By the time the sun was rising at dawn, she was more than halfway to the Twelfth Division House. The place seemed like a ghost town as she hurried down the barren trails and rushed to the dreaded facility despite her heavy dislike of the place.
Something about last evening just wasn't settling well with her. It had kept her up for a majority of the night and she swore it felt like she was on the brink of a panic attack over it. She knew Captain Unohana was still normally asleep and didn't want to bother with waking her up so... she decided to head on over by herself. Shit, she never should've left last night; she should've just stayed and made sure that the woman was okay. But it had just been so chaotic and she had been so exhausted... she never even thought about it. Pushing open the Division doors, she ran into the lobby and looked around for anyone who could escort her back into the hellish depths of this place. Up until now, there had always been someone escorting her around, making sure she didn't get lost. But now... even the lobby itself was completely empty. She didn't want to sit around and wait for someone to show up though... she had to get there now. Sighing briefly, she decided to go against her better judgment and headed into the sheer heart of the place. Praying to some kind of celestial force that she wouldn't get lost in the process of her panic. The neat corridors that lead down into separating wings were more than likely for sleeping barracks and were at least kept clean of chemicals. Hopefully anyways. But the further she progressed, the more dark it got and the colder it was as well... the temperature drop was light at first until a sheer drop signaled the hair on her hair to stand up as slight chills stirred across her body. Okay... nothing to worry about, if she remembered her footsteps, she could eventually get there right? Hopefully in one piece and with all limbs attached. And maybe she wouldn't become some kind of experiment herself. It wasn't long before the corridors split open into the massive facility labs she had become all too familiar with. Just the scent and atmosphere of it alone was enough to make her stomach cringe inward on itself. She just had to remind herself to stay calm as she tried to avoid contact with any of the lingering Division members. Not that she thought she would actually have to have an explanation for her presence but... who knows. Anything could happen and right now... she felt as though she was becoming more and more paranoid about everything. "Lieutenant Kotetsu." Shit. She turned at the call of her name but gave into a sigh of relief as she only spotted Officer Akon walking towards her; he had an expression as though he hadn't been expecting her- then again, she wasn't entirely expecting herself to be here this early either. "Oh, good... look Akon, I just... I have this bad feeling and I need to go see Nemu right now. Can you take me to her?" He hesitated for a moment before he gave into a nod. "Well, you are in charge of her health, I have no other choice but to." Yeah, yeah, yeah, she just wanted him to take her there. Now. She hurried after him and tried not to let herself out pace him... although her own sense of a rush seemed to convince him to push his own along the way. Every passing moment and passing corridor seemed to drag on and on, which only fueled her nerves to fry themselves further. She was almost certain she had made herself sick by the time they reached the familiar wing. She wasted no time in pushing past him and rushing to the bedroom door as quickly as she could. It felt like the door tried to slip from her grasp before she shouldered it aside in one clean hit. The bedroom area itself was empty; her bed didn't even look like it had been slept in recently... then again, she could've just made it after she got up. But then where did she go? That's when the trickle of water coming from the bathroom caught her attention. Okay so maybe the woman was just taking a shower then. As awkward as it was going to be, she just... it felt like she needed to see her in order to reassure herself that things were okay. Pushing herself across the room, she took note that the bathroom door had been left open anyways and allowed for her to peer straight into the room regardless. Through the blurred glass of the shower box, she could spot a black form inside. "... Nemu?" Isane called as she slowed her steps just slightly as she moved her way across the small room. Fingers touched lightly at the cold glass of the shower door before she eased it open to reveal the woman on the other side. She was seated in one corner, still dressed in her uniform as freezing cold water rained down from the showerhead. Her knees were pulled up against her with her arms just lightly wrapped around them. "What on Earth are you doing?" she questioned as she reached over and shut the water off as quickly as she could. "Come on... how long have you been in here?" The question was barely noted by her as she hardly took note of how the calming rhythm of the water stopped. The feel of the woman lightly pulling on her was enough to draw her attention away from its seclusion as she turned to her for a moment. "... Isane?" "Yes... yes it's me, now come on." she ushered as she helped the woman to her feet; taking note of the sheer paleness of her form. She moved to brush her heavy bangs from her face and noted that her lips were found of all color as well. "How long have you been in there?" "I don't know... a few hours." "That is not healthy for someone in your condition." Isane sighed as she looked around the small room before she reached for a towel from where they had been neatly stack onto a nearby shelf; she didn't bother with how grabbing one seemed to pull the rest of them loose and leave them scattered across the floor. "Come here, let's at least try to get you dry." She felt the woman try to wrap the towel around her; attempting to first wrap up her