Chapter 3: The Odd Pair Out; Gin Ichimaru works with Grimmjow Jeaggerjaques
After Gin and Grimmjow slipped into their gigai's, they left Urahara's Shop and searched around Karakura Town for friends and acquaintances of Ichigo. The first person they saw was Orihime Inoue. She was apparently leaving the grocery store with a few bags off odd ingredients. They nonchalantly approached the orange-haired girl. Gin wore his usual grin like always while Grimmjow scowled lightly.
"Yo, princess." The former Sexta Espada called out to her.
"We don' mean to bother ya or frighten ya but could we ask ya a few simple questions?" The former third captain asked politely.
Inoue nodded her head, a smile gracing her face. "Mm. Sure!"
"Do ya know anyone by the name of Kurosaki Ichigo..?" The blue-haired male asked so bluntly.
The orange-haired girl shook her head, nervously laughing. "I-I'm sorry. I-I don't know anyone by that name. Besides, the Kurosaki household doesn't have a son. They have two small daughters."
"Due excuse us for a second." Gin nodded politely and then pulled Grimmjow off to the side for a moment. His smile had faltered, now looking a bit more concerned. "If my guess is correct then... Kurosaki-kun's mother is alive since he's been erased from memories and this timeline.."
"Sounds pretty fucked up ta me.." Grimmjow snorted with an unamused look on his face.
The silver-haired man turned to face Inoue, his trademark grin returning. "Thank you, Orihime-chan. That is all."
With that, Inoue continued on her way and Grimmjow along with Gin made their way onto the next friend of the substitute shinigami's. Sado Yatsutora. He was apparently at the pet shop, looking at the different types of animals there. The former third captain and the former Sexta Espada made their way across the street and over to the pet shop. Once they made it over to the pet shop and entered inside both the shinigami and Arrancar were getting weird looks. Probably due to the fact that Gin has silver hair and Grimmjow has blue hair. Despite the attention that was given to them whether bad or good, they simply ignored it.
Gin sauntered over to Chad, gently tapping the teen on his shoulder. "Pardon, Sado-kun but I would like ta ask ya something if ya don' mind that is."
Chad politely nodded his head in response. "Sure. Go ahead."
"Ya wouldn't happen ta know anyone by the name Kurosaki Ichigo would ya?" He asked as he stared down at the boy, grinning.
Well that certainly made Chad uncomfortable. He was silent for a bit before answering back. "No. I'm sorry, sir. But I do not know anyone by that name."
Gin just nodded. "Thank ya for ya time then."
Both the shinigami and the Arrancar departed from the pet shop and head back out on the streets. There was still a few more people to find and question. The Quincy, Ishida Uryuu and those other two boys that Ichigo hung out with. And then there was the orange-haired teen's childhood friend, Tatsuki. Rukia was left with questioning the Captains and Lieutenants from Seireitei and Urahara had made it clear that he would question Isshin alone.
In Seireitei Rukia was told to not bother Captain Commander or his lieutenant, so she would start her questioning with the Captain Sui Feung and her lieutenant first and work her way down from there. When Rukia tried to approach the Second Squad office, she was quickly turned down. Omaeda told Rukia that neither him nor the captain knew the name and that she was way too busy with her duties to be bother by a silly question like that. Next was Squad three on the list. She made her down to the Third Squad's office. Hopefully Kira wouldn't be too busy to answer a few simple questions.
Rukia knocked on the Third Squad Office door and waited patiently for the third squad's lieutenant to answer. The door finally opened after waiting two long minutes outside. Kira had let her in and she entered inside. The third squad lieutenant was a gloomy looking guy with blond shoulder length hair.
"Is there something you need, Rukia-san?" Kira asked her, his blue eyes looking at her with concern.
Rukia nodded her head, he expression completely serious. "I would like to ask you just a few questions, Lieutenant Kira. If that's okay with you?"
Kira waved his hand dismissively with a small nod. "Of course you can."
"Do you remember Kurosaki Ichigo?" she asked.
"No. I'm afraid I do not, Rukia-san" he replied. "Who are they exactly?"
"Ichigo is a substitute shinigami.." she replied almost hesitantly.
"I never even heard of such a thing" he said, raising a brow questioningly.
"Ah, I see then.." Rukia said, a sad smile gracing her face. "Sorry to have bothered you.."
