Here is Chapter Seventeen of Shimigami Romance.
Chapter Seventeen.
Tamika smiled at Byakuya as they stood at her door of her residence that morning. “You know, people are going to be spreading rumors about us. I know Ichigo had saw us by how he backed away from the balcony, yesterday.”
“I don’t care as long as I am able to make this arrangement work between you both, Nara-san.” Byakuya stated, as he looked at her. “We need to keep up the ruse till the day of your wedding if you agree to marrying him.”
“I know and thank you for helping with it.” Tamika said, as she bowed her head slightly to him.
“Shouldn’t you be at your squad’s compound right now?” Byakuya asked, as he looked at her.
“Yes, but I decided to sleep here last night.” Tamika stated.
“Are you heading for your new squad’s compound?”
“I really should. I’ve delayed it this much, sooner I get there the better.”
“May I escort you there?” Byakuya asked.
Tamika smiled. “I would like that very much, Byakuya-san.”
Byakuya smiled slightly before he offered her his arm as they walked away from her residence towards the fifth division compound. They talked as they walked there, passing several soul reapers who gasped in shock as they went past, but they didn’t mind the stares that they got.
When they reached the gates, they didn’t walk in immediately. Byakuya looked to the East of the gate and then turned to Tamika, as he pulled her close to him.
“I am going to kiss you now, Nara-san. Now act the part.” Byakuya whispered, as he bent to Tamika’s lips and gently brushed his lips against hers before taking her into a bigger kiss. He felt the presence of Kenpachi and his vice captain approaching the area and knowing her mouth, she’ll inform his squad about what she saw. Byakuya’s hands wrapped around her waist and pulled her close to his own body.
“Hi Bykushi! Hi Tamika!” Cheered Yachiru, from Kenpachi’s left shoulder, waving her little hand and smiling big like she saw something that she shouldn’t have seen.
They pulled apart and looked a bit embarressed about being caught. Byakuya straightened up as he looked at Kenpachi and Yachiru. Kenpachi just smiled as he walked past them, but he stopped and looked back, “Might want to hide your affection inside or people will start to talk, Byakuya.” And then, he was off walking away from them. Yachiru just smiled and waved goodbye them.
Byakuya put his hand to his face. “She will tell the vice-captains about this.”
“Even if he knows, there is nothing he can do as he doesn’t want a thing to do with me anymore. Anyway, his loss is your gain, Byakuya.” Tamika replied, as she wrapped her arms around his neck smiling up at him.
Byakuya smiled slightly as he looked at her. “What will you be doing today?”
“Visiting with him.” Tamika said, as she looked at him and then towards the baracks of another squad.
“I should go. I have papers to deal with.” Byakuya spoke, as they pulled apart from each other.
“I’ll see you later on tonight?” Tamika asked.
“If I get my papers done in time, if not eat, I probably will dine in the office tonight.” He said, before he bowed to her and rushed off to his office to begin work on the paperwork.
Tamika waved bye to her apparent lover as she turned and headed towards her squad’s barracks to see several lower ranked members staring at her in shock. “Do I have to punish some of my members? You better scram before I step inside or you will be washing the entire compound down from top to bottom.”
They ran from her sight as quickly as they could. Tamika headed for her office and immediately set upon starting to change the room about, making it be something of her own style and not of the former captain. She spent three hours before she was satisfied with how it looked. She smiled at the Japanese feel of her office. “Now for my chambers,” She headed out of the office and down the corridor to see Hiramori standing at the chamber. “Hiramori?”
“Captain Nara-san, I did your chambers while you were busy. I hope I did it right.” Hiramori said, as she bowed to her.
Tamika opened the door and looked within her chambers to see that the room was sparse with a fusion of Japanese and the Western culture mixed into it by the bed that was there. She turned to look at Hiramori and smiled. “You have done wonderful. You listened to what I talked about earlier in the office.”
“Yes, I did. I know I still admire Cap . . . I mean Aizen but what he did to me and to the tenth division captain and to Rukia was wrong, I now know that he is not the man that I had admired when I first joined the academy, he no longer has my admiration in that way anymore.” Hiramori said.
“Why the change of heart about him, Hiramori, you were so fond of him?” Hiramori didn’t seem to want to talk about it. Tamika motioned to her chambers with her hand. “Come into my chambers and we’ll talk there privately.”
Hiramori nodded as she entered the room with Tamika behind her. “Thank you for not being angry at me, Nara-san.”
“Why should I be angry at you? Have you violated a rule here in the Soul Society?” asked Tamika.
