Chapter 20 - Know Your Place
After his little fight with the Shinigami in the bathroom, Grimmjow left the room and wandered aimlessly through Las Noches. Desperate to do anything to distract his mind, he was even hoping some fools would get into a fight with him so that he could blast them all to Hell. No matter how he looked at it, Aizen was torturing him on purpose. It wasn't right, the Shinigami was his, so why couldn't Aizen mind his own business? Everyone knew that it wasn't nice to play with someone else's prey, and the Shinigami was his, thus Aizen had no right to ban him from doing whatever he wanted. That aside, he was absolutely pissed off at the Shinigami. For once he wanted to help him after what happened with Yammy and the idiot just went ahead and fucked it all up. If those were his thanks then he refused to ever do something like that again. It wasn't in his nature to be kind anyway, so it was better to just act like his usual cruel self. As he was pondering what to do next, he sensed two reiatsu coming his way. He grinned, whether they were looking for a fight or not, Grimmjow didn't care, he just wanted to kick some ass. Finally, he stopped and waited. To his disappointment however, those two were not looking for a fight and were instead mere messengers. Grimmjow didn't really know their names but he remembered seeing them around. They were some stupid females that always seemed to hover around Aizen, weaklings who wouldn't even survive a small Cero; in fact, Grimmjow was sure he could kill them with a single punch.
"Whad'ya want you stupid bitches?" Grimmjow growled at them, hoping it would scare them enough into leaving him alone. He suspected what they wanted, but he didn't really care. He wasn't in the mood for Aizen's crap at that particular moment in time. Loly, the brunette one, with two pony-tails on either side of her head, scoffed and crossed her arms in annoyance, then looked Grimmjow defiantly in the eyes. "Aizen-sama requests your presence in the meeting room, so you'd better not make him wait." "Right now," the blonde one added. "Yeah whatever, I'll be there," Grimmjow sighed in annoyance and started walking away. He knew there was a meeting that day but he was hoping he could sneak out of Las Noches, and then later on feign ignorance, saying that he forgot about it, that he was distracted while fighting, or something along those lines, but if Aizen sent someone for him then it was obvious he expected him to be there. An amused chuckle erupted from Loly's lips, making Grimmjow even more pissed off than he already was. "I don't think you've heard Menoly right." She let her arms drop and walked in front of Grimmjow who in the meantime stopped once again. "In that case, I'll repeat again so that even you can understand. Aizen-sama said he expects you in the meeting room right now, as in right at this moment, so better hurry up and go, unless you want to make Aizen-sama wait for you." For a fraction of a second Grimmjow imagined crushing her skull in his hand but he quickly dismissed the thought as he was not in the mood to deal with the possible complications that would arise from killing Aizen's messenger. He further clenched his fists into his pockets, barely restraining his anger at knowing that he would once again have to see the face of the man he so hated, then, after a few seconds of trying his hardest to calm down, if only a little, he turned around and headed for the meeting room, completely ignoring Loly and Menoly. In the meantime Aizen was slowly tapping his fingers on the stone table, while resting his head on his other hand, patiently waiting for Grimmjow to arrive. He was sure that Grimmjow wasn't going to make him wait, at least not this time, especially after he went through the trouble of summoning him there. Not even a minute later Grimmjow appeared, hands in his pockets and scowling as usual. Aizen smiled, Grimmjow being the only Espada who dared challenge his authority so often. Not in the open of course, he knew that Grimmjow wasn't foolish enough to think he could fight him and win, but through small unimportant things, such as skipping a meeting or forgetting to address him respectfully, but above all that was the hate filled look he wore each time he looked at him. "Did you want something from me... Aizen-sama?" Grimmjow asked, breaking the silence and sat on the chair on Aizen's right before he was even invited to sit down. Aizen's eye almost twitched at his behavior and Grimmjow mentally laughed. "Yes, I see you got my message." "So what is it?" almost growled the 6th Espada. At that moment in time, more than ever, he was definitely not in the mood for Aizen's crap. He wanted the man to say what he summoned him for