Breaking the Ice
Part One
A couple weeks have passed since Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tousen had betrayed the Gotei 13 as well as all of Soul Society. Toushirou Hitsugaya's wound from the traitor had healed nicely after just a few days. Squad four was excellent at their job and they ensured him the utmost comfort and attention during his stay. It had been a little irritating.
Sighing, the young captain continued to stare at the incapacitated fifth squad vice-captain from the door way. "Aizen," he growled through gritted teeth. Hitsugaya couldn't believe that the former captain was willing to kill his vice-captain who literally worshipped the man. Of course, it was the young captain's fault for not being strong enough to protect her. If only he had been able to figure out the whole story behind Aizen's mysterious death, then maybe Hinamori wouldn't be lying barely alive before him. "Taichou," moaned a familiar voice. "Why don't you go and rest?" "Matsumoto," he said as he turned only to come face to face with her rather large bosom. That only added to his irritation. "Unlike you, I actually do my work." "Taichou," she moaned again, "That's so harsh!" "It's not harsh when it's the truth!" he snapped back. Just as he was moving to walk past his vice-captain, he stumbled a bit as he was overcome by a sudden dizzy spell. The busty shinigami easily caught him by the shoulders, preventing him from falling. "You should take it easy," she said tenderly. "You'll run a fever if you don't." "I'm fine," the spiky haired captain responded while lightly shoving her hands away. Just as he began to walk away, Matsumoto stopped him. "I nearly forgot! There's a captain's meeting tomorrow at the usual place." "Most likely to discuss Aizen's objective," he responded. "Thanks Matsumoto." With that, the young shinigami left, heading back to his quarters. His vice-captain watched him leave with worry filled eyes. "Please take care of yourself. We'll definitely need your strength in the upcoming battle.""It's no use," the young captain groaned while setting the report he was reading back down. His face looked paler than usual and his cheeks were slightly flushed. Turquoise eyes fell upon the large stack of papers on his desk. "There's still so much to do." He quickly ran a hand through his spiky hair. "So hot," he complained while glancing out the window.
Night had fallen, and from the looks of the moon, it was nearing midnight. Deciding it would be best to take a walk to cool off, Hitsugaya quickly and quietly exited his quarters and headed toward the nearest gate in the Seireitei. As he neared the gate, he bumped into a very tired looking Ukitake. "Oh, Hitsugaya-taichou," he said between yawns, "Out for a walk?" "Yeah," the boy replied. "I could use a break from the mountain of paperwork I have." "Don't stay out too late," the long haired captain cautioned. "We have a meeting fairly early tomorrow." "Same goes for you." He smirked. Ukitake smiled at that remark before waving to the boy and heading off toward his quarters. Hitsugaya continued on and quickly reached one of the many forests in Soul Society. After a few minutes of walking, he began to cough lightly. He continued his path until he was forced to lean against a tree to keep from falling due to the light-headedness he was feeling. "No good," he groaned as a severe coughing fit wracked his body, forcing him to his knees. "I can't get sick, not now." He wiped a bit of saliva from the corner of his mouth as his vision began to blur. "I should head back." As he slowly turned around, turquoise eyes widened as they fell upon a very familiar figure that was slowly walking toward him. "Aizen!" he growled as he quickly withdrew his Zanpakutou. "Hitsugaya-taichou," the brunette cooed, still moving closer to the boy. "What a pleasant surprise." The young shinigami blinked his eyes a few times to get rid of the blurriness. "Souten ni zase, Hyourinmaru!" he gasped out, releasing his shikai form. "As always, you waste no time conversing." The white haired shinigami swung his sword, releasing a barrage of ice toward the traitor. He knew he would easily dodge the attack, so he charged in behind it, sword at the ready. Aizen easily blocked the ice, but was not prepared for the boy to charge in so soon, especially considering his condition. Just as the sword was swinging upward to cut him, the former captain used shunpo to get behind the boy. Turquoise eyes widened considerably as the taller man's arms wrapped around him in a gentle embrace. "What's the matter?" the brunette teased. "You seem slower than usual." Hitsugaya used shunpo to escape the shinigami's embrace, however, his sash and sheath had fallen off in the process. The young captain began to pant heavily as he stared at the traitor through blurred vision, a good distance away. "You appear to be running a fever," Aizen teased him again. 'No good,' the boy thought. 