I never do this. Why? Because I've never been good at writing a bunch of one-shots and putting them together. You guys make it look so easy. But it has been a few years since I've tried so let's hope I've improved somewhat :)
I have so many Captain parings that I finally decided to put them all together. They're not all good but I enjoyed writing them so I hope you guys at least get a kick out of it. As always I am open to constructive crit and appreciate all the help you guys give :) Thanks and enjoy :) * * * Title: Puzzling Traditions Pairing: Shunsui x Byakuya Warnings: Some Kissing Rukia had dragged him out. It was all her damned fault to begin with. He’d never been an out going sort, only appearing at those select feasts where his presence as the head of the Kuchiki-clan was a requirement. But apart from those blissfully few and sparse times he’d never attendant these infernal ‘parties’ if he could help it. And yet here he stood, on the side of the dance floor watching soul reapers, as they say, ‘tear it up’. He never understood the phrase but pegged it down to commoner stupidity. The only saving grace at the moment was that no one paid him any attention. They were dancing, drinking or passing out all of which Byakuya was also avoiding like the plague. Apart from a few spiced sake drinks… they really were quite delicious. Still he was grateful to get away from the paperwork, after the winter war it had been quite an exhausting few months, and any excuse to get away from piles of paperwork was indeed a godsend. Even if the distraction was driving him up the walls more than the piles of unfilled paperwork. Damn that Rukia. “Bya-kun” Byakuya tensed instantly. Kyoraku-taichou was neither the first nor the twentieth person he wished to speak to at the moment. In fact he was probably in the low fifties if Byakuya was any guess. The man was insufferable, more a puzzle than anything else. How did he stay so fit and lean without ever lifting a finger? How was he still walking even after drinking fifteen (He’d been keeping count) sake bottles in one go… how was he even still talking? He garnered respect for his fighting prowess and inane ability to see through people like glass. But he garnered a much greater affection… for just being himself. A great annoying puzzle… “Kyrako-tiachou,” Byakuya said, staying polite despite his wariness of the man, “I see Ukitake-taichou could not make it this evening?” “Yare,” there was perhaps the smallest whisper of regret in his voice, and not for the first time Byakuya wondered if there was anything more between them. It was a well known myth among the soul reapers and Captains. The two of them were just so close. “He’s sick again,” he shook his head, “Got caught in the rain yesterday and, well… you know how it is,” “That is a shame,” he replied and really meant it. No one enjoyed a festivity more than that man. Shunsui nodded in agreement, his hands folded gently into the sleeves of his haori. A strange comfortable silence fell between them. Despite the music and joyful cries of the dancers there was still a calm, and Byakuya was grateful. He just had to hold out for another hour before he could leave and not seem impolite- “You’re under the mistletoe,” “What?” “Mistletoe,” Shunsui said as he strolled closer, “It’s a plant in the human world,” he gestured to the ceiling but Byakuya refused to grace it with a glance, “They hang it up during this time of the year and when two people are under it…well…” he stepped a little closer and Byakuya made to step back but strong hands held him in place via his shoulders. He frowned and looked up at him but before he could speak Kyoraku leaned down and kissed him. It was so sudden that Byakuya doubted he could have reacted if he wanted to. As it were he found himself completely frozen, a strange predicament for someone who prided himself on keeping his cool in any situation. But his body had decided to promptly shut down, and just enjoy the ride. He blamed the sake. Still, as kisses went it was rather enjoyable. The perfect pressure, and slight movement combined with the scruffiness of his chin gave it a rugged charm that had his blood singing, and before long Byakuya tilted his head slightly to accommodate. It really was a nice kiss… Shunsui pulled away, and Byakuya caught himself before he could follow those warm sake soaked lips. “Mmm,” Shunsui hummed, “You kiss nice,” he said, his hands still lingering. “You too,” Byakuya said, surprising himself to the core. Where the hell had that come from? Shunsui smiled at him, and for a moment he was certain (hopeful) he would kiss him again. But instead he let go and turned away. “Good night Byakuya” he called over his shoulder before disappearing into the throng of people. He watched him go, completely baffled. He should probably be more worried at how many people had seen them kissing but he his mind, as it so often was in the case of Kyoraku was preoccupied with other things. He was such a strange man. As random as hell but with a clear goal that no one else knew of until it hit them in the face, quite literally sometimes. But right now he had so many questions. Why would he approach him from so far just to kiss him? And what was this strange ritual? What was this mistletoe? He knew very few living world customs but this had to be strangest one yet. He looked up to identify this ‘mistletoe’ and be sure to avoid it in the future, and blinked. The Ceiling was blank. Byakuya frowned and his gaze lingered where he had last seen the floral man. “Kyoraku-taichou” he said softly, “You are indeed a great annoying puzzle,” And smiled to himself, ‘But one that has me intrigued.’ * * * Odd one but I like rare parings :)While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
