Chapter Fifteen.

It was thirty minutes before the Captains were able to mingle with the guests in the grand hall and the revelation of which squad Tamika had picked for her own. Ichigo, Uryuu, Orihime, Chad, and Rukia along with the other high ranked members of the squads were within the hall waiting for the Captains to come out and reveal where Tamika was now ranked.
�So where do you think she�ll be ranked at . . . Captain level or a Vice Captain?� Ichigo asked.
�It is unknown where she would be ranked at if she did do a Bankai and that the other Captains were suitably impressed with it,� Rukia stated.
Yumichika smiled. �I hope she picked the eleventh division. It would be nice to have another female in the ranks that Yachiru likes, especially when she gets older and becomes a woman.�
Orihime spoke, looking at him. �I�m sure she has good friends in the other squads who will assist her during her first time having her cycle, Yumichika.�
�You think so?� Yumichika asked.
Kiyone looked at them both. �She will have plenty of females to help her during that time. My sister helped me with mine and we both will help her with it, since Kenpachi would probably be at a loss to explain this change to Yachiru. But this celebration is for Tamika. Where does everyone think what squad she will pick to join? I�m hoping for the thirteenth squad personally and maybe the vice captain spot. I love the spot but it is time for the spot to be filled full time.�
Sentar� turned towards Kiyone and snapped. �That�s where she�ll be if she did everything that all of us think she did! She�ll probably pick the thirteenth squad!�
�Yeah,� Kiyone snapped. Soon the pair was bickering amongst themselves like a married couple.
The others just shook their heads and made comments about where Tamika could be placed if she produced a Bankai and the other Captains accepted her into their ranks.
Rukia noticed that the doors were starting to open up. �They�re here!�
The General Captain came walking out with his Vice Captain before the second squad came out and then the rest of the Captains and the Vice Captains came after. Everyone in the Great Hall including Rukia was shocked when they saw Tamika walking in the fifth place where the Captain for that squad would be. Rukia never thought that Tamika would go for the 5th squad ever, Tamika had spoken about how much Hinamori was blind to the fact that Aizen had used her for his own means and hurt her so badly.
The General Captain Yamamoto stomped his wooden cane silencing the room and spoke. �We have accepted a new Captain into our ranks! Nara Tamika has chosen the fifth squad as the squad she will Captain! Fifth squad accept your new Captain!�
Tamika stepped forth. �I hope to regain the honor of the Fifth squad and make it a proud squad once more.�
Everyone clapped as Yamamoto allowed them to mingle with the guests. Tamika went to see Ichigo and his friends.
�I still don�t understand why you took that squad, Tamika. You could have had a good man behind you but why take that squad?� asked Ichigo, looking at Tamika in her Captain�s haori.
�I wanted to have that squad regain it�s honor from being shamed. I think with me as Captain, Hinamori will see that I am not like Aizen and that she needs to see that he will not be returning,� Tamika stated, glancing over at Hinamori who smiled slightly at her new captain. �I can only hope that she will learn to trust me and believe in herself again,�
Renji watched with disdain as Tamika was presented as the new Captain of the 5th squad. He made a comment about how long that will last before she turns tail and runs away.
Byakuya glanced over at him not really shocked by his second-in-command�s comment. �What do you mean, Renji?�
�She�s a rogue, Byakuya, she�ll run when she realizes that being a Captain is harder then she thinks,� Renji replied.
�And why didn�t you turn tail and run when you became my Vice Captain, Renji?� Byakura growled off. He was in a way insulted by Renji�s comment about Tamika.
�Because I wanted to surpass you and beat you, Byakuya.� Renji replied.
Byakuya shook his head. �Not anymore, you wanted to beat me to prove yourself to Rukia, you like her more then you are hinting?�
�She is like a sister, Byakuya, besides she likes Ichigo more then me now,� Renji replied.
�So you still have feelings for Tamika then?� Byakuya said.
�She means nothing to me,� Renji replied roughly turning away from his Captain and stalking out of the hall without another word.