'I can't fight him like this. I have to go and get help.' Suddenly he turned and began to run. "You know you won't get very far." The former captain easily caught up to the boy. Hitsugaya attempted to jump away, but was easily grabbed by the collar of his haori from behind. Thinking quickly, he threw his arms upward and slid out of his haori, continuing his objective the moment his feet touched the ground. The brunette merely smirked and tossed the haori aside. Using the last bit of his strength, the young shinigami used shunpo a couple times to further the gap between the two. After a few more moments of running he could see the edge of the forest off in the distance. 'Just a bit farther,' he thought. Without warning, the path in front of him began to spin and blur. His head felt like it was swimming and he was struggling to stay afloat. As his breathing became much more labored, and he began stumbled, he still pushed his hardest to continue running. Finally, just a small distance from the edge of the forest, his legs gave out and the young captain collapsed to the ground, barely conscious. Suddenly, a large hand reached down and grabbed a handful of spiky white hair. Aizen easily pulled the boy up enough to get a look at his flushed face. "You should have stayed in bed today," he said while smirking. Hitsugaya could no longer fight it as his body went limp. He felt the sensation of being lifted before his vision slowly went black.Matsumoto awoke with a start early the next morning. She wasn't sure why, but something felt off to her. She dressed slowly, trying to determine the uneasy feeling she had, but turned up blank. The busty shinigami decided to head to the captain's quarters. Perhaps he could help ease this feeling. However, upon arriving, she noticed that the place was empty and the captain was nowhere to be seen. This made her uneasy feeling even worse.
"That's odd," she said as she saw the stack of papers on his desk. "He's usually here, either working or sleeping." She picked up one of the reports and her eyes widened slightly. "These are from yesterday! Something's definitely wrong; he always finishes his work on time." Setting the report back down, she exited the room. "Perhaps he went for a walk? Mmm," she moaned, "But then his paperwork would be done of he'd be there working on it now." The vice-captain held her chin in her hand as her legs mindlessly carried her toward the nearest court yard. "What are you mumbling about so early in the morning?" Matsumoto's gaze shifted up and fell upon that of Hisagi and Kira. "Shuuhei…" The raven haired vice-captain's face grew worried. "Is something wrong?" "I can't seem to find Hitsugaya-taichou," she answered. "He wasn't looking too good yesterday. I fear he may have collapsed somewhere." "We'll help you look," Kira offered. "Thanks," she responding while smiling. "We should hurry then," Hisagi added. "Otherwise, he'll be late for the captain's meeting.""Hey, Yama-jii," Kyouraku said, successfully getting the old man's attention. "We can't start without Hitsugaya-taichou."
"He appeared to have a fever when I bumped into him last night," Ukitake stated. "He's probably resting in his quarters." "I'll stop by his quarters later to check on him," Unohana added, trying to put all worries at ease. "Enough," the head captain ordered, effectively silencing the room. "He'll just have to be informed later." There was a pause. "I'm certain you're all aware of the current situation we face. Soifon-taichou, what do you have to report?" "Upon investing Central 46," she started, "We discovered that Aizen was looking for something in daireishokairou, however, we currently have no leads as to what he was looking for." "Hmm," the old man grunted. "Ukitake-taichou, Kyouraku-taichou, I want you both to further investigate this." "Understood," the white haired captain acknowledged. "Aw," Kyouraku groaned, "Sticking me with the boring stuff." "Unohana-taichou," Genryuusai continued, completely ignoring the lazy captain. "Since you'll be checking on Hitsugaya-taichou, inform him that he needs to submit a list of five shinigami that will accompany him to the transient world as he will be on guard there in Karakura town." "I'll be sure to," she responded. "But it's urgent!" a muffled female voice called out from behind the doors. All eyes in the room fell upon the two large wooden doors. "I'm sorry," another muffled voice called out, "But there's a meeting in progress. Non-captains are forbidden from entering!" More muffled noises followed that sounded like a skirmish. Suddenly, there was a loud thud followed quickly by another muffled voice yelling for the person to stop. The large doors quickly swung open to reveal a panic stricken Matsumoto. In her arms she held her precious captain's Zanpakutou and haori. "Matsumoto-fukutaichou!" the head captain bellowed. "What is the meaning of this?" Suddenly, the alarm sounded. "All officers are to report to their posts immediately and await further instructions from their captains!" The message continued to be repeated several more times. "Matsumoto!" he bellowed again, ignoring the alarm. "Taichou," she panted. "Taichou has…" The busty shinigami collapsed to her knees. "Hitsugaya-taichou has been kidnapped!"Turquoise eyes slowly peeled open and instantly began scanning the room. His eyes fell upon a small barred window that revealed a black sky and a crescent moon.
