Rukia slumped down near the pond surrounding her captains Ugendo Quarters, and pulled the man’s Haori close to her in a fashion that made it clear she was trying to hide…if only on a subconscious level.
“Oh Rukia…” started the man who had brought her there in the first place, “You seem to be in a bit of trouble these days, Hmm?” he added as he sat down beside her, his normal warm smile fixed to his face even though the tone of his voice let on how troubled about it all he was. “Ca…” Rukai frowned and turned to the man, a pleading look on her face, “Can we just talk…as friends Jushiro?” The Captain’s smile grew warm, “Always Rukia.” The girl suddenly felt a bit better, his smile had that affect regardless of the situation. She turned back to the pond, the stillness of it calming her more…which was probably the intent he had when he brought her here instead of inside. “I…I don’t know what to do…” she said after what seemed like a very long pause, but was only a few minutes. She turned to the man, “I don’t know what to do.” Her expression was pleading, lost in every way. The Captain turned to the pond himself, his own expression growing calm as silence filled the air once again. He took his time, though looking at him it would be impossible to tell that he was thinking about anything at all. “Rukia?” he asked suddenly. She turned to him and set her gaze upon him again, every fiber of her being wished that his words would somehow fix everything. Jushiro smiled again and lightly placed his hand on her head, “You are a very strange young woman Rukia.” He chuckled lightly, “And you always seem to attract even stranger friends…” He removed his hand and shrugged, “But anyone here would be wrong in saying your friends haven’t helped.” Rukia smiled halfheartedly and slightly lowered her gaze, “But…Nii-Sama…hates him…” The Captain chuckled, “I seem to remember him hating another of your friends once as well.” He dropped his gaze on her questioningly. Rukia smiled and nodded, his words rang true…but her current predicament was also different in many ways. “Do you love him?” Asked the man casually. Her Captains question caught her completely unaware and in turn gave her no opportunity to stifle the intense blush that grew on her cheeks, “Well…I…ehe…” she stammered off before turning away from the man. Jushiro laughed heartily, “Then you have your answer Rukia.” She turned to him suddenly, for some reason she had never expected such open mindedness…even from him. “You mean…” “Indeed I do…” Replied the man calmly. “So you don’t….” She asked in turn. “Why would I? Love is love, it doesn’t matter who it is for.” He replied matter of factly. Rukia smiled and after a moment a joyous tear rolled down her cheek. “Oh, what’s wrong Rukia? What did I say?” asked the Captain grasping her shoulders tenderly; afraid he had done something wrong. Rukia shook her head and abruptly wrapped her arms around the man, embracing him gently, “Thank you Jushiro…thank you.” No one had ever really told her it was okay for her to love him, and just hearing it seemed to lift a great burden from her shoulders. The man let out a relieved sigh and hugged the girl back happily, “Of course, I am always here to help when you need it.” ~~~ “You can really put them back Grimmjow-San.” Mused Shunsui, a small smirk on his face as usual. “You may be drunk to fast if you keep at it.” He added as he took a sip from his own glass. Grimmjow halted his assault on the bar they had ended up in, lightly looking at the clear liquid in his cup, “I normally drink with Rangiku.” He said plainly, his eyes shifting to the corner of their sockets to gage the man’s reaction without actually turning his head. “Ah.” Replied the Captain with a slightly wider smirk then before, “That would explain your tolerance…” The two men sat at the bar, which had rather conveniently emptied upon them entering. Grimmjow was patched up for the most part, a few bandages around the more notable of his injuries and a few small scars that would likely be gone within a few days all that remained after the battle. They drank quietly, little conversation had cropped up the entire time they had been together…but it was hardly awkward. If anyone besides the bartender had been there it would be easy to see that they were both content, though for different reasons. “Kuchiki seems to like you.” Started Shunsui after a particularly long silence spanning several refills each. Grimmjow only nodded lightly and took another drink. “Byakuya-San…not so much.” Added the Captain. The two men fell silent and then after a moment began chuckling lightly. “He hates my guts.” Added Grimmjow, which in turn made the two laugh a little harder. Slowly the laughter began dying down, mostly because the two took sips which slowed their reaction to the joke as they swallowed. “You know I don’t think I ever