Hiramori shook her head. “No. But because . . . I still admire Aizen.”
“But deep down in your heart, you know he is not the man you first met that day long time ago, correct?” asked Tamika.
“Yes.”
“Then, I hold no anger towards you.” Tamika replied. “He was once a good Captain but not anymore, he killed them without remorse and he planned his own death and made us all think he was dead. Even I was fooled when I heard about it.”
“You were fooled by him as well?” Hiramori asked shocked.
“Yes, I heard the news and I was saddened to hear of his death. I wondered who would be so powerful and strong to kill him. I first thought it was Kenpachi but I knew he was no where close to where he was found.” Tamika said.
“You knew where Kenpachi was at?” asked Hiramori.
“Yes, he was at his squad’s practice field practicing.” Tamika replied.
“How do you know?”
“I was there fighting against him, we usually do practice together fighting at our best and then we would go drink some sake or water till we’re ready to fight again. But that day, we got the call about the death of a Captain and went running to the area.” Tamika stated, as she looked into the mirror at her reflection and that of Hiramori’s.
Hiramori walked over to the door and looked towards the sky to see that it was getting close to breakfast time. “It is close to breakfast time, maybe we should head for the dining hall.”
Tamika nodded as she got up from her chair and headed towards the door with Hiramori behind her. “You are going to have to lead me to where it is as the dining hall in the squads are different and I’m not familiar with this squads’ layout as of yet.”
“Sure, keep straight and when you come to the four way, go right and we should be there within a few moments,” Hiramori said, as they walked on till they opened the doors to the dining hall.
The members of the squad who were there getting ready to eat, quickly stood up. “Nara-Taichō!” Yelled one of the members in the room when he saw the captain walk in.
Tamika smiled at her squad. She bowed to show them respect. “Please return to eating.” And she headed off to the line to get food just like the rest of the squad members and then headed to her seat in front of the squad.
Hiramori was sitting next to her as they spoke to each other in low whispers setting out what they were going to do for that day if the papers were finished on time.
It was not too long before, they were within the office dealing with things that was in need of being dealt with. They could hear loud footsteps coming towards the office.
“Forgive the interruption, Taichō of the fifth squad! There is a Hollow attack in Karakura Town. The Taichō General asks that you and your squad handle this personally.” A guard stated as he bowed to them.
“Hiramori, summon the squad we leave immediately.” Tamika stated, as her eyes never left the guard. “What about the substitute Soul Reaper is he there?”
“He’s still here, Taichō!”
“Damn, tell him to get to the gate fast. His town is in need of him. We’re going a head of him!” Tamika stated, as she grabbed her sword and rushed from her office.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Tamika reached the gate with her squad behind her. She glanced around for Ichigo and shook her head. She looked at the ones who had opened the gate. “If he comes, let him and his friends through, if not, wait for our return. Squad Five into the gate!” And she raced into the gate with Hiramori behind her along with the rest of her squad.
Karakura Town looked peaceful when they appeared. Tamika knew that the Hollow that they had been sent to kill was somewhere in the city. She glanced over at Hiramori and then to her squad. “Split up in to small groups of three and spread out over the city. Call us if you have found the Hollow and wait for backup to arrive, keep the Hollow where you found it if at all possible. Okay? I don’t want anyone hurt on this mission.”
“Yes, Taichō!” They all said, as they split up into threes and hurried out to search for the Hollow.
Tamika was left with Hiramori and another female squad member. She looked at her and then to Hiramori. “We best search that area.” Tamika pointed off to the north.
They nodded and headed off in that direction searching for the Hollow by the detectors that they were using to search for it.
It was twenty minutes later; Hiramori yelled that the Hollow was here. They all drew their Zanpakutō and got ready to fight the Hollow when it appeared before them a few blocks away.
“Call it in, Hiramori!” Tamika yelled off as she got her sword ready to attack the Hollow when the others arrived or if the Hollow attacks them.
“I’m doing so now, Taichō!” Hiramori replied, as she called the others to return to them. Her eyes went wide in shock. “Taichō! They’re under attack by Hollows!”
Tamika looked over at her. “Then, let us finish this Hollow off and go aid the others.”
They both nodded as they lunged together towards the Hollow and killed it. They hurried back towards the nearest location of a member of the squad and helped them kill their Hollow as they went for the other Hollows with the squad members behind them. It was the last Hollow, which proved to be more dangerous to them all. Tamika looked it as it was huge almost the size of a Menos Grande. She looked over at Hiramori. “It has to be a Menos Grande, tell the Society we need more help.”
