The
Awakening
Disclaimer: Once again
I do not own the characters or the anime that they belong to. I apologize if
the formatting gets screwed up I have been attempting to fix this for a while.
So if anyone can tell me why a word document that is typed normally turns out
like the last two chapters I am all ears. So to set the record straight, Gundam Wing and Bleach are not mine! They belong to their
respective creators and I can only dream about owning them ok?

“There are two Espada heading
this way!” Rangiku yelled as she received
confirmation from Soul Society. The shinigami were
already up and heading towards the door. Toushiro was
still kneeling at Heero’s side and releasing his reiatsu at the same level and frequency as Heero’s. Duo and the other pilots were already outside and
had taken a defensive stance against various points around the building.
“Remember, they are after ‘Ro, if they get him it better
be because we are all dead got it?” Duo ordered through their headsets. The shinigami were impressed with how coordinated and in sync
the boys were. As soon as the Espada came within
sight they were knocked out of the air by a flying dragon. Hitting the ground
the two didn’t even have time to recover before they were set aflame by the
angry reptile. Inside, Rangiku was desperately trying
to get Toushiro’s attention to no avail.
“Captain. Captain.
Captain Hitsugaya.” Reaching out to shake the near
comatose captain she was knocked over by a massive blast of reiatsu.
Cursing she sat up and noticed the two sets of reiatsu
combine and merge with one another right before they began to build a barrier.
Running outside she looked to the other shinigami.
“I don’t think that he is waking up until Heero does. What is going on?”
“The boys are fighting and they have a dragon.” Ichigo replied calmly.
“WHAT?! What do you mean they
have a dragon?”
‘Please don’t yell like that onna
it hurts my head.’ The dragon chastised as it flew down and shielded the shinigami from a cero blast. Then it hit everyone that the
dragon had called Rangiku an
‘onna’.
“Wufei is that you?”
‘Who else would it be? Unless of course
you see me down there fighting with the rest of the team.’ He snapped.
‘By the way, if you are not busy perhaps you could instruct us as how to best
kill these things.’
“Swords Fei.
Shift back and use your sword. Inflict a fatal wound either by decapitation or
vertical halving.” Duo replied for the shinigami
managing to kill the weaker of the two Espada. The Shinigami were very impressed by the way that the boys were
operating cohesively and efficiently in fighting an enemy that, no normal
person could ever hope to defeat, they had never fought before. Nodding Wufei shifted to the amazement of the others and drew his
katana. What surprised the shinigami this time was
that his blade actually had reiatsu running through
it as if it were a real zanpakto. Dodging the attacks of the last Espada,
Wufei managed to cleanly sever its head before it
could revert to its released form. Sheathing his sword he turned and that was
when Ukitake noticed that the second Espada had been killed in five seconds flat with no injury
to the attacker.
“Why don’t we head inside and finish this conversation shall
we?” Wufei suggested and headed back into the store
making the shinigami question their strength.
*****Heero’s mind*****
‘Where am I? Did it work? Why can’t I move?’ Heero slowly opened his eyes as these thoughts raced
through him. Shifting his eyes he realized that he was on the side of a
mountain and that for some odd reason there were chains holding him there. Struggling the best he could with an unresponsive body he
forced himself to calm down and analyze the situation. As he calmed his
breathing he took another glance around and actually felt himself relax. The
view was very comforting and he would be lying if he didn’t admit that it had a
calming effect on his nerves. Taking a deep breath he exhaled slowly and then
smiled faintly to himself.
“I know that you are out there. I came here for you. I
think I may even know your name already.” He reasoned. Waiting seemed almost
like torture and just as he was going to call out again a giant dragon that
looked almost as if it were made from sapphires dropped to be at eye level with
him.
“You are not
afraid human. That is rare. Most would be frightened of meeting their Zanpakto even if only in their mindscape. Yet, you are
somewhat hesitant. Why is that?”
“One would be hesitant when speaking to a being more
powerful then one’s own self. Especially when one’s
self is restrained to the side of the mountain, wouldn’t you agree?” Heero countered almost effortlessly. It had seemed as if
J’s lessons on political debates was finally coming in
handy.
“You are bold and
yet you are not. I have never known of one who’s own
mind can calculate more than any set of one hundred strategists faster than
they can. Yet you are resentful of your own abilities, why is that?” Heero was shocked to hear the dragon speak of his greatest
secret. Yet he did not let it show.
“One will always resent that which makes them different
to the point of being inhuman among their peers. I have always wanted to be
just like all the other children and yet for some reason my ‘unique’ abilities
only seemed to grow and then J got his hands on me and I knew that I would never be
like them again. If I were not so special J would have looked over me and yet I
can’t bring myself to wish my life on another. It is because of this that I
resent myself.” Heero averted eyes contact
unintentionally. He didn’t just resent himself, he loathed himself and often
times wished for death.
“And yet when
offered the chance to end it all and go someplace that may accept you, you
struggle and cling to life. You can’t allow your life to end and that makes you
hate yourself even more. You call yourself a coward and you avoid the others
because of this. You think that getting close to the friends that you have made
will cause them you somehow ‘contract’ your strangeness and be rejected by
those around them. You keep your abilities a secret and attempt to put
everything off as a something that J did to you in hopes that they will not run
from you.” Heero’s head snapped back to attention
and he glared at the dragon before him before a tear fell from his eye. Despite
the fact that it was only one tear, the dragon caught it quickly and shook his
head. “They will not drive you away and
they are more accepting than the rest of those that you have encountered were.
