Though I was home, I tossed and turned with the anticipation of the new day. It was a different world, one with a clear future and a path that was laid out for me once more. The world looked brighter and more evolved as I made way for my captains office only to be surprised with the absence of the one that my heart called out for. The room was dark filled with a musty smell, like no one had set foot in their for weeks maybe months. I reminisced as I walked around the room curiously looking for a sign as to why the room was in such a state. I blew off the dust that covered the files stacked upon my old desk; shocked to see that they were the same ones that I had left for my captains review the day that I had left. What was going on I thought to myself while continuing to dig through the stacks of paperwork that had gone untouched.
"Ah there you are Saya" said Lieutenant Kaien Shiba as he stood in the doorway, "Captain Ukitake is waiting for you in his living chambers" holding his hand out to show me the way.
Shaken by his sudden appearance I stood up at attention, "Yes Lieutenant" I said out of respect.
He laughed heartily at my response, "Saya, it’s me… you don't have to address me like that." shaking his head, "I realize it's been a while but nothing has changed"
My posture slacked and I found a smile creep across my face as I walked toward the door, "What happened here?" I stopped at his side, looking back into the once vibrant room.
"There has been some small changes that have had to happen since Captain Ukitakes health has become less predictable," proceeding down the hall towards the captains living chambers I stayed at his side shocked by the news, "Captain Unohana suggested that we move all operations to him so that he will be able to be a part of things on his bad days." he stopped in front of the Captains room, "So here we are"
Instantly I began to feel guilty for leaving my captain for all of that time. I hadn't been there for him when he needed me I thought to myself, a man that was like a father to me. It was no secret that he had a genetic disorder that left him weak as his lungs filled with fluid without warning. But it had never been so bad that it left him bed ridden. Watching me struggle as I thought about man once so powerful now frail, Shiba placed his hand on my shoulder, "Don't feel bad, you will do him an injustice by that," Kaien said tilting his head down toward me, "He is the same man that he has always been. He just has his good and bad days"
He opened the door pushing me in, only to be greeted with open arms by my captain, "Saya, welcome back!" Ukitake hollered out as he glided effortlessly across the floor.
His hug was soothing to me, like being reunited with an old friend as I hung onto every word that came out of his mouth. This was no way for a sick man to act I thought as he walked me around the room to introduce me to all of the newer members of the team continued to inform me of all that I had missed. The excitement suddenly caught up to him as we circled the room and he collapsed to the floor. Violently coughing, he covered his mouth with his hand. I crouched down, placing my hand at his back I felt his entire body shutter with each forceful release followed by a gasp for air.
"Captain!" I shouted as he looked back at me apologizing with his eyes.
He grabbed my arm to reassure and calm my fears that plagued my face as I look onto him. Kaien now at his other side pulled Ukitakes arm around his neck giving him the support to stand back up. Looking to help I too did the same, wrapping my arm around his waist, we guided him to his room through a door at the back of the office. Finally his cough seemed to settle as we laid him down to his bed; blood staining his lips and hand. I walked to the bathroom to grab and wet a towel then returned to his side as Kaien covered him with a large blanket.
"I'm sorry that you have to see me like this!" he whispered with a hoarse voice, "I didn't mean to scare you"
I took his hand, wiping the blood from it, "I'm just surprised that’s all," shaking my head I smirked, "You really let yourself go to hell without me here didn't you?" reaching to wipe the blood from his mouth and chin.
He lightly laughed, spurring on another round of this time soft coughs as he patted the top of my hand. "I know that you have plenty to catch up with so go on and we will continue our conversation tomorrow" He smiled mischievously, "When I can have your full attention!"
Kisuke, my eyes widened as I thought to myself, I had promised him that I would meet him at noon. My captains hand squeezed mine, "There is nothing that you can do for me right now. I just need to rest, so go." he instructed me once more.
Not to wanting to seem too excited, I stood up to bow at my captain then retreated out the door. Running through the maze of halls finally to be released into a blaze of light that lefty my eyes spotty and me squinting. I continued blinking and rubbing at my eyes in an attempt to regain my sight to its normal state just in time to run into something. My body flew back leaving me to look back upon the barrier only to see Lieutenant Aizen looking back down onto me.
"Are you alright?" asked Sosuke asked as he reached his hand out for me.
"Yes, I'm very sorry!" taking his hand I stood up, "I should have been more careful" I said softly in embarrassment as his hand still held mine.
"You must have been in quite a hurry" he smirked with a devilish delight that radiated from his eyes, "Where are you off to in such a hurry?" leaning into me he questioned once more.
