A/N: Just another short update before class tomorrow since the idea was killing to get out of my head.
It took nearly two weeks before everything was well on their way of being taken care of. She had gone over checklists with Captain Unohana, Captain Ukitake, Officer Akon, back to Captain Unohana and had spoke once or twice with the scouting team. From what she had heard of and read from the reports, this so-called building had been taken care of equipment-wise and had been correctly furnished throughout. Without seeing it for herself though, she wasn't sure how to feel on the matter; their definition of being 'furnished' was sure to be different from her own but she tried not to make a deal out of it. She tried to keep most of her words to herself to keep from getting on Captain Unohana's bad side again and it was proving to be a bit more difficult than originally processed. To keep herself from going crazy over it, she tried to spend as much time as she could with the others. Nanao seemed to be in a better mood these days which was reassuring; Hinamori was more on the downside of it- she blamed morning sickness for making her absolutely miserable and hating just about everything there was in existence; Matsumoto was a balance between the two and usually proved to be a bit more ongoing in their conversations. As far as she could tell, they seemed fairly well... settled given the situation; while they remarked some dread about the relocation idea, most of it was because of separating themselves from the Society- which she couldn't blame them for. Nanao remarked that she didn't want her plants to die but she knew that Captain Shunsui wouldn't remember to water them; and in the case that he did remember, it would probably be with some form of alcohol instead. Something that couldn't necessarily be disproven given her Captain's love of liquor. Matsumoto expressed more concern for whether or not the decor would match; she didn't trust the Twelfth Division to know a thing about interior design and was certain they chose the ugliest furniture to go with her room. While she tried to assure the woman that the place would look decent... even she had her doubts about it; again, she was just working off other Division member's opinion on it. She remembered sharing a story about when Officers Hanataro and Yasochika returned from their investigation and assured them that all the necessary equipment was available. While Captain Unohana seemed pleased with their reports, she slightly doubted their abilities to even know what the 'proper' equipment would be. They were men, what did they know about the birthing process? What did they know about what the female body had to go through, the preparation that was needed in order to pass a healthy baby? Now, while she didn't know the process all too personally herself, she still familiarized herself with all the tools and procedures; they preferred to look over the notes of open heart surgery and intestinal transfers. They probably stepped into the room, got grossed out and made a swear to just tell Captain Unohana that everything was all accounted for. Not that she really thought any of them would press their luck in doing so though. But at least the day was finally here and that feeling of dread that had been constantly pumping into her stomach was finally able to burst. In a good or bad way. She just wanted the matter over with, she wanted everyone to be there already, she wanted to be settled in so this 'experiment' could finally go on with no other interruptions. She just wanted things to start and end... then again, she wasn't the one pregnant here so they might have a different look on it. "Can we leave already?" Hinamori questioned as she pulled her jacket in around her smaller frame; despite everyone dogging on her about her fever that had been ongoing for a few days now, she swore she had been freezing the entire time. Even now, while everyone was commenting about the stuffy air and weather, she was practically shivering. "I just want to go back to bed and sleep off this headache." "I know, I know, we're just waiting for Captain Unohana and Captain Ukitake to return." Isane assured as she looked around at the fairly empty lounge room surrounding them. Most of the supplies and their luggage had been taken ahead of time and they were just waiting for the two Captains to finish up with their own business and return. She had strict orders from Captain Unohana to wait for their return so they could leave as a protective group. From what she knew and/or overheard, Officer Akon would be joining them later on in the evening after everyone was settled in; Captain Shunsui should be there already by the time they arrive, so he would join in on the whole... experiment as well. She noted that Nemu wasn't with them just yet but she was certain that she would eventually be here, unless she was choosing to come along with Akon later on- something of which she doubted heavily. The Espada wasn't present either but she was certain he was bound to show up sooner or later. "You should've taken care of that before we left." Matsumoto teased. "Shut up, Rangiku." "Really? You two are going to argue now?" Nanao remarked as she briefly glanced up from the book she had in hand. "Come on guys, can we not make this any more stressful than it already is?" Isane asked as she made sure to stand between the two women. "Look, if Captain Unohana and Captain Ukitake aren't