They too have lived harsh lives full of rejection and will understand what it
is that you fear.”
“Is my fear that which has chained me into place?” Heero queried.
“No. What keeps
you restrained on the mountain side is something else. If you linger here you
will be comatose for the rest of your life and if you continue to head in the
direction that you had been travelling you would have been forced to enter the
afterlife. For now you are being suspended between life and death. That is what
is holding you. If you decide to leave it all behind you will die and if you
choose to live it while be a while before we can speak again. We Zanpakto are not strong enough to speak to the living. We
can only speak to those that are dead and those that are in between.”
“What if I don’t want you to go? What if I want you to
stay with me?” Heero dropped his mask and for once
allowed his true personality to shine through. The dragon, although knowing
what he was like underneath his mask, was still startled at the sheer amount of
emotion flowing through the normally ice cold eyes. It was then that the dragon
confirmed what he had speculated so long ago while lingering in the back of the
boy’s mind.
“Despite what you
tell others you truly are afraid to be left alone yet again. To be left behind
and watch as those you love are ripped from you be the constant and
irreversible flow of time and life. You can no longer bear the burden of the
blood that flows through your veins and yet you have barely lived a fraction of
your total life span. It typically takes hundreds of years for those like you
to reach your point and yet you have arrived at it in a mere 16 years.” The
dragon was actually impressed and yet mournful of his partner’s unique
disposition. One such as Heero had been once thought
to be lost in the ages as those ‘beings’ grew more complacent with their unique
status. Heero on the other hand was desperate to
retain contact with the being that understood him better than all the others.
He knew that this dragon, this zanpakto could
understand him better than even his own parents ever could. His mission stated
that he was to gain the power of the shinigami as
quickly as possible and join their ranks and infiltrate them, yet he no longer
felt as though he could complete the mission. The completion of the mission
meant that he would essentially be betraying this magnificent creature before
him. He could always return to life and yet if he did that then he would lose
his closest friend before truly getting to know him. He knew however that it
was the only way to remain faithful to the being before him and yet he could
not force his decision from his mouth as his heart was torn in two. Then he
realized that it was not just his heart as the mountain range around him began
to collapse. Panicked he called out to the dragon who seemed lost in thought.
“What is happening? Why is everything breaking apart?”
“Your mind is
cracking from the stress that you are under. Because you have been trained to
complete every mission regardless of the sacrifice your trained self wants to
complete the mission and yet your heart and subconscious do not wish to
continue on the self destructive path that you have been set upon. You do not
wish to die and yet you do not wish to fail. Either way someone gets hurt in
the process do they not?”
“I will not hurt
you I refuse! Is there any other way to stabilize my mind and complete both
objectives?” He questioned sincerely. However, the dragon had his doubts
concerning which objectives this human wanted to complete.
“Which objectives
would that be human?”
“Not betraying you and not being alone?” Heero said in a tiny voice. He had decided that the mission
could be damned and that he would remain loyal to this being no matter what.
The dragon was surprised however as he had expected a different answer from the
human. Smiling to himself he looked at the human once again.
“Your loyalty
astounds me human. There is a way. There is one near you that is almost
identical in reiatsu type, zanpakto
and suffering as you. If the two of you can merge you will be able to harness
my power while alive and be able to have comfort. However this process is
dangerous and could kill you both. What say you?”
“I will only
agree if he is willing.” Heero said firmly not
wanting to place another in danger because of him. Nodding the dragon turned.
“I will call out
to him now. If he is willing he will respond to the call. If he is not then
nothing will happen.” He said in finality.
“How will we know if he responds?”
“This place will
stop crumbling and will merge with his mindscape. Both me
and his Zanpakto will reside here and you will have
to work out mental barriers and boundaries in order to keep from prying into
private thoughts and conversations as we will be unable to do so. You have
passed the test human.”
“Test?”
Now Heero was confused.
““What test?” you
ask? I refuse to have a wielder that is unable to admit to himself
what it is that he truly wants and is willing to sacrifice me for his own
agenda.”
“So if I had not answered the way I had to your questions
you would not assist me. Right?”
“That is correct
human and you have passed. I will need to concentrate to call out to the young
dragon wielder now.” The dragon began to pulse with a brilliant light and
he could almost instantly feel the response of the second reiatsu.
Almost instantly in the space where a full mountain had collapsed the ground
began to even out and as if expanding to form a tundra
and then filled with snow. With the tundra came a vicious
snowstorm, but then it died down and Heero could feel
the chains around him dissolve. Landing on the ground he looked up and caught
sight of the most breathtaking person he had ever seen.

AN: This hopefully will
stay in the correct format. If I made any spelling errors please let me know. I
would love to know how to spell Zanpakto correctly.
Also, I am welcoming suggestions on a name for Heero,
Wufei, Quatre, Trowa and Duo’s Zanpakto. I will
give descriptions of each Zanpakto in the next
chapter which will be an author’s note. Should be up in the
next few weeks. Now that I have the time to update I may be able to get
in updates to all of my stories on a regular basis. But I may not as I have so
many ideas running around in my head for different stories I may lose track of
a few of them. Well Ja for
now!