and get it over with so he could go back to what he was doing, whatever that was. It didn't matter as long as he didn't have to watch the former's Shinigami disgusting face. Aizen couldn't help but notice how badly the Espada wanted to get away from him. It was almost as if Grimmjow was tempting him into keeping him there as long as possible. He stopped tapping on the table and raised his head, this time looking the other directly into his eyes. "You seem impatient Grimmjow. Have I interrupted something of great importance?" The Espada was taken aback for a second, not expecting Aizen to pose such a question. He knew Aizen didn't care whether he interrupted something important or not, so why did he even ask such a thing? It was strange, something was strange, and why would he be summoned alone in there before the official start of the meeting? He quickly recovered from his stupor, trying to find the right words. "No, Aizen-sama, I'm just curious why you wanted to see me." "I see. " This time Aizen got up and started pacing through the meeting room, knowing that his behavior would further increase Grimmjow's anxiety. It really was amusing teasing his subordinates once in a while, just as Gin had said to him once. Aizen wasn't one to be surprised often, in fact, he always planned everything so carefully that when Grimmjow did something that wasn't part of his plans, well, to put it in a few simple words, he was completely baffled, shocked even, so surprised that for more than a day he couldn't even decide what steps to take that would benefit him the most. Rape was not something he ever considered, it never crossed his mind and he was angry at himself for not thinking of taking such a thing into consideration. Hollows, or better said, Arrancars were the closest a Hollow could ever become to a human or a Shinigami, and of course it was only natural they'd get back some of the urges they had before turning into Hollows. In the end he decided to bring the human to Hueco Mundo, since it didn't really matter who he brought as long as he had a hostage. It was a good opportunity to observe him up close and see if he'd manage to get past what had happened to him and get stronger, or break and fall to darkness and despair. Back to the matter at hand, which involved both the human and Grimmjow. "I want you to bring Kurosaki Ichigo at the meeting today, I believe it is time our guest is introduced to everyone here, officially that is. I'm sure most of them already know he is here but they haven't had a chance to actually see him yet. Kurosaki Ichigo is after all the human who acquired Shinigami powers and who managed to turn Soul Society upside down. A quite interesting specimen, don't you agree?" said Aizen, his hand resting on the Espada's shoulder. Grimmjow almost flinched when that hand touched him but he managed to stop himself just in time. Him flinching at Aizen's touch was like admitting how much weaker he thought he was. As for what Aizen said, Grimmjow was beyond pissed, he could almost see red. The last thing he needed was for the others Espada to see his prey. He knew better than everyone else how alluring and tempting the Shinigami was, and when it came right down to it, he wasn't sure he'd be able to keep what was his if one of the higher ranked Espada decided to claim the Shinigami as his own. Perhaps if he came up with an excuse... Grimmjow was quiet for a minute, thinking, and to his relief, Aizen didn't rush him into answering. Somehow it felt like Aizen was playing with him, in fact, he was almost sure the former Shingami was doing just that. "I don't think that's such a good idea, he's been hurt not too long ago and I'm not sure he can even walk on his own," he finally said and got up, leaving Aizen's hand to hang in the air, but as soon as his eyes met brown ones, he froze on the spot. He had never seen Aizen so angry, it was as if he could feel the anger, no, not as if, he could actually feel his anger, the other's heavy reiatsu quickly lashing at him from all sides. In only a matter of seconds the pressure forced him on his knees, panting. "Tell me this Grimmjow," said Aizen, as if he was being his usual calm self, "if a master allows his pet to have a slave of his own, does that make the pet equal to its master?" He walked in front of Grimmjow and looked down at him, amused at how the Espada was desperately trying to get up, to not be on his knees in front of him for even a second longer. He couldn't help but hear Grimmjow's growl as he finished his question, the Espada obviously displeased at being compared to a pet, but he was only speaking the truth, as Arrancars were nothing more than pets and slaves to him. How could such creatures ever hope to be treated