Kisuke sat outside watching the sunset. Orihime, Ichigo, and Rukia had left for the night, leaving him alone with Yoruichi, who was sleeping in her cat form on the cat bed he'd provided.
His worry for Soifon lingered. He knew that once she'd recovered, she'd be troubled by her loss. Even though she hadn't truly lost to him, as she hadn't retreated, Soifon's unwavering spirit would drive her to blame herself.
Kisuke glanced at the sky as he heard Tessai guiding Jinta and Ururu to bed. Kisuke sensed Soifon's presence within him, sleeping and regaining her strength.
"I'll see to it that she takes it easy for a while," Kisuke resolved, gazing at the sunset. He hadn't noticed the door sliding open and shut behind him.
Kisuke sipped his tea, nearly spilling it when tiny feet caught his attention. Beside him, Soifon gazed at the sunset, her gray eyes inscrutable and her braids swaying gently in the wind.
"Soifon," Kisuke called, breaking her reverie. "Are you alright?" he asked, knowing she should be resting.
She glanced at him and offered a faint smile before settling onto his lap. As he set down his teacup, he carefully wrapped his arms around her fragile form.
Soifon nestled against him, her head resting on his chest. She gazed out at the twilight sky. "Are you comfortable?" Kisuke asked softly, kissing her head.
"Yes," she whispered.
They watched the sunset in tranquil silence until Soifon spoke, her voice breaking the stillness. "I'm sorry," she said, meeting his eyes.
"For what?" he asked.
"I feel awful for ruining the vacation by getting hurt," Soifon whispered, shifting in her lover's embrace. Kisuke frowned.
"I shouldn't have fought. I should have left Yoruichi and Ichigo to handle the Espada," Soifon murmured.
Kisuke listened, concerned by her self-reproach. "But the Head Captain allowed you to fight if it was a powerful Espada," he reminded her gently.
Soifon shook her head. "Yes, but I failed. The Espada was too strong for me," she said, her voice muffled against Kisuke's chest.
"Soifon, look at me," Kisuke said softly, lifting her chin. "You did your best. The Espada fled, didn't he?"
Soifon let out a faint laugh. "Only because Aizen ordered him to. But I did manage to land a few good hits.”
Kisuke nodded. "Besides, I don't think you expect an attack like that on your second day here," he said, running his fingers through her hair.
Soifon nodded, inhaling his scent. "And the worst part is we can't...until I'm better." She pouted, earning a laugh from Kisuke and a glare in return.
"Not funny!" she huffed.
Kisuke grinned. "Sorry, Captain. But we can do something else while you heal."
Soifon looked at him. "Like what?"
"We can watch movies, or do anything you planned for us for the two weeks you're here," Kisuke suggested.
"I guess I can deal with that." Soifon smiled, closing her eyes. "But can I sleep with you?"
"Sure, but you'll have to scare off anyone who asks why you're in my bed." He smiled. "They won't believe it's because of my good looks.”
Soifon's eyes rolled as she smacked Kisuke's chest. "That's so cheesy," she uttered, turning to watch the sunset. Raindrops began to fall softly, but the Soul Reapers didn't mind.
Kisuke chuckled and planted a kiss on her head, his hands resting gently on her stomach. "And you love it," he teased.
Soifon looked up and kissed him on the lips. "It's not that bad," she admitted with a frown. "I'm sorry for how I treated you in the past."
"Don't apologize. You were just expressing your feelings. I thought it was adorable," Kisuke said, kissing her back. "It made me fall for you. And now look where we are." He deepened the kiss.
Soifon nodded as she wrapped her arms around his neck. The rain intensified, and the wind picked up, but they didn't care.