here within the next... ten minutes, I'll go looking for them, alright?" it seemed to take a moment before the two of them eventually nodded while the Eighth Lieutenant only rolled her eyes and went back to her book. A silent sigh escaped her as she could already tell this was going to be a long day- not that they hadn't already hit enough stumbles as it was. "Lieutenant Isane, Captain Unohana told me I should be able to find the four of you here." She turned back at the voice and watched as a new figure made their way into the room. His white hair was slicked back into the usual style he preferred and served as a secondary trademark next to the small black mustache that rested above his upper lip; or perhaps his solid white eyes proved to be more of a revealing feature. Chiseled cheekbones rested fairly high and helped to form the angular structure of his strong face. The black uniform of all Shinigamis always seemed like it fit him best as he wore it with an air of pride and selflessness; the white jacket that hung from his shoulders seemed to mimic the ones of the Captains' but had been cut and sewn by his own hands. The fact that he was here of all places... that's what confused her. "Lieutenant Chojiro... why are you here?" she questioned as she turned back to greet him. "Captain Yamamoto asked if I would lend my assistance to this matter in his absence." he answered as he carefully closed the space between them; despite the stiff way he carried himself, he still stood just a few inches shorter than her. "I told him I would be honored to provide some support and do what I could to help. Captain Unohana gladly directed me to your location and said that you would be the best person to question." "Uh... oh... well, not really to be honest; I mean, we're just sitting here waiting for her and Captain Ukitake to show up." Isane started. "I can't say that I'm really the one to be giving orders but if Captain Unohana directed you to me then... well, I suppose you could help me keep an eye on these three." "It's not like we're going to run off and go crazy." Matsumoto remarked. "That's not what I was even implying." Isane defended. A brief chuckle escaped the first Lieutenant at the easy bickering; he was partly glad to see that nothing had at all changed between them, which was a beckon of relief. "I assure you, Lieutenant Matsumoto, I will only abide by what Lieutenant Isane has said just to make sure this expedition runs as smoothly as possible. We wouldn't want to risk one of you getting hurt because of faulty security; I would hate to see something like that occur and I give you my word that I'll ensure everything I can to avoid such a thing from occurring." "This kind of job is just right up your alley, isn't it, Chojiro?" Hinamori chuckled. "You could mark it as such." he nodded; taking close notes of the woman's pale complexion and sweated skin. "Are you alright? You appear feverish." "I'm fine; this is apparently 'normal' for someone in my state." she assured. "I won't object if you want to hold my hand though." "I'd be careful with that." Isane started; picking up on the shorter woman's mere tease. "The uh... the Espada tends to get a bit... defensive when someone unknown is around. You should've seen the way he treated Captain Ukitake just for being near Nemu, let alone making physical contact with her." "Oh dear." "Yeah, but that's Nemu." Matsumoto reminded. "Doesn't mean I really want to take that chance." Isane continued. "Do not worry for my well-being, Lieutenant Kotetsu, I'll be just fine." Chojiro assured before something in the distance called for his attention. He half-turned back towards the corridor he had just arrived from and listened to the faint echo of footsteps drawing closer. "Perhaps that is Captain Unohana and Captain Ukitake right now, in which case we can start this expedition soon enough." She nodded with the First Lieutenant and tried to run through her mental checklist once more to make sure everything had been covered before; to make sure everything Captain Unohana had asked was taken care of; to make sure her own list was finished beforehand. Not that she couldn't just come back and take care of it, it would just seem like a nuisance at that point having to go between two places constantly because of a few minor mistakes. Unless it was a major mistake, in which case it was necessary. Ugh, why couldn't she just hold a normal thought process and not give herself a headache? It was at that point something seemed to trigger in the back of her head. The footsteps were drawing closer and closer but... it was only one set, which meant it wasn't both Captain Unohana and Ukitake. Perhaps it was the Espada? No, he would've had Nemu with him for sure. Maybe Officer Akon? No, he had reported for certain that he would be dropping in much later... So who was it? Well, if Lieutenant Chojiro had dropped in unannounced to provide assistance, then perhaps there was someone else doing the same. Unless... they weren't here to provide assistance. It was like a slow moving infection of panic as the footsteps eventually emerged into a full figure who passed into the room without so much as a reduced sense of speed. His even gait was filled with pride and selfishness, almost completely polar opposite of how Lieutenant Chojiro had acted. Only this man was a figure not to be crossed or messed with. She had never wished for Captain Unohana's sudden appearance more than she did right at this very instance. "Captain Byakuya, I was not informed of your showing appearance." Chojiro started as he stepped forward; his arms slowly crossing themselves over his slender chest. "Then again, I suppose my own appearance was not readily predictable either; my appearance was just as surprising." Stepping back a step or two behind the First Lieutenant, she moved to place herself in front of the other three who seemed to share the same kind of uncertainty; there was no denying the way they pulled themselves together that they were bracing themselves for whatever the Sixth Captain wanted to bring to topic. "Do not mistaken my appearance as a sign of assistance to this... 