"Where am I?" he mumbled while sitting up. He instantly grabbed his head in an attempt to stop the spinning sensation. As soon as the dizzy spell subsided, he lowered his and stared at it. "Not good, I still have a fever." His gaze shifted back to the room. It was a fairly bare room. There was a short square glass table in the middle of the room with a rather comfortable looking cream colored chair near it. A good distance behind the table and chair was a door, or at least it looked like one. There was no door know so it was difficult to tell. The captain currently sat on a large bed on the wall opposite of the door. The bed was pushed up against the corner and the wall. It wasn't anything fancy. Two cream colored pillows rested at the top and a fairly thin cream colored comforter lay across the bed, covering the young shinigami up to his hips. Hitsugaya slid the comforter off with the intent to figure a way out. However the moment the blanket was moved, his face turned bright red. "Why am I naked?" came the surprised yell. Just then, what the captain suspected was a door, swung open. Overrun by panic, he dove back under the comforter not wanting to be seen naked. Hiding under the blanket, the white haired boy took shallow breaths as he heard the door shut and footsteps coming closer toward him. "Hmm," there was a pause as the footsteps stopped. "I wonder where Hitsugaya-taichou could be hiding?" The voice was very familiar and laced with sarcasm. There was another paused followed by more footsteps. "Oh well. If he's not here, guess he won't be needing these clothes. I'll just toss them out the window here." "Wait!" he called out while jumping out of the bed, landing over by the window. Much to his surprise his "guest" was sitting in the chair. "Hmm," one sky blue eye opened completely. "It's bigger than I thought." Hitsugaya's hands instantly flew to cover his most private region. "Shut it!" he shouted. Without warning, the former captain stood from the chair and began a slow stride over to the young shinigami, his trademark smile in place. With each step he took, Hitsugaya matched it by taking a step backward. "Ichimaru," he growled. "Ooh, scary," the silver haired man cooed as he stopped his advance as his prey was backed against the wall. "What do you want with me?" Turquoise eyes widened as Ichimaru suddenly appeared in front of him, a little too close for comfort. Cupping the boy's chin and tilting it upwards he said, "Personally, I want nothing from you, but you see…" He paused as his face inched closer to the shorter boy's. "Aizen-taichou has plans for you." With that, he closed the distance and engulfed the boy's lips, forcing entry into his mouth. Hitsugaya instinctively swallowed before quickly shoving the taller man away from him. Wiping a small amount of liquid from the corner of his mouth, he glared viciously. "What did you give me?" Just then, his vision began to blur. Clutching his head, the captain began to stumble a bit as he started to lose his sense of balance. As he was falling forward, Ichimaru caught him. "What…" was all he could manage. "Its medicine," the former captain answered. "You should feel better after you rest." He scooped the smaller boy up into his arms and headed over to the bed. "You're useless to Aizen in this state." He laid the barely conscious shinigami in the bed and covered him with the comforter. "Don't worry, I won't ever hurt you." Hitsugaya barely heard the last bit as he slipped into a drugged sleep."Are you sure about this?" Genryuusai questioned the female vice-captain before him.
"Positive," Matsumoto responded. "In the forest where we found Hitsugaya-taichou's Zanpakutou and haori, there were two traces of reiatsu left behind. One belonged to taichou and the other to Aizen. There was no mistaking it." "I see," the old man replied. "How are we going to get him back?" Ukitake asked. "Without his Zanpakutou, I can't imagine him being able to escape." "For now, we'll do nothing," the head captain ordered. "Why not?" Matsumoto cried out, furious. Genryuusai slammed his wooden can against the floor. "Hitsugaya-taichou can handle himself for the time being. We will continue with preparations as previously discussed. You're all dismissed!"(A/N: I know Ichimaru's dialogue is different. I don't speak Ichimaru very well. . Also, the daireishokairou is the Great Spirit Library that Aizen was hiding out in during the Soul Society arc. For those of you who watch the dub, I'm sorry. I've never watched it dubbed and will never do so. If you can't figure out what some of the Japanese words are, google it. I'm a hardcore fan of the sub, and have no intentions of using translations of attacks or attempt translations of honorifics. As always, if you read it, please review it!)
