Author’s Notes: This is my second Bleach fanfic, as well as my second IkkaYumi. The first one is on FanFiction.net. I’ve fallen absolutely in love with this pairing. The one-kiss-away-from-canon element to it helps a bunch. It’s on almost the same level as Juubei and Kazuki in GetBackers (whom I also love together).
Like with my first IkkaYumi story, this most likely takes place before canon. I don’t have a set timeframe for it, to be honest.
Bleach, Yumichika, and Ikkaku don’t belong to me (duh). If they did, this pairing would very much be canon. Hee.

The room that met his eyes as he pushed the sliding door open was dark, deserted. No surprise there. It was after midnight, so the small house’s occupant was sure to be in bed sleeping.
Madarame Ikkaku slid the door closed again and crouched down to remove his waraji. Despite the late hour, he was just coming home from an assignment in the living world, an assignment that, regrettably, Yumichika hadn’t been able to accompany him on. The raven-haired shinigami had pitched a fit when he learned they would be separated. Ikkaku, though he was also disappointed with their being split up, hadn’t reacted in such a dramatic way. He had instead focused his energies on placating Yumichika, reassuring the smaller man that he would be back as soon as he possibly could. That had calmed his lover somewhat.
He still looked like a little lost puppy when I left, Ikkaku thought with an affectionate smile, remembering the adorable look of dismay on Yumichika’s face as he saw Ikkaku off on his mission.
Leaving his discarded waraji by the door, Ikkaku made his way to the bedroom. He felt Yumichika’s familiar reiatsu, muted with sleep. He had missed that feeling while he was gone, and having it wash over his senses again was like stepping from darkness into light. He hadn’t been aware of just how much he missed Yumichika until he was home again, and he quickly returned to his lover’s presence.
A faint sigh of appreciation exited his throat as he entered the room. There he was on the futon, lying on his side facing the door. Shafts of moonlight entered through an open window, illuminating pale skin and playing amongst hair the darkest shade of black.
Ayasegawa Yumichika lay there, perfection personified. He was wearing a plain white yukata, his normal sleeping attire. One hand was underneath the pillow, the other curled into a loose fist near his face. His hair had fallen over his face, partially hiding the serene expression that graced his flawless features. His breathing was slow and even, his side subtly rising and falling in time with his breaths. He was the very picture of peacefulness.
Ikkaku closed the bedroom door and took a moment to admire his lover’s beauty. This was the man who owned Ikkaku’s heart and soul, the one who meant more to him than anything else in the world. Yumichika had burrowed his way deeply into Ikkaku’s thoughts and affections and, when they were alone, brought out his tender side. Before he had met Yumichika, Ikkaku hadn’t known he could be gentle, but with Yumichika it just came naturally. Oh, his partner enjoyed rough sex just as much as he did, but it was Yumichika who had shown him just how blissfully wonderful slow, attentive lovemaking could be.
Yumichika was Ikkaku’s one weak point, and he was thankful his lover was such a powerful warrior. If he had fallen in love with someone who couldn’t defend himself (or herself), Ikkaku knew the threat of his beloved being used against him would have been much, much higher. As the Eleventh Division’s third seat, the potential for gaining enemies was high, but Yumichika’s deadliness in combat was solid assurance that trying to get to Ikkaku through him would be a lost cause.
He removed Houzukimaru and placed the sword on a set of wall pegs just below an identical set holding Fuji Kujaku. He then began to undress for bed. I don’t think I ever would fall in love with someone who couldn’t defend themselves, he thought. Part of what attracted him to Yumichika in the first place was the other man’s skill with a sword. It focused more on speed and technique than brute strength, unlike with many members of the Eleventh. Yumichika’s fighting style complemented Ikkaku’s perfectly, their partnership seeming so natural that both of them wondered just how they had managed before meeting the other.
Now, so many decades later, after so many years of living together and fighting at each other’s side, they were just as much in love as they had ever been. Perhaps even more than they had ever been. It seemed that with each passing season their bond only grew deeper.
I really am a lucky man, Ikkaku thought, slipping into a pair of loose pants. To be so in love with such a beautiful creature, and to be loved just as much in return, was far more than Ikkaku ever would have thought he deserved. Yumichika, however, had assured him many times that he was indeed worthy of the other man’s love, and would have never received it in the first place if he wasn’t.
Ikkaku knelt down and slid into bed next to Yumichika. His lover’s warmth drew him close, and he pulled the other man flush against him, laying Yumichika’s arm across his neck. He brushed his hand down Yumichika’s side and gripped him gently behind one knee, pulling the finely muscled leg over himself and draping it over his hip and thigh. An equally soft sound emerged from Yumichika’s throat, and the dark-haired man began to stir. Before he was even aware, his subconscious recognized his lover’s reiatsu, his grasp tightening until he was holding Ikkaku of his own accord.
The larger man smiled, basking in the other’s presence. He relished the feel of those slender limbs wrapped around him, and the last several nights had left him sorely deprived. He could feel the first signs of arousal beginning to flutter deep within him.
“Mmm…Ikkaku…” Yumichika sighed, his eyes opening just enough for slivers of violet to show through. Finding himself tangled up in Ikkaku’s embrace upon waking was far from unusual, so for a few seconds the smaller man didn’t react at all. After a moment, however, he stiffened up, eyes flying wide. “Ikkaku!”
Ikkaku grinned, amused by his lover’s belated realization of his return. “Hey there, gorgeous.”
“Oh, Ikkaku!” Yumichika breathed, pressing his forehead to Ikkaku’s bare shoulder. “You’re back!” His grip had tightened dramatically, holding onto the other man as if his life depended on it.
“Yeah, I’m back,” he said, still grinning. He ran his fingers through Yumichika’s silky hair, massaging the other man’s scalp. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too!” Yumichika sniffed, looking up into Ikkaku’s dark eyes. “I missed you so much!”
“C’mon,” Ikkaku chided gently, “you’re acting like I was gone for a year. It’s only been a few days!”
“I-I know,” Yumichika said, trying to rein in his emotions. “I know it’s just been a few days, and I wasn’t worried for you. I knew you’d never let anything happen to you on such a simple assignment. I just…I’ve been so lonely without you.”
“Oh, Yumi,” Ikkaku sighed, “you really are a woman sometimes, y’know?”
“Shut up!” Yumichika shot back, but he was laughing as he said it. He hugged Ikkaku tightly again. “I’m glad you’re back, lover.”
“Yeah, me too.” He closed his eyes as Yumichika raised his head again and kissed him. “Mmm…”
Yumichika traced the seam of Ikkaku’s lips with his tongue, but then withdrew. He said nothing, but the way he looked at Ikkaku through his eyelashes, his lips turning up in a coy smile, spoke volumes.
Ikkaku growled low in his throat and latched his mouth onto Yumichika’s neck, nipping and sucking the smooth skin there. He gripped the smaller man’s hips and ground their bodies together, earning a moan of anticipation from his lover.