My thoughts stumbled in my mind as I looked for any reason but to see Kiuske; resulting in a long awkward silence as I was not ready for the question. As he awaited my answer, his face seemed to change from a patient upstanding man to a smug callus man that only looked to bring pain onto that which fell beneath him. A characteristic that I had seen shift in Aizen through quick interactions in the past. It was almost as if he had two different personalities; one of which came out only in times of private intolerant interactions.
"Well, you must have been making your way to somewhere," his hand slid up my arm as he leaned into my ear, "To see a captain perhaps?" he forcefully whispered his breath sending chills down my spine.
"Ah there you are Aizen!" Yelled out Captain Shinji Hirako as he walked up to our meeting, "I was wondering where you had disappeared to!" he snapped at him as he looked at me.
I bowed, "Arigato Tiacho!" I said with a smile, "Arigato Lieutenant" he said back with a nod, grabbing Aizen by his sleeve he continued on, "Come now, we are going to be late for the meeting with Ukitake!"
Quickly I took my leave and made way thru the large wooden doors of the Division 12 barracks. Though much had changed in the time that I had been gone, I swiftly made my way around the tall white buildings and to the old office of my mentor Captain Hikifune. Every room that I passed seemed cold and sterile; Leave it to Kisuke I thought to myself as I crept closer to the room. I opened the door surprised to see that no one was there; only accompanied by the sound of my own footsteps. His spiritual pressure was nowhere to be found as I walked to the entrance to his living quarters at the back of his lab. Sliding open the door I felt bombarded with a rush of his presence that continued to grow as I closed in on the small bathroom in the corner. The sound of running water and a low humming of a tune beckoned for me to follow. Upon entry, I gasped slightly to see a stark naked Kisuke lounging back as he enjoyed the relaxation of the bath. My eyes became enchanted with his strength as I looked over each muscle that cut into his luscious body as it glistened under the reflection of the water. Like a teenager, I felt the blush come over my pale face and my body ache at the site before me.
"Are you just going to stand there," His eyes opened with a brilliant smirk, "Our are you going to join me?" he said playfully.
I giggled as I walked to sit on the side of the bath, "Just admiring something that I so missed" I said back, leaning down to softly kiss his lips.
His hand, dripping wet, began to untie my sash, desperate to get it off he tugged at my shirt enough to get it open. Like magic his hands worked to rid me of most of my clothing all the while keeping me under the gentle spell of a kiss that I had taken for granted during our time apart. I lost my balance upon the last rough tug that released me from the sash that wrapped my waist tight; finding myself now in his lap, soaking wet as some of the water overflowed over the edge and onto floor. A laughter danced from both of our mouths as we took enjoyment with from our teenage-like behavior.
His busy hands continued to pull off my soaked shirt, tossing it to the floor, "Now this is what I call romance" he chuckled out while guiding my hips so that I lay with my back to his chest , cradled by his strong thighs and tender arms.
Together we snuggled in to each other silently as the laughs now subsided. I took in the feelings that came with every touch of his wet fingers that seemed to glide effortlessly across my skin. My body ached with each whimsical breath that he took while tucked into the crook of my neck.
Looking back onto him with a light smile, "It almost seems like a dream, doesn’t it?" I asked as his arms wrapped around me tightly, "I'm afraid that I will wake up and it will all be gone" I continued with a slight fear in my voice.
My hands now overlapped his while he took in a large breath and released it slowly into world as he wrestled in his mind for the right words. I could feel his chest beating like a drum as his fingers found mine and began to tangle themselves, "It's been long hard road but from now on it's you and me… together" his lips pressed to my neck as he continued, "This is our happily ever after. As skewed as it may be" he humbly laughed, "I will protect you and love you as long as you let me"
I the stillness of the steam engulfed room as I let my body sink into his, no longer aware of our bare skin to each other’s but our souls collapsed into one as those momentous words parted his lips and found their way into my head.
"Our happily ever after?" I playfully whispered, "When did you become so sentimental Kisuke?" I looked back onto him.
His eyes wide and face holding onto a silly look of accusation, "Only for you my dear, only for you!" pecking at my cheek furiously with his lips for added effect.
I laughed heartily as I snuggled back into him once more letting our bodies soak as one in the warm water as if they it was washing away the pains of our past and we would emerge onto a new life as we departed the bath. For what seemed like forever, we laid contoured in the arms of one another with only a whisper of "I love you" parting our lips form time to time; gaining the robust smile of the other. A prize that was well worth the effort and not taken lightly.
