Training in Urahara’s basement because an occasional place besides hunting hollows where they could be truly themselves before their friends. Though Orihime knew her powers or thought she knew them well, there was always room for tweaking it seemed. Not one to settle down to a ‘quiet’ time she tagged along after Ishida to see just what he was working on with Chad.
She never got tired of seeing the bow form out of an inward rush of spirit particles. Alternatively, the intense light in his blue eyes when honing in on a target. However, this time the training was far more intense. In addition, it was not in Urahara’s basement but deep under the hospital in a rather austere room with just the basics needed for achieving a goal.
After a few minutes in one of the changing rooms, Orihime glimpsed her own reflection in the glass and a flurry of white as Ishida zipped up the front of a repaired outfit. She turned around and looked at him with confusion and amusement. “You are playing dress up? Role playing?”
“The most serious kind,” Ishida said to Orihime as he dusted off his Quincy uniform.
She bent up to kiss him and he folded her in a hug. Then he pulled back reluctantly. The charm on his wrist jingled a bit and Orihime bit her lip. “Uryuu?”
“You with me?” he asked.
Her rounded eyes widened and she nodded, her stomach twisting into knots of confusion. “Of course. But what's gotten into you? You look like you're going off to some fight...”
“I am,” he said.
“You mean a showdown?” his girlfriend asked. Her mind flashed ahead and she blinked as she stepped back.
Cobalt blue eyes narrowed behind square shaped glasses. “I'm sick of him humiliating me and telling me how to live my life. Now he's gone too far. Involving your friend in this. I can't just let him get away with it...”
“Uryuu, you're not going to fight him are you? Tatsuki...” trailed off Orihime.
“That's exactly what I'm going to do,” said the young Quincy. “Beat some sense into him.”
“Uryuu that's not a good idea,” the girl cautioned as she grabbed his arm.
Turning, the white mantle flared around his shoulders a bit. Uryuu mumbled, “It's a Quincy tradition. Besides, he's expecting me to.”
“Expecting you to fight him?” asked Orihime puzzled as she tried to put the pieces together. “You mean a duel?”
The young Quincy nodded as the elevator dinged open. He had thrust a key into the slot to activate access to the basement. She shivered seeing the dim blue lights revealed as Uryuu stepped forwards into the gloom, his back to her. Orihime rushed after him, shaking her head and intent on stopping him if he tried to do something stupid.

Across the room on the other side, Tatsuki was stretching by bending over. Her white Val tudo uniform was loose and comfortable, yet still white in color. She was not sure if tagging along to a training session was a good or a bad idea but she was curious to see the level of training Ryuuken would impose upon his son. She heard the door opening and she turned to see her friend and the white figured form standing just inside the square of light. Out of the gloom, several arrows shot narrowly past Tatsuki trained towards the other couple. Orihime ducked out of the way, as they hit the far wall and Ishida brought his wrist up.
“Prepare yourself, Uryuu,” Ryuuken said in a low tone, pulling out the charm Tatsuki knew he kept on him at all times. If she stood behind him, she could see the gleam of white blue energy surging as he gleaned reishi from the world around and instantaneously formed his own bow. Unlike his son’s it was solid and metallic, but far less elaborate.
To this, the younger Quincy said nothing but chose to blur out with gathered reishi under his feet. Orihime formed her shield to block any stray arrows, something that would tax her powers and show how long she could maintain it. She steeled herself for a shower of assaulting blue missiles, her eyes trained on her boyfriend’s barely discernible movement.
All the older Quincy had to do was swivel and train the spray of arrows spitting from his bow turned sideways. Tatsuki always wondered why Ryuuken preferred to shoot one handed.
“Are you crazy?” yelled Tatsuki as she suddenly grabbed the doctor's wrist. “If you hit my friend I'll knock you into next week!”
“I don't miss,” Ryuuken said as he summoned his bow with his other hand and pulled Tatsuki towards him. Before she could twist out of his grasp he was halfway across the room, one arm held before him with the metallic bow extended.
“Enough games buster!” she snorted as she ducked and grabbed Ryuuken's other arm and flipped him over.
The older Quincy flipped over and landed easily, but his eyes showed momentary confusion seeing Tatsuki suddenly charge him with her fists flashing out. He avoided her kick and her rapid series of punches.
“Tatsuki, I'm not fighting you I'm fighting...”
“Not on my terms you aren't you pain in the ass! You are NOT going to participate in some stupid macho shithead trip! I won't have it!” Tatsuki yelled at the silver haired man.
Though the younger Quincy had raised his bow to fire but Tatsuki kept getting in his way preventing a clear shot. Frustrated Orihime put her hands up and shouted, “Santen kesshun I reject!”
Her orange triangular shield blocked Ishida Uryuu’s shots. Before he could fire again, she gently thrust her hands forward so the shield pushed Ishida into the far wall and pinned him behind it.
Employing her own tatic of restraining her fiancée, Tatsuki elbowed him in the stomach and tossed him again, keeping hold of his wrist. She then sat down on him hard and forced him to glare at her with a pissed off glance.
“Tatsuki what the hell are you doing?” Ryuuken snapped, his dark eyes gleaming in irritation.
Young eyebrows knit into a frown she retorted, “Stopping you from making an ass of yourself. I'll keep getting in your way till you stop shooting at your own son.”
“This isn't your...” he began, but stopped seeing the scowl crossing her face.
“Bull,” Tatsuki said as she grabbed both his hands. Knowing his Quincy honor wouldn't let him fight her without a good reason.
“Orihime let me go!” Uryuu yelled from behind his girlfriend’s shield.
“Not until you two talk like civilized beings!” she scolded.
Across the room, her best friend warned, “You'd better listen to Orihime. Because anyone who makes her cry gets the snot beat out of them.”
The silver haired Quincy doctor protested, “This is not something that will harm her if she agrees to...”
“You keep up this stuff and I'll... never let you touch me again,” Tatsuki threatened.
Her words were sufficient to stop the Quincy doctor in his tracks. The corners of Uryuu’s mouth tipped up in a smile and Orihime hid hers behind one hand. Father and son’s eyes met, knowing that it was part of the old ritual they had not counted on.