Rukia went to question Squad Four and Five after. Both squads gave her the same reply as well. No they have not heard of Kurosaki Ichigo. And that they never heard about such a thing called a substitute shinigami. However, she did find it odd that Aizen wasn't around since Ichigo seemed to be erased. Apparently Aizen had been locked up for months in the detention center for suspicions of treason. Even if there is little proof to go off on, Central 46 had already decided to lock him up and have his Zanpakutou taken away. Rukia slowly and hesitantly made her way to Squad Six's office. If not Byakuya could remember, she at least hoped Renji would remember. The orange-haired teen and the red-haired shinigami were close friends and all. Hearing Renji not remembering who Ichigo was would simply break her heart.
She was about to knock on the door when Renji opened it and stared down at her in question. The red-haired shinigami stepped aside, allowing the other shinigami to enter inside. It seems Byakuya wasn't at his office at the moment. She had already known what his answer would be though, so she wouldn't bother with talking to her brother. Silence fell between the two of them. Usually it was easy to talk to each other, being childhood friends and all. Somehow, this time it was different.
"Something on yer mind, Rukia?" Renji asked sounding a bit concerned.
"Do you remember who Kurosaki Ichigo is..?" Rukia asked before biting her bottom lip. Her eyes held a sad look in it.
"I'm sorry, Rukia. But I don't know who this Kurosaki Ichigo person is.." he replied. "Who are they?"
"Ichigo is a substitute shinigami..." Rukia replied hesitantly and cautiously. She frowned a little as she could feel a sharp pain in her chest.
"Odd. I never heard of such a thing in all my years of being a shinigami."
"You idiot!" She shouted, she reached up and grabbed him by the collar, yanking him down to her level. "How can you forget who he is?!"
"Oi, Rukia..! Calm the hell down already!" Renji was definitely worried about her. She didn't sound like her usual self.
"No! I won't!" Tears were forming in her sad eyes, her voice filled with anger. "You and Ichigo are close friends! You both fought side by side with each other in battles! How could you just simply forget who he is?!"
The red-haired shinigami sighed, kneeling down. He wrapped his arms around his childhood friend and rubbed her back to comfort her. He had a hard time understanding why she was so upset about this Kurosaki Ichigo person. Rukia pulled away after and stopped sobbing. She rubbed her eyes and fled out of the Squad Six's office. The red-haired shinigami sighed once more before returning to do some paperwork.
Back in Karakura Town Grimmjow and Gin weren't having much luck either. The other two boys that hung out with the substitute shinigami didn't remember him at all. And the taller one seem to have thought that the orange-haired male was a girl due to the first name that is. The arrancar and shinigami had no luck with the childhood friend Tatsuki as well. The next person to come across would be the Quincy. Ishida Uryuu. Luckily Gin spotted the Quincy from across the street. Ishida happen to be leaving a fabric store with a shopping bag in hand. The silver-haired man instructed the blue-haired male to stay put while he quickly questioned Ishida.
Grimmjow agreed and rested up against the brick building wall while Gin sauntered over in the direction of the Quincy. The former Sexta Espada was pretty sure that the answer would be the same like the last five were. Ishida stopped in his steps and turned to face the former third captain. "What is it..?"
Gin simply smiled. "I was wonderin' if I can ask ya a few questions if ya don' mind."
The Quincy gave the shinigami a glare. One filled with hatred. "Sorry but I'm not obligated to answer to the likes of a shinigami like you."
"Oh? And why do ya say something like that?" His smile never faltering at all. At least the Quincy knew what he was. Gin was pleased or at least seemed to look pleased.
The teen snorted lightly, pushing up his glasses on the bridge of his nose. "I hate shinigamis. That's why."
"Do ya now?"
"Yes, I do."
"So does this mean ya hate Kurosaki Ichigo then?" Gin asked with all too well smirk on his face.
Ishida sighed, looking rather annoyed at the moment. "One, I do not know who this Kurosaki Ichigo is. And if I knew who they were and they happened to be a shinigami then the answer should be obvious to you." Once the Quincy was done answering, he continued on his way back home from the fabric store.
Grimmjow headed across the street to where the former third captain was and stood beside him. He had one brow raised while staring at him. "So any luck..?"
The silver-haired man shrugged as he turned to face the blue-haired male. "The Quincy doesn't know who Kurosaki-kun is either. But he still hates shinigamis."
The Arrancar snorted with a bored expression gracing his face. "Tch.. No surprise there.. Anyways, our work here is down fer now. Let's get back to that guy's shop.."
Gin nodded his head in agreement and both of them made their way back slowly to Urahara's Shop. Once they were there, they would wait for the return of Urahara himself and Rukia. Grimmjow's expression changed again, he now looked extremely pissed and agitated. When the shinigami noticed this, his smile disappeared followed by a small pout. He wondered the reason why though that the Arrancar's mood suddenly changed. Nonetheless, he remained quiet as they made their way back.