as equals? They should be grateful he even treated him the way he did, instead of openly treating them as slaves. He further increased the pressure of his reiatsu as punishment for Grimmjow's growl, and soon enough the Espada coughed blood, dirtying the white spotless floor, a few drops almost touching Aizen's shoes. It surprised him, since he didn't think his reiatsu was being that hard on the 6th body. "Answer me Grimmjow," Aizen demanded, having no intention of lowering his reiatsu until he got the answer he wanted to hear from the Espada at his feet. Grimmjow didn't think he had ever felt more humiliated in his existence than he was at that moment. Now, more than ever, he felt completely powerless, merely a toy in Aizen's grasp. Did he want to live even if he was nothing more than a slave or a pet? He did, and for that reason alone he finally answered through clenched teeth the question Aizen had asked him. "No, Aizen-sama," and with that the pressure finally lifted and he was able to stand up on shaky legs, his body still feeling the after-effects. "Then go get Kurosaki Ichigo ready, I expect the both of you here when the meeting starts." Aizen said and sat back on his chair. Grimmjow was tempted to spit the man in the face but he knew better. He simply turned around and stormed out of the room even if he felt weak and drained of energy. He would've Sonido-ed but he still felt somewhat dizzy so he had to walk all the way back to his room which made him even more angry than he already was. By the time he arrived he wanted nothing more than to take his anger out on someone, and the Shinigami just seemed to be the unfortunate victim. As soon as he opened the door he notice he wasn't in his room, so he concluded he was still in the bathroom. He pushed the door so hard it almost flew out of its hinges and the human whimpered pitifully on the now cold floor, further curling himself into a ball. He stomped inside and painfully grabbed Ichigo by his orange locks, making him scream in pain. He didn't care though, so he yanked hard until the Shinigami was on his knees in front of him. "Listen to me bitch, you're going to stop this behavior right now and go get dressed, Aizen wants you at the meeting. You have about half an hour to get ready, so better do it before I get angry and break every fucking bone in your body! Got it?" Ichigo's throat felt dry and his body heavy, but even so he managed to whisper a choked yes. He shivered at the thought of meeting Aizen though, at least with Grimmjow he knew what to expect, but with Aizen he couldn't even begin to guess what the man wanted. "Good!" said Grimmjow and dragged him out of the bathroom, Ichigo being forced to push himself past his limit and move unless he wanted to lose his hair. Once outside he let go and sat on his bad, intently observing what the Shinigami was doing. He was so angry that he wanted to beat up the Shinigami so badly until he'd see blood, but he couldn't if he wanted him to be able to even attend that meeting. Well, he didn't actually want that, it was Aizen who did. Ichigo could barely stand up and walk, let alone dress himself. Leaving that aside, his clothes were in the bathroom, ripped off and covered in blood. He almost whimpered, panic quickly taking over him as he realized that even saying a word about it to Grimmjow would make him even more violent than he already was. Luckily, Grimmjow was not so far gone as to not realize what was wrong once he saw the Shinigami's panicked look. He cursed, got up and left the room in search for some clothes. He didn't have to search for too long because he ran into Ulquiorra who passed him a set of clothes saying they were from Aizen for Ichigo. Grimmjow's face further twisted in anger, but he didn't really have time to get angry over some clothes just because they were from Aizen. He also wasn't in the mood to talk to Ulquiorra, so he grabbed the clothes from the 4th hands, turned around and went back to his room where he tossed the clothes at the startled Shinigami. He watched as he struggled to get dressed and it pissed him off that he wasn't doing it faster. He didn't exactly want to be late, especially not after what happened. He finally got up when he could take it anymore, grabbed the Shinigami, then dragged him to the bed. "Stop with the damn struggling! You're pissing me off! You're not a damn woman to cry over every little thing I do to you so man the fuck up!" yelled Grimmjow in anger when Ichigo tried to escape from his grasp. Ichigo stilled in his grasp ashamed of what Grimmjow had just told him. It was true, he was pathetic, he was not acting like a man, but then again, it wasn't his fault, he was simply disgusted by the Espada's touch and he truly