�He still holds anger about what I said in the real world,� Tamika said, as she went up to the 6th division Captain.
�His pride will not let him drop it and yet . . . he is conflicted about his feelings,� Byakuya stated. �When he realizes that you are no longer interested in him, he may realize that he loves you.�
�By that time, he will be too late, for I probably will have found another to love,� Tamika glanced towards another Shinigami and smiled, before returning to look at Byakuya. �Did you read the letter I gave to you about him?�
�Yes and I agree to the offer.� Byakuya replied, looking at her. He looked towards the others. �You should visit with your friends. I will come by later,�
Tamika smiled gently at him and bowed before heading off to meet up with the rest of Squad five�s ranked officers to get to know them before they had to get into battle to know more about each other.
Rukia stepped to her brother�s side. �You love her don�t you brother?�
Byakuya looked down at his sister and then to Tamika who was talking with her ranked officers and Ichigo. �I can not deny it to you, Rukia.�
�But why is he watching her?� asked Rukia, nodding her head towards another Shinigami who was keeping an eye on Tamika.
Byakuya whispered something to Rukia as she turned to look at her brother. �Yes, now keep it a secret as this is not something that either of them want public.�
�So you are acting like you are dating her in his place?� Rukia whispered.
�Yes, now be silent about it, even from them,� Byakuya stated, as he looked at the human friends of his sister�s.
�Yes, brother. They will not know,� Rukia said. �But what if Renji learns about this?�
�That is his problem, not mine. He will not hurt Tamika again,� Byakuya stated.
�He will probably try to talk you out of dating her, brother.� Rukia replied, noticing that Orihime was approaching the pair, quickly switching the talk to the other Captains. �It is not uncommon for Captains to date other Captains, look at Retsu and Kenpachi. No one would have guessed that they were dating at all. And no one is complaining about it either.�
�That is correct that they aren�t,� Byakuya noted.
Orihime looked at Byakuya and then to Rukia. �Thank you for sponsoring her to get a Seat in the Squads, Captain Kuchiki,�
�Well, I wasn�t sure that she had a Bankai and she ended up having one. It is not very common for most Shinigami�s to hide that fact from anyone.� Byakuya stated. �Well, Renji hid his till he fought with me when we were going to kill . . . .�
It was something that Byakuya really didn�t want to talk about so he stopped before he said the word. Rukia and Orihime both knew and didn�t say a word about it as they nodded silently.
�Where did Renji-kun go off to?� asked Orihime. �I was going to ask him something and I don�t see him anywhere.�
Rukia looked at her. �He left, he�s not wishing to even associate with Tamika even if it is to congradulate her for becoming a Captain. His pride is still stinging from whatever she had said in the living world,�
�Oh,� Orihime said. �Maybe I could get them together in a room to talk about it?�
Rukia knew that Orihime was the one who didn�t really like to fight but she would if she had to. �That is very kind of you but I think Renji would rather fight Aizen bare handedly instead of talking to Tamika about this.�
�This is something that they have to deal with themselves, no one else can make them talk to each other.� Byakuya said.
�One day they will have to confront each other about the feelings that they had before it is too late for either of them to do so,� Orihime replied, looking towards Tamika.
Rukia thought to herself. �Sooner then later, before it is too late for him to say anything to her.� �I hope so, Orihime, I hope so.�
Soon, Tamika was next to the shinigami who had his eye on her. Rukia noticed how big Kenpachi�s smile was and she knew that if her brother hadn�t suggested having Tamika try out for Captainship, then Kenpachi was.
Rukia looked for the other Shinigami who was also having his eye on her, to see that Retsu was with him. She quickly headed for them. �Captain Unohana, is Captain Ukitake okay?�
�Yes he is. He�s just fine.� Retsu said, with a smile on her face. �We were just talking about Tamika�s new position as Captain of the 5th division.�
�Isn�t great? I was shocked that she decided to go for the 5th division. I was sure that she would have gone for one of the other two or maybe take a vice-captain spot.� Rukia stated.
