Chapter Fourteen: Path to Heartbreak
Ume's P.O.V.

8:12 PM~ Aikawa's Sushi & Bar~Date Night~Sixth Division
" What do you mean, you can't date someone of my caliber?" as I put my chopsticks down beside my plate and Ganju put another shrimp sushi in his mouth. We were at Ganju's favorite restaurant when he had dropped the news he wanted to break-off our four-year relationship.
"I told you it is unseemingly for me an Eleventh Divisioner to be dating a fifth seat and besides we both know you're weaker than I am," Ganji said with a sharp bark of laughter.
"Oh, I see. Well, Shiba-san I won't bother you again. " I stood up flying my drink in his face and I dumped the rest of my plate into his lap, and I ran into the rain-swept streets of the Sixth. I also noticed Ganji didn't come after me or even try stopping me. The knife in my heart twisting deeper.
Unbeknownst to both of us, three taichos had seen and heard the entire scene as did the entire bar. Most of the Sixth Divisioners were watching as well. Some were growling in disgust.
I ran until I reached the gates of the Eleventh and I finally collapsed as grief finally overwhelmed me. The guard at the gate immediately sent for Madarame Ikkaku and Ayasegawa Yumichika.
"Princess," I heard someone call my nickname while someone else lifts me up from the ground.
"Princess, what happened and where is Ganji?" I heard the voice say. I buried my face in whoever's chest that was holding me and I began to cry. I looked up to see my best friend Ayasegawa Yumichika, his boyfriend Hisagi Shūhei, Madarame Ikkaku, and his boyfriend Kira Izuru. I reached for Yumichika who took me from Ikkaku.
I whispered to Yumichika everything that occurred this evening and I sense his reiastu spike and the looks of concern from our friends. Yumichika then walked away with me in his arms sending a butterfly telling Unohana taicho if she could come to his barracks and he promised he would explain because the matter is delicate and private.
Unohana Retsu taicho came to Yumichika's barrack and she took one look at my tear-streaked face. With a sigh of pity, she led me to the bathroom and bathe me, clothe me in a huge shirt that Hisagi gave to Unohana.
Hisagi set up the futon in the other room with heating stones and a baby monitor just in case. Yumichika had brought out some warm blankets and Kira Izuru brought some over for me to use.
Ikkaku carried me from the bathroom to the bedroom and covered me with the blankets with a kiss to my temple and he smiles when he hears me mutters,
"Night-night, big brother."
Yumichika told the others what had happened this night to me. Ikkaku and Unohana taicho were visibly pissed while Kira looked on with compassion while Hisagi looked on with concern.
A knock and scratch at the door gained everyone's attention so Yumichika answered the door to find Kuma and a hovering Tori, and behind them were Zaraki-taicho, Ukitake-taicho, and Kuchiki-taicho. Yumichika let them in and they were told what happened.
Zaraki announced he was there so were Ukitake, Kuchiki, and half of the Sixth. Ganji bearly escaped with his life announced Ukitake-taicho while Kuchiki-taicho just watched quietly.
Tori made a nest with the extra blankets closes to her mistress while Kuma butt her head against Hisagi's knee who went a got a towel and dried off the pit bull. Kuma then wiggles her way under the covers that were covering her mistress and a warning growl which had everyone move to the living room.
Kuchiki-taicho looked upon the young woman with cool pity and he understood better than most what she is feeling. Ukitake who is standing beside him smiles softly,
"What are you thinking about Bya-chan?"
Kuchiki taicho looks at his lover with cool pity in his eyes as he spoke softly as not to disturb the sleeping girl and her pets,
"I know how much heartache hurts and even with time it doesn't heal all wounds, but finding someone to help you move forward helps. I am hoping Ume finds that someone."
Ukitake only smiled and led Byakuya into the living room. Everyone had agreed that I needed to move out of Ganji's place, and into my own place as Ukitake and Kuchiki walked in and joined them.
"Ume could stay at my place until she is able to move back into the barracks of the Sixth or she finds a small apartment." Ukitake offered.
Everyone including Kuchiki-taicho stares at him as he smiled at them. Unohana-taicho smiles in her motherly way and pats Ukitake's hand in a motherly way as she whispered,
"Why would you do that without talking this matter over with your lover?"
Ukitake-taicho and Kuchiki-taicho both blushed and cleared their throats,
"We will talk about the matter privately, of course, but in the meantime, Ume does need someplace to stay unless someone wants to inform her father and her other godfather about what has happened?'
Everyone cringed visibly. As everyone knew Aizen really never much interest in his child except her birthday and promotions, but it was Shunsui who raised Ume and if he finds out what happened to his "Plum", all hell will break loose on Ganji's ass.
"I'll give Ume a few days off, but I know she'll come into work anyway even if I order to stay here." Kuchiki-taicho chimed in quietly.
Unohana smiles her motherly smile and assures everyone that she'll make sure Ume agrees to the few days off.
Everyone agrees and everyone goes home to rest except for Unohana who stays to make sure Ume agrees to the few days off.
I woke up the next morning, with a start not recognizing where I was until I saw my godmother Unohana Retsu walking into the bedroom with my best friend Yumichika with Kuma at their feet, and Tori hovering nearby.