'experiment.'" the Captain started; his own arms crossed over his broader chest as he paused just a few yards from them. "While both of your Captains are very well aware of how displeased some of us are about this whole matter, I can't seem to grasp their understanding on why exactly some of them choose to be actively participating in this... fictional hypothesis. To think they would actually call for some of their Division members to actively participate in this mess in the first place is horrendous, and then call for their assistance... that's even more degrading." Whenever Captain Unohana wanted to show up, that would be great. "I understand that there is a shared sense of uneasiness in this matter, Captain, but there are-" Chojiro replied; silencing when the Captain moved to cut him off. "If you claim to understand both sides of the matter then explain to me why you choose to be standing on that side. Why do you choose to join an experiment that would call to enhance the numbers of a species we exterminated years ago? A species we exterminated for a reason. Are you just looking for another outbreak, for another risk to this Society?" Seriously Captain Unohana, where are you? "What an asshole." Matsumoto muttered. "Don't piss him off." Hinamori whispered as she shoved her elbow into the woman's side. "He's mad enough as he is." "Well, he needs to get that stick out of his ass." She tried to get the two to quiet out a bit as Lieutenant Chojiro took another step or two forward to keep that sense of protection he had talked about before as truth. The last thing they needed was to be caught in a conversation-slash-confrontation with the Fifth Division Captain. His pure opposition to the whole matter had been known from the start and even Captain Unohana remarked about keeping their distance from him. And of course, when they were most vulnerable, he seemed to step forward. Didn't someone mention something like this might happen? Fuck, she wished she had listened but... well at least they had Lieutenant Chojiro with them. "The fact that you're worried about an outbreak happening in the first place says quite a bit about you Captain. Do you not think you'll be able to face another one?" Yet another voice that hadn't been with them before. She tried to peek around the First Lieutenant and watched as the Captain turned back just the same at the addition. Oh great... first Lieutenant Chojiro caught them off-guard, and then Captain Byakuya had to show up... and now him. "So you're the one behind this whole mess." Byakuya retorted. "Last time I checked, I wasn't the one walking in and deciding to give everyone a hard time." Szayel replied as he moved to slowly close the space between him and the Captain. "You know, I'm open to the idea of letting everyone have their own thoughts and their own state of mind but... it's a thin, deteriorating line between it being a right or being a given. After all, where's the appeal in debating with someone who shares your own thoughts and sentiments? But, like I mentioned, it's something that should be taken and treated delicately. Believe it or not, Kuchiki, not everyone wants to hear about your opinion." He watched as the black-haired man narrowed his eyes and caught how the corner of his lips were tucked downward into a stern frown; that small space between his eyes wrinkled when the tip of his eyebrows were turned down. "And why should I even consider about what you have to say?" "I'm not telling you to 'consider' my words, I just want you to lower your voice." he answered as the space eventually closed to a few feet or so. Normally he would've been more conscious of his words and willing to see how long it would take for the Captain to either snap or leave, but after hearing a few of his words from before... this was a far more encouraged route. "I don't want you to upset the women in the room; that would be unfortunate for you to do and that would put you on my bad side- not that I really think you would care." "You're right, I wouldn't care. And what exactly makes you think I won't try to kill you right now just to dispel this whole matter?" "If you want to kill me, then go for it." he remarked; catching the minor shift in the man's facial expression at the slight encouragement. "I'm sure you've been dying to recreate the warmth of Hollow blood on your blade for awhile now. I mean, it's been years since you killed Zommari, right? But, even despite that blood urge and the tingling feeling in your fingertips, you don't even go for your blade even though you have the clearest advantage to. Because if you did, you'd earn the infancy from the Twelfth Division- who I'm certain you don't even give a second glance to. But count the number of Divisions who