�Well, I have in mind to get myself a new vice captain,� Ukitake stated, as he looked over at Rukia with a slight smile.
�You mean . . . me?� Rukia asked, shocked.
Ukitake looked a bit shocked. �Well, you have proved yourself and most of the 13th squad likes you. It would give those two a break from taking care of the job.� Ukitake looked over where his 3rd seats were at to see them talking with Tamika and Kenpachi. �Well, it is either make one of them my new vice-captain and have them both bicker about who was more worthy of the seating.�
�I got placed in the thirteenth squad by what my brother did as in making me skip over the entrance exam! I�m not even worthy of being your vice-captain?� asked Rukia, shocked.
�Well, you could always take the entrance exam to see where you are placed, if you want to see where you really stand in my squad, Rukia? I wouldn�t mind if you did that.� Ukitake stated, as he looked at her.
�You mean I could take it?� she asked shocked.
�Yes, any time you wish to take it. Just come and see me and ask me, I�ll get the test papers ready for you to take the test,� Ukitake replied, smiling gently at her.
Rukia bowed low to him. �Thank you, Ukitake, thank you for the oppurtunity to take the entrance exam. I will not let you down when I decide to take it.�
Ukitake just waved off her thanks. �Well, I figured it was time to make you a proper ranked member of my squad.�
�But am I not one already?� she asked.
�You are unranked in my squad, Rukia. You never did the test to see which seat you were placed. By Byakuya�s request.� Ukitake stated.
�I know my brother used his influence to get me in without taking the test,� Rukia said.
�So would you like to take it to see where you would be placed now?� asked Ukitake.
�I would love to try it. I want to be able to have a seat and if I fail, I know I did my best on the test,� Rukia replied.
Ukitake and Retsu both smiled at her. �I will be expecting you at the hall in the morning for the test, Rukia.�
�Thank you, Ukitake,� Rukia said, as she bowed to him before hurrying off to see her brother and let him know the good news.
Byakuya was pleased that Rukia would be able to now take the test and he told her, �Whatever your decision is about it I will go along with it, I was only trying to keep you from getting a rank to make sure that you were not harmed.�
�But if you did, someone else probably would have been in my place instead, when Ichigo needed to protect his family.� Rukia replied, noticing that Tamika was coming towards them. �I better go. I may decide to take the test tomorrow.�
�Whatever your decision is, Rukia, I will back you on it,� Byakuya whispered softly.
Rukia smiled at her brother and bowed to him before joining up with the others.
�She�s deciding on taking the test?� asked Tamika, as they both started to walk to the balcony of the Great Hall.
�Yes, Ukitake has offered it to her, Nara.�
�You can drop being so formal around me, you can say my first name instead of my last,� Tamika said, as she looked at him.
Ichigo looked around the room for Tamika. �Did anyone see where Tamika went off to?�
�I think she went to the balcony, Ichigo.� Orihime said, pointing to the one that she had seen Tamika and another Captain walk towards. She watched as he walked past her. �Ichigo, why do you want to see her?�
�I want to ask her to go see Renji and confront him about his feelings for her before something happens that prevents him from doing so.� Ichigo said, as he hurried towards the balcony.
Just as he stepped to the door way of the balcony, his eyes grew wide as he started to step back and he hurriedly returned to the others.
Uryu Ishida asked, �What�s wrong, Ichigo?�
�I believe we should leave now for the home we�re staying in as it will be some time before we see Tamika again,� Ichigo replied, as he got them to head for the exit.
�So what did you see that got you all bothered, Ichigo?� asked Orihime.
�I�ll tell you later,� Ichigo replied, as he glanced behind to see who he had seen watching him leave.

Me and my cliffhangers. Sorry, but if you know what Ichigo saw you will be squealing. But the next one is now being written and hopefully, I will be able to post it as soon as I am able to. So stay tuned, Chapter Sixteen and what Ichigo saw on the balcony will be revealed.
