“Imp. I swear,” Urahara laughed, shaking his head. “Tell me, what is it that you are planning on doing for the next few days?”
“I’m going to continue to hang out with my family, maybe see Sado and Ishida while I’m at it. It has been a while since I’ve just hung out with them,” Ichigo replied, her eyes turning towards the window as her eyebrows drew together. “Maybe finish off some homework. Did you feel that?” she asked, another flash of power brushing against her senses.
“Indeed I did,” Urahara said, eyes glinting. “Shall we go see what is causing that?” he asked, his voice razor sharp behind the lightness of his tone.
“Yes, I do believe that we shall,” Ichigo said, pushing her soul free by using her badge. Standing, she moved her limp body to lay across the floor pillows before following Urahara out of the shop, heading to where they could feel the surges. It didn’t take them very long to get to the area, Ichigo holding tight onto the hilt of Zangetsu, her eyes moving over the surrounding area.
Looking around, she found that they were near several abandoned warehouses, the area almost eerily quiet even with the sun that was shining down on them.
“Watch out!” Urahara snarled as he grabbed Ichigo around her waist, jumping out of the way of a jet of fire aimed at her. A strange creature made of fire and magma landed before them, a woman with brown hair that fell down her back and brown eyes that stared at them landing on a low wall.
She looked almost bored as she said, “So, you’re the one known as Kurosaki Ichigo. How...dull.”