introduced myself Grimmjow, and I apologize. I’m…” “Kyoraku Shunsui.” Grimmjow said plainly, a small grin sliding between his lips before he took another drink. “Oho, my reputation proceeds me.” Mused the eighth division Captain, a small smile slipping onto his face. “I thought I might need to know…” The former Espada turned to the man and grinned more notably. “In case we ever fought.” Shunsui chuckled and made a shooing motion toward the man, “I’m not much of a fighter Grimmjow-San.” The two men fell silent. Grimmjow knew he was more then an average Captain and Shunsui knew as well…though he simply preferred drinking to fighting. “So…” Began the Captain wistfully, “You aren’t going to give her up are ya?” He took a small sip and kept his eyes toward the wall of liquor. “Nah, she’s grown on me.” Replied the Arrancar plainly. “Hm.” Sighed the man lazily, “Troublemaker.” Grimmjow chuckled and took another drink, he was definitely that. He paused and frowned, “What else can I do?” Shunsui smiled and shrugged, “Nothing.” Stopping just before taking another sip he turned slightly, "Though I will miss the quiet.." Grimmjow smiled back and the two went back to drinking happily. Their silent enjoyment went on for a short while, though as with all things…it eventually came to an end as the first vestiges of night began creeping into the sky outside. “Captain!” The woman’s voice was surprisingly powerful for how normal it was in volume. “Wasting the day drinking again?!” she asked clearly annoyed. “Ah, Nanao-Chan!” greeted the Captain warmly, “I wondered when you would come and visit!” The man grinned deviously, “A pretty girl like you shouldn’t be alone in a bar…Come sit in my lap my little Nanao…” The girl’s movement was quick and the hand fan she revealed from one of her sleeves struck the man on the back of the head soundly, “You are drunk aren’t you Captain…” she asked clearly un-amused. “Oh Nanao-Chan, you are such a party pooper.” He turned to her and smiled lightly, “We were just having a drink and talking about girls.” “It’s time to go back to headquarters Captain…” she began restraining her frustration, a light twitch in one of her eyes evident, “You are behind on your duties, and I intend on seeing you do them!” She abruptly took hold of the back of her Captains collar and drug him out of his chair and across the room toward the door. Grimmjow watched with a small entertained grin between his lips. Shunsui did nothing to stop the woman, instead he simply sighed and waved lazily at the Arrancar, “We will have to have another drink sometime Grimmjow-San.” Grimmjow raised his glass and tipped it toward the man lightly, “Sure, Cap.” Nanao turned abruptly before leaving the bar, her glare fierce and pointed at the Arrancar, “Vice-Captain Matsumoto is looking for you.” She glared harder causing Grimmjow to actually lean back away from her subconsciously. The woman smirked as if she had just defeated him and in a quick motion pulled her Captain out of the bar and view. Grimmjow turned back forward in his seat shaking his head slightly, “Weird day…” he took a sip of his Sake, but spit it out in surprise as his eyes opened. “Shit woman!” he growled in surprise, “The hell did you come from…” He was familiar with the woman standing before him, though had never actually spoke to her. She was a lean and barring a few oddities rather beautiful in her own way, her attire didn’t hurt either. He had found himself gawking more then once down in that freaks laboratory when she needed to bend over for something. “Grimmjow…” her tone was small and somewhat subdued, “My father requires your presence…” “Fuck that asshat…” spat Grimmjow and took another larger drink from his glass. “I’ve been informed that unless you submit you are to be branded an enemy of Soul Society and killed.” Her tone was still subdued and near emotionless. “Tch” Grimmjow was a prideful man, and more then a little confident in his abilities, especially after besting a Captain. But he was no full either, and the lot of them coming down on his was a fight he couldn’t win. “Whatever…” he replied in annoyance and abruptly finished off his drink and slid it down the bar. “This way please…” Said the woman as she motioned toward the door with one arm. The two moved outside where they stood for a moment, “I am correct in assuming you have the strength to use Sonido, yes?” Grimmjow chuckled, “You underestimate me woman.” “Very well. Follow me.” He words were still so small, so weak…it annoyed the Arrancar. She sped of using Shunpo. Grimmjow sighed and took a step forward, He supposed putting off Matsumoto's retribution a while wasn't a bad thing. The static reverberation of his Sonido echoing through the mostly silent area of Soul Society and he was gone. ~~~ Next Chapter ~ Testing...One,Two and ThreeWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
