Title: Changing the Stars A/N: I've grown tired of writing one-shots, so here is another series, another I don't really know where it's going or how it will end. It's fun to write that way. This part contains harassment
Zaraki Kenpachi rarely cared about anything except Yachiru and fighting, but when he had first lay eyes on the mismatched duo wandering the streets of Rukongai so many years ago, he had felt a spark of amusement not tinted by bloodlust. Both of them had held that weariness he himself carried, the sense of no longer caring what happened, the drive to move stronger than finding a home. Living to see the sun set, a makeshift roof and something to stave off the cold of night enough, limbs growing restless if they didn't keep moving.
He had watched them as the bald man, Ikkaku, had challenged him and lost, adrenaline running through Kenpachi's veins for the first time in too long. The black-haired, more feminine man had looked worried, yet his voice betrayed nothing, his stance relaxed and curious.
Madarame Ikkaku and Ayasegawa Yumichika. Fiercely loyal, but not obedient. Strong, funny and sometimes downright annoying. Kenpachi had noted with some aggression that his fighting time had been cut down drastically after the two of them joined his squad, yet he couldn't really make himself care. They usually sorted out the weaklings, leaving the fun fights to their commander. Ikkaku was the lazy one, bored with almost everything except poking fun at Abarai and Matsumoto. The third seat was never late with a report, never missed a patrol assignment and never got in Kenpachi's way. They had sparred once after the bald man had found him, Kenpachi finding himself laughing in excitement at the cuts raking down his skin, the headache Ikkaku's scabbard had produced making the world tilt just so. He was a hot-head, easily distracted by an insult, always eager to fight over the slightest wrong, or for fun. Yachiru liked Ikkaku as soon as she saw him, which in Kenpachi's book made the shorter man acceptable, even though the shorter man wasn't overly fond of the vice-captain. Yumichika was creepy. Matsumoto had once described the man as being like a Venus fly trap. Beautiful and soothing to look at, kind and smiling to the people he liked, and completely ruthless in battle. The feminine man was composed and hard to rile. Patient and understanding and he adored his vice-captain. A voice that turned soft and silken as he would rip an opponent to shreds with his zanpakuto, or high pitched in laughter at something Abarai or Hisagi said. Yumichika's endless supply of treats for Yachiru bought the beautiful man a seat in heaven, as far as the vice-captain was concerned. Few of the members of the 11 th squad had ever dared to cross the fifth seat, and the ones, mostly men, who had made an inappropriate pass at him had gotten an extended stay in fourth division's Relief Station. Kenpachi counted the third and fifth seat of his division his friends, something akin to friendship in his mind. Only Kurosaki Ichigo had an equal standing in his mind. The two of them hadn't been in the 11 th division for very long before Ikkaku noticed the attention his friend was attracting from some of the rowdier unseated members of the division. The bald man already knew that Yumichika was a beautiful man, living with him for so many years, constantly bombarded by that very comment. Yumichika was good looking and made sure everyone knew it. Wandering the streets of the backwaters of Rukongai had, however, taught both of them how to defend themselves – Ikkaku against angry opponents, Yumichika against those who would want revenge against Ikkaku or those who thought him an easy target. The first time it happened, they had been drinking, which wasn't that unusual in their division. Someone was always hung-over or drunk or both. Ikkaku and Yumichika spent their evening slacking off next to Kenpachi, who was playing some kind of game with Yachiru. To Ikkaku's drunken mind it was too complicated to follow, but his friend eagerly looked on, trying to figure out the patterns. Suddenly, a very drunk, very smelly man stumbled to his feet, whispered encouragements from his friends following. Some days worth of wild beard drenched in sake and spit covered his chin and the uniform was undone and sloppy. Ikkaku had just enough time to think that Kuchiki-taichou would have killed this man for being so disgraceful before said man put a greasy hand on Yumichika's shoulder and leaned in, leering. Ikkaku gripped the neck of the sake bottle harder, fighting an urge to smash it against the man's head. "Yer weri pretty, ye no that, 'ight?" Ikkaku would have broken the man's neck, had it not been for the glare Yumichika shot the captain and the third seat, followed by a nearly imperceptible shake of his head. With a sneer of disgust, Yumichika just shoved the man's hand away from his shoulder, a full body shiver wrecking the lithe form as he looked at the hand print left on the formerly clean material. "Yes, I do know that. Leave me alone." Yumichika's voice was low and soft, and Ikkaku almost felt sorry for the idiot. Looking over at the captain, he saw Kenpachi trying to hide a grin. This would be good. The hand returned to Yumichika's shoulder as the drunk leaned back in, anger slowly rising in the unpleasant face. "Why's a pretty bo' like ye ofcer an' no't meh? Wanna sho' me watcha did to be offcer?" Kenpachi could no longer hide the broad grin, and Ikkaku nearly fell over laughing as his friend's face split into the most pleasant smile imaginable. Quickly the hand was shoved away again and Yumichika slowly rose to his feet. The drunk, who was leering again, was a good three inches taller than the fifth seat. "Are you sure you want that demonstration? I can't see if you are serious under all that ugliness." Yumichika's voice was still soft, almost inviting, yet rung through the hall with surprising strength. "I guess it can't be helped, your nasty paws have already ruined my clothes." With that, Yumichika shocked the drunken daze right out of Ikkaku's head by removing the orange sleeve and neck accessory and ripping the sleeves off the robe. Taking a look at Kenpachi, the captain seemed to mirror Ikkaku's confusion, while Yachiru decided that the scarf like fabric would be a great hat. The skin revealed was as flawless as Ikkaku remembered, not a single scar adorning the slender arms. Remembering times when those arms would sling around his neck, soft and inviting lips claiming his own, the bald man suddenly felt his hakama growing tighter. "Ayasegawa!" Kenpachi's voice startle everyone and Yumichika turned to look at the captain. "Yes, taichou?" "Try te not kill him. Replacing fodder is so hard. The other divisions don' like us." The smile didn't even change as Yumichika just replied with a "I will do my best, taichou." and turned back to the idiot. Said idiot had turned red in anger and with a bellow, knocked Yumichika to the ground. Below the drunk, Yumichika struggled to get free and Ikkaku could hear a "Get OFF me, you ugly, smelly ditch water rag!" before a red light exploded and the bigger man was tossed a good ten feet away by the force of the kidou. The fifth seat jumped to his feet, zanpakuto in hand, and his face contorted in anger. Stalking up to the fallen man, he lifted the drunkard by the collar and seemingly without effort threw him into the nearby wall, rattling the boards. The hall had turned silent, all eyes on the two men fighting. Then the beautiful man relaxed and smiled again. Yumichika's spirit force was pulsing in azure blue, his eyes twirling in blue and purple, and Ikkaku thought he had never seen his friend so stunningly beautiful before. "The captain said not to kill you, so I will ask you to not get up. I'm not sure I can follow his order if you come close to me again." That same soft voice lifted to the ceiling, then Yumichika turned on his heel and left, applauds accompanying him. Ikkaku dragged himself to his feet and followed just a few minutes later, after struggling to get the orange accessories back from Yachiru. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