water-heavy hair before she pushed her hands aside. "I'm fine, I just... I want to be left alone." "What do you mean?" Isane started; watching as her fellow Lieutenant seemed to go out of her way to avoid eye contact with her. "... Did something happen?" "Did Officer Akon bring you here?" "What? Well... yeah, he's standing just outside-" "Tell him to remember what I said to him yesterday." She started to question her again but thought better of it this time and only nodded. "I'll go get you another uniform from your closet..." slowly forcing herself out of the bathroom, she made her way back to the open bedroom door where the other Division member stood waiting. "Uh... look, I'm going to stay with her for a bit until Captain Unohana arrives, is that alright?" "Of course." he nodded. "I'll be in the labs if you need me." "Sure thing." she remarked before she eased the door closed just shortly after he turned to leave; she hesitated for a moment before she moved to turn the lock as well- just in case. Pushing herself away from the doorway, she walked over to where the woman's closet was and grabbed the first thing she could; actually grabbing a bundle of them instead. She tried to make herself seem just a bit more relaxed before she headed back into the bathroom; taking note of the other woman untwisting her hair before she wrapped it tightly with a towel. "Here, I might've made a mess of your closet but I'll fix it later." She glanced over at the words before she carefully took the black bundle the woman handed to her. Releasing the towel she had been using to dry her hair, she quickly untied the thick obi sash from around her waist and let it drop easily to the floor below. Fingers peeled aside the dark material of her wet uniform and had to force it from her shoulders before the damp fabric fell heavily to the ceramic tiles underneath. Almost instantly, she felt the other Lieutenant push a cleaner towel towards her; ultimately covering her bare breasts. She tried to find a way to let the words calm her, but it did little to do so. Her stomach was cramping up enough already and the recent upheavals did little to fix it; if anything, it made them worse instead. The sudden illness seemed to come out of nowhere just the same. One moment she was asleep and the next... well she was rushing to get to the bathroom before her stomach turned against her. The ceramic tiles were cool against her knees as she pushed herself away from the toilet for a moment; hoping her stomach would settle soon. “I’m sorry that you have to be here for this.”
“Oh nonsense, I have seen far worse cases than this.” She remarked. “I am Fourth Division Captain after all.”
“Have you dealt with many pregnancy cases?”
“Ah well… a few. One in particular was horrific to say the least. I mean, baby and mother came out just fine in the end but the getting there point was… the worst. She suffered from constant morning sickness, she had to be in bed rest during her last month and when the birthing was done, she nearly went into cardiac arrest. It was terrible. Not to mention during the labor, her hip cracked and nearly fractured itself; one of the joints was nearly pulled free as well. Thankfully in disregard to that, she was fairly healthy and handled her new baby well. I haven't heard much from her now and days but her daughter was absolutely beautiful." "Is there a possibility that will happen to me?" "Each pregnancy is unique and completely different from the others so there's no telling. So far, you're in perfect health and handling well but you're just going on two months now, so there's no telling just yet." Unohana answered. "I doubt you'll suffer as much as the other woman did, you could probably handle a bit more with how your status is." She nodded lightly at the words, finding just a bit more comfort in them this time. Leaning back, she pressed herself against the nearby wall and moved one hand to wipe away the light sweat that had collected at her brow. The dark-haired Captain across from her was kneeled lightly behind where she had been seated before but she slowly pushed herself back into a more comfortable position. "... Can I ask you something?" "That's what I'm here for." She waited patiently to gather her question together and pull herself into one piece. "Isane said that you both believed what Officer Akon told you yesterday before you left... but you were present at that moment. Why did you believe him?" "I was waiting for the moment when you would ask me something of that." Unohana nodded. "I believe it was a horrible idea to have left at such a time... I can see now all the problems that it had caused. But, in actuality, while it was a bit out of character for me to do... I did have a reason for it. You see, some people here question my sense of power; as Fourth Division Captain, I'm a non-combative unit and I keep that kind of talk under constraints. However... when it comes to power in debating terms and arguments, I do have the upper hand in them. I spoke with Captain Yamamoto after I left, I had been planning to speak with him for some time now but after what I witnessed yesterday, I figured now would be the best time. You see... he had been planning a small exhibition to go out and investigate into some hollow rumors that have been circulating recently. I was asked to go but I said that certain upcoming events were going to hold me back; in my place, I suggest for Captain Mayuri's presence instead. He could conduct scientific studies while he was out and those results would greater benefit the Society. So it was decided that he would go; he's scheduled to leave in ten hours. In which case... that would leave me in charge of this operation until he returns, which could be days." "... You set him up?" "As I said before and as everyone knows, I'm a non combative leader but I know my way around a battle. I assure you, he'll return safely and in one piece."While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