Hiramori nodded and started to do the call when the Cero blast came from the Hollow and nearly killed her. She fled to a rooftop with some of the members. She looked at her phone and tried to radio in reinforcements. “Who has a working phone? The Hollow damaged mine!”
The other members took out their phones and made the calls but then started to look at their phones in wonder. Tallas, the reaper who was with her and Tamika spoke. “They’re being jammed!”
“Damn! Tamika, the phones are being jammed! No way to call in for help!” Hiramori yelled.
“Get the gate opened and go get help! I’ll stand and fight!” Yelled Tamika.
Several of the squad members leapt down by Tamika’s side with their swords out as Hiramori and a few injured members fled into a gate and vanished, leaving them to fight.
~~~~~~~~~~
The Captain of the 7th squad, Sajin Komamura was standing at the gate talking with the ones who opened it when Hiramori and the others emerged at a run from it. Sajin quickly took notice of the lack of their Captain. “Hiramori, where is your Captain?”
“She’s still fighting! A Menos Grande showed up! She and a few others are still there. They need help!” Hiramori cried out.
“I’m going to aid them! Get all squads here!” Yelled Sajin, as he and his squad went racing into the gate.
Without another word, one of the Hell butterflies flew off to get the message to the others, in hopes that they would be able to get there in time to help Tamika and Sajin defeat the Menos Grande.
By the time, all of the squad captains reached the gate, Sajin and his squad was still not back. Byakuya and Zaraki looked at each other and nodded as they started to pull their swords out of their sheaths ready to go into battle the moment they reached the other side of the gate. When the gate opened and members of the 7th squad came racing out holding members of the 5th squad.
Byakuya noticed that Tamika was no where amongst them. He went to the first member he saw and spoke, “Where is your captain?”
“She’s injured,” He stated. “She took a blow meant for us!”
Byakuya turned to the gate and started to run for it when Zaraki and Ukitake grabbed him and held him there as he struggled to get to the gate. Just as he flung them both off, the gate opened and Sajin came racing out roaring for medical to come to him.
The 4th squad went racing towards him only to find out that he was holding within his furry arms the body of a Captain. They started to call for their Captain to get over there quickly.
Sajin looked at Unohana. “She’s injured, seriously. Her right arm is slashed pretty badly as is most of her back, Unohana.”
Unohana looked over at Sajin before she looked at the form that was buried in his arms – Tamika. She pulled her sword and whispered her Bankai as her one-eyed flying manta ray appeared. “It is very serious; please place her within Minazuki, Sajin.”
Sajin did so before Byakuya could escape the grasps of the two captains. He turned to look at him and smiled slightly. It was only a rumor going around about Byakuya and Tamika and by how he reacted, that is must serious between them.
Byakuya wanted to go with them but Unohana refused stating that they need to deal with the Menos Grande. But Sajin replied that the Grande was defeated by him and the other squad members of both his squad and that of the 5th squad.
Ukitake placed his hand on Byakuya’s shoulder and whispered. “We need to talk. Alone.”
Byakuya nodded as they walked away from the others together. Everyone assumed that Ukitake was trying to lessen the concern of Byakuya over his girlfriend. The other squad members who were not injuried returned to their compound to wait for word from their vice captain on the condition of their captain.
“I cannot believe that she stepped in front of that blast and took it head on!” spoke one member.
“I thought we were toast!”
“I’m glad that we have a good captain in Tamika. She risked her life for us. That is something that Aizen wouldn’t have done.” Another one stated as they walked towards their compound.
They were all chattering about Tamika but one made the comment about Byakuya’s reaction to their captain’s injury.
“What if she got married to him? Would she desert us?” asked another.
“I do not know, it is not known what a married Captains would do in this situation.” Another one stated.
Another whispered. “I hope she doesn’t, we ara lucky to have a Captain finally who cares for us like she does.”
“I not one to say this, but you are right, Aizen acted like he cared for us but he didn’t, Tamika does care for us and it showed in how she took the blast for us,” as they all headed to the fourth division to wait word on the condition of their captian.
~~~~~~~~~~
It was three days and three nights before Tamika emerged from the fourth division fully healed, though the extra day and night was to make sure that the wounds would not reopen. Tamika walked out with Byakuya by her side as they chatted in soft whispers. He glanced at her men. “It seems that you have won over your squad, Nara-san. I will see you tonight . . . for supper,”
Tamika and he bowed to each other before Byakuya walked away from her side. She looked at her squad and smiled. “Lets return to our division. I’ve wasted enough time on my belly,”
They nodded and headed back to the fifth division.
Stay tuned, the next one could come any time now.