are standing right behind you who choose to willingly be involved in this matter. There's four, possibly five with the new figure. Can you honestly risk being on the black list of five Divisions? Perhaps so, perhaps not, it depends on how much of a gambler you are, how many risks you enjoy taking. If you want to, then go ahead and embed your sword into my chest, my abdomen or any other severely vital area you see fit... I won't stop you." It felt like hours had passed on as she watched the ongoing confrontation take place just a few feet from her. Their voices had dropped drastically to make the conversation seem more personal as she struggled to pick up a few words here or there to no avail. Either way, the Sixth Division Captain was clearly not happy with the way the back of his neck tensed again and again while the pink-haired Espada showed little to no physical change. It was both intriguing and frightening all in one. The Captain was usually level-headed but when things riled him up he made sure what his stance on it was- unfortunately the Espada seemed to be the same way which did not sound like it would be a promising combination. "Oh, there you are Captain Byakuya, I was looking all over for you." The tense situation broke upon the thirteen words and even she turned at yet another addition. The sight of the female Captain just now entering the room was a sigh of release and she felt her whole body seemingly become less tense. "About time, Captain." Isane whispered to herself as she watched the woman step in. "It seems like someone else is calling for you, are you going to answer it?" Szayel questioned; watching as the Captain barely even looked to him. He slowly moved to step around the man and caught the corner of his eyes just before he moved out of sight. "Or are you going to risk her just the same?" He didn't wait around for the man's answer and chose to continue on to where he was originally going anyways; why did people always insist on wasting his time? Isane watched as the Espada gave up on the conversation and started to walk towards them once more; taking specific note of how he seemed to purposely bump shoulders with the First Lieutenant. "Tell me you know who you were just talking to." "I assure you, Isane, even if I didn't know who that man was, that wouldn't change any of my words." he replied as he passed her by just the same. He just wanted to deal with a more important matter right now, how difficult was it to do just that? Still, he was partly glad to see that the women were alright given the situation. Matsumoto frowned slightly at the seemingly anti-climatic ending to the whole matter- which wasn't a bad thing actually, she was glad it all ended quickly without bloodshed; Captain Byakuya had moved on to speak with Captain Unohana and Captain Ukitake while Lieutenant Chojiro and Isane stood close by. "You know he could've killed you given the chance." "Oh I know, he made it clear and I told him I'd take up on the offer if he wanted to go through with it." he answered as he moved to brush aside a few loose strands of her blonde hair; tucking them behind one ear. He leaned down lightly and touched his forehead against her own when the answer didn't seem convincing enough for her. "It doesn't matter; I'm not just going to stand aside and let someone share their opinion that no one asked for." "I don't think he really needed someone to ask." Hinamori remarked. "He's not a Captain to be messed with." His attention turned to the shorter woman close by and took note of her paled expression; he moved to lightly press the back of his hand against her cheek and felt the rush of heat that escaped from her flesh. "Well I think he'll be okay to have his feelings hurt once or twice, it's not like it's going to kill him. On a more important note, we need to find you a place to rest and see if we can't bring down this fever of yours. I don't want you walking around with this kind of temperature." "He has a... knack for details." Chojiro remarked as he watched the small group commerce amongst themselves. "You wouldn't believe it." Isane followed; resting her hands on her hips for a moment as she waited for everything to... calm down a bit more. Their plans seemed to be getting pushed further and further back but she had no problem with it as long as everything remained calm. "I try not to think too much on it though, with everything that's constantly going on, it's kind of frightening to think of how much he's managed to pick up on everyone." Ruffling through her silver locks, she watched as the First Lieutenant seemed fairly keen on keeping an eye on everyone... and yet there was a strange tension along his jawline that said otherwise. It was probably nothing more than nerves though; this whole situation was stressful enough as it is, they didn't need any more added complications to it. "Where's Nemu at?" Nanao questioned. "I thought she was going to be here with the rest of us." "You'll have to excuse Lady Kurotsuchi's absence; she's having a bit of a rough start to this morning and needed a few extra minutes to lie down." he started as he eventually made his way over to her, gently plucking the small novel from her hands. "She asked if I would go ahead and make sure everyone was doing alright while she tried to pull herself together. What exactly are you reading this time? More Eighteenth Century nonsense?"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