feared him. Grimmjow had literally managed to beat fear into his body, and no matter how hard he tried he couldn't stop the way his body reacted each time he was touched. Satisfied that the damn bitch finally stopped struggling, Grimmjow started dressing him as best as he could. The clothes were nothing special, just the usual white clothes everyone wore around there. At least it covered the Shinigami's body quite well and that was good, because he didn't want the others to get a free show of his property. Once he was done he pulled him up by the arm and left the room, mostly having to drag the Shinigami since he couldn't walk that well by himself. "What does Aizen want from me?" Ichigo couldn't stop but voice his question, worry gripping at his heart. "Hell if I know," growled Grimmjow and Ichigo flinched at the sound. He really didn't know what the man wanted from his pet. The excuse of wanting everyone to meet the human who turned Soul Society upside down was exactly that, just an excuse, at least of that he was sure. The more he walked towards the meeting room the more the Espada couldn't help but notice the Shinigami was staring at him. "What's so interesting that you can't take your eyes off me?" asked Grimmjow. Usually the other wouldn't even dare raise his head to look at him. "Blood," whispered Ichigo so low that Grimmjow barely heard him. "What?" asked Grimmjow confused. "There's blood on your mouth," said Ichigo and finally turned his head away. Grimmjow mentally cursed, he forgot that Aizen's reiatsu injured him so much. He kept walking until he saw a bathroom and dragged the Shinigami inside so he could wash his mouth. It really looked bad if he walked around showing vulnerability since the other Espadas always looked for an opportunity to take out those higher in rank. Ichigo leaned on the wall, feeling way too tired to be walking around such long halls. He couldn't help but wonder what had happened to Grimmjow though. Even though his reiatsu was sealed and he couldn't feel anything when it came to that in general, he could still sense a strong reiatsu flaring up just before Grimmjow got back. From the looks of it, Grimmjow had gotten into an argument with someone, but he couldn't tell who, the collar not allowing him to distinguish reiatsu to the point where he could identify someone. He slowly raised his injured right hand and slipped a finger inside it, slowly tugging at it, as if hoping it would break. He still couldn't believe Grimmjow never took him once since he was brought to Hueco Mundo and it made him wonder why. Maybe he was letting him heal a bit before injuring him all over again. It was the only explanation he could think of. Perhaps he was really listening to the advice the small Arrancar nurse gave him. Whatever the reason was, he could only hope Grimmjow would stay away from him for as long as possible. Once he saw the Espada finished washing his face, he pushed himself off the wall and walked in the direction of the door. For once he wanted to feel like he could do something by himself, even if that something was just walking. To his frustration though, he lacked the strength to properly walk by himself and mostly staggered out of the bathroom. Grimmjow followed him, carefully observing what the Shinigami was doing. To his surprise, he was somewhat satisfied he tried to walk by himself, seeing back some of the defiance and strength he enjoyed breaking, but there was no time to waste, they had to hurry. "You don't need to push yourself like this when you can't even walk by yourself, here, grab my arm," he said and stopped right besides him, waiting for the Shinigami to use him for support. Ichigo looked at him in disgust for a moment, then turned his head away. "I can walk by myself just fine." Ignoring the Espada he continued walking, even faster this time, wanting to prove that he was not so weak and desperate to use his arch enemy for support. "Ceh, suit yourself," said Grimmjow like he didn't care, but in truth he felt somewhat hurt for being rejected like that, and that pissed him off to no end because he wasn't supposed to give a damn in the first place. Yet why did he? Soon enough they arrived there and even though they weren't late, Grimmjow knew everyone was already inside. The Shinigami stopped, not daring to enter first. Grimmjow knew he must've realized that it was not proper for a pet to enter before its master. It seemed the human wasn't as stupid as he thought he was. He took a deep breath and opened the door, worried at what might happen and dreading that he had to see Aizen's face so soon after his humiliation, to see the face of the man who showed him his place. Grimmjow sighed, it was going to be a very long meeting.TBC