I knew I was going to get an earful about something or it could be worse. I sighed and I laid back down covering my eyes when I heard my godmother's voice and it was her "don't you dare open your mouth" tone.
"Ume, you are hereby on leave for a few days due to exhaustion brought on by extreme mental distress ordered by soutaicho and you'll stay will Yumichika until Ukitake-taicho comes for you before the week is up."
I just nodded of course and looked over at Yumichika who was smiling at me softly. Unohana pats my hand gently as she stood up and left me alone with Yumichika.
I turned on my side when I felt Yumichika gently nudge me with his foot and I gave a warning growl when I heard Ikkaku's voice taunting me.
"Has my Fan Dancer lost her nerve over a break up with an ass clown?"
I glared coldly at Ikkaku and I threw my pillow at his bald head. I leaped up as he flew the pillow back at me and Kuma caught it. Yumichika just shook his head at us and pointed outside tapping his feet impatiently.
I kissed Yumichika's cheek as I chased after Ikkaku jumped on his back giggling as I rubbed his balded-head which made him growl in warning at me.
"Big brother, I go bye-bye you so we can wrestle," I said in my cutest little girl voice.
Ikkaku just sighs and nods.
I spent the day helping Ikkaku and Yumichika train the new recruits, played with Yachiru, sparred with Ikkakau and Renji, and played tag with Kenpachi-taicho.
Ganji did try to reason with me. I just walked away from him while Kenpachi charges him with Kuma following growling fiercely and Tori diving and pecking at his head. I giggled at the sight.
A few days later, Ukitake-taicho showed up at the Eleventh as I was playing with Yachiru outside of Kenpachi's office. Ukitake watched us play for a while until Kenpachi made his presence known,
"Hey Fan Dancer, Ukitake-taicho is here for ya. Don'tcha have any manners?"
I looked over at Kenpachi and stuck out my tongue while sticking my middle finger at him. Kenpachi roars with laughter and Kenpachi shakes his fist at me which I feign fainting which made him laugh even more.
Ukitake-taicho only watched the exchange in amusement while Kenpachi and I took playful digs at each other. Yumichika just shook his head at us as he joined Ukitake-taicho under the tree who nodded at Yumichika.
"So is everything is set up for Ume and is Kuchiki-taicho really okay about her staying with you for a while if not she can stay here with me. Kenpachi-taicho would do anything to keep her safe." Yumichika said quietly.
Ukitake-taicho smiles warmly at Yumichika,
"Don't worry about Byakuya. He's fine with Ume staying with me until Kenpachi can turn one of the old unused dojos here into livable space is our plan. Kenpachi wants to keep any want-to-be boyfriends away from Ume. Shunsui has been on a stern watch over Ume."
Yumichika nodded in agreement and Ukitake looks over to see Ikkaku dodge a well-planted fist to his face smiling as he once again tested Ume's mettle. Ukitake laughed when he saw Ume clothesline Ikkaku with a mischievous smirk on her face.
"It seems Ikkaku likes to spar with Ume, does he not," Ukitake asked curiously.
"Ikkaku personally trained Ume once Kenpachi stole her from the Stealth Force. I think Suì-Fēng taicho never forgive taicho for stealing her best tracker." Yumichika said watching as Ume helps Ikkaku back on his feet as the two of them head over toward them.
I bow to Ukitake-taicho graciously which had Yumichika sighing with envy. Ukitake smiles gently as I straighten and I stood up with grace.
"Ume, your room is ready, and I would like to show it to you if you don't mind coming with me." Ukitake said kindly.
I just nodded as Tori landed on my left shoulder while Kuma rubbed her head against Ukitake-taicho's leg. I giggled as Ukitake-taicho reached down and pet her head.
I politely followed Ukitake-taicho a few feet away, Ukitake wasn't like my taicho and yet they are together as a couple. Hehe, I think it's cute. I shook my head of my thoughts as we came up to the small manor. It was big enough to house at least three families.
I was nearly knocked over by my other "father" who was there as well as my taicho. My "father" Shunsui hugged me so tight I thought he was going to crack one of my ribs. Luckily, Kuma growls warningly at my father who lets me go. I only giggle at my overprotective Kuma who sat right in front of me growling warningly at the three taichos while Tori screeches a challenge overhead came to hover over her four-legged sister... my girls.
I'm still giggling as Ukitake-taicho and Kuchiki-taicho led me throughout the manor with Kuma, Tori, and my father following. I was led to a huge room which belongs to me and my girls with all of my things even my bookshelves. The walls were painted cool lavender with white trimming to match my things while the bathroom had been painted blue like clear ocean with bath towels and rugs that reminded me of the sand, and finally my office looked like a lighter version of my hair color with a black desk with my paperwork waiting for me with my filing system intact along with a brand new laptop, a house-warming gift from my taicho.
I hugged Ukitake-taicho who just laughed good-humouredly and pat my head.
"You were always and still a good girl, Ume."
I blush darkly at the praise, I walked to my desk and did my work which I hadn't done in three days. I know my godmother is going to strangle me, but this work is not going to get done by itself.
Six months later...
I did something stupid. I fell in love again.