As the night continued on we found ours naked bodies constantly begging for one another's bound by the soft cotton sheets that wrapped us up tight. Still in the mindset that our dream had come to life, his hands searched the curves of my body; reminding him of our past and the future of the nights ahead. Every gentle kiss had my toes curling and me giggling in utter happiness as we lost and found on another in the dim light of the room. Although few words were said amidst the passionate expressions of everything coming to a final head, we understood every move, touch, kiss and breath that was released in those hours. There was no longer any doubt of our future, no what if's, no what could have been would pass our mind from that moment on.
Kisukes POV:
My eyes held steady to the clock as I attempted to get in as much work as possible all the while holding back the excitement that I held in anticipation of my dear Saya. After a long night of experiments, I sat at my desk pushing myself to race through the little bit of paperwork left over so that it would be ready for the currier that would come from the Head Captains division to gather it. Hiyroi skeptically peered at me from the other side of the room as she leaned onto the lab table tapping her foot at a rather rapid pace. I glanced up at her from time to time but refused to say a word as it would only bring her joy in that she was able to get under my skin. I stunning tactic that she had perfected to a science within our short time as partners. This was a satisfaction that I would just not give this day as I quickly bound the last set of documents and leaned back onto the stiffness of the chair that held me. While placing my hands behind my head I released a large dramatic sigh out on to the room. Thinking of how I wanted to greet Saya and all the possibilities that came with that interaction I stared up at the ceiling.
Now accompanied by the sound of her fingers tapping she gave in, "OK" she yelled out slamming her hands down onto the thick table, "Why do you have that goofy grin on your face?" her eyes raged like fire, "You know that creeps me out!"
I chuckled heartily in my victory, leaving my defenses down as usual in the confines of my office. Quickly I was corrected in my reaction as Hyiori utilized her flash step technique to move behind me slapping the back of my head. Instantly I rose to my feet as I rubbed the spot pained by what her forceful little hand had dealt me.
"Want is the matter with you!" I snapped as I turned to look down at her, "Can't I celebrate just one victory every once in a while?" I whined out forcefully, gritting my teeth.
Her face brightened like a light bulb in the epiphany that came to her mind, "You were thinking dirty thoughts about her weren't you?" she aqusied me freely behind a blushed face, "You are such a dirty old man!" she hollered at me now on her tip toes with her finger in my chest.
"Old man!" I yelled back more angry about that comment than the ladder as I flailed my arms.
"Really? That is what you got out of my comment!" her head nodded uncontrollably, "Do that on your alone time" resting back onto her heals she dramatically shivered, "Not with me in the room!"
I opened my mouth in an attempt to justify and redirect the comment which was lost only to be interrupted by a firm knock at my door.
"Come in" We both ordered out, neither of us wanting to breaking from the frustrated glare and pressed lips of the other.
"Who is the captain here?" I snapped at her as the door opened slowly exposing the currier from the Head Captains office. I broke from the fight that was mine to lose, "Right on time" I said as I forced a smile while grabbing for the bound documents that I had just finished not but ten minutes before. Looking back on Hiyori her face blushed slightly as she looked upon the young shinigami that still stood in my doorway leaving me with a brilliant idea that would not only render me to some peace and quite but get even for her insubordenance.
With a smirk I thrust the heavy stack of paperwork into the arms of the expecting Hiyori, "Here you go lieutenant" I said with conviction and a hint of sarcasm, "Why don't you help this nice…" she leaned back against my hand as I pressed her forward toward the young man, "shinigami" finally I made one more good shove that drove her into the chest of the now blushing boy, "with all of this paperwork" I rose my eyebrows with a smirk as I stood tall in final victory.
"Idiot!" she mumbled out as she nervously fumbled then handed the young man some on the documents. Without one more word she proceeded at his side, baring a slight smile, out of the door. Turning to shut the door behind her I watched trail of obsinities silently gestured from her mouth ending our interaction with a firm sticking out of her tongue as the door slammed.
I felt elated in that tinny victory and I welcomed the calm that now absorbed the room as my one constant point of stress exited and I was left to look forward to the first true day to the rest of my life. Shaking my head as if to cleanse off the day I retired to my bathroom to draw a bath and await the arrival of my love. A familiar tune from my past effortlessly hummed from my lips as I got undressed and sank into the gentle warmth of the water. Closing my eyes, I quickly was brought back to a night so long ago as I realized the significance of the song that poured from my heart. I shallowly chuckled aloud in the confides of the small space, It was the song that played as I confronted Saya on her date with Koga. The sweet sadness and desperate hope that fell from the crimson lips of the curvy woman that graced the stage that night. Within minutes I felt my heart and my body ache for Saya with the continuation of that divine melody that dripped from my lips as if it was a sirens call beckoning her to me.
