Reviews for The Risky Art of Listening

Something has to be said about the beautiful manner in which you write IshiHime and IchiRuki. I mean, you weave characterizations so well that it is believable.

It's not one of those fics where Orihime falls out of love with Ichigo in 2 paragraphs. It actually develops and thus makes more sense. I've always been a IshiHime fan- I think it was that Soul Society Arc so I hope it ends up an eventuality.

And also the relationship of Ichigo and Rukia is dead on. I honestly can't picture them as anything else but how you've written them.

This had humor, fluff and angst all rolled into a delicious read. I imagine only IchiHime fans would be disappointed. Anyone else would love it. I surely did!

Thank you for such a beautiful piece!

Excellent job. Ishida is just so sexy and dreamy the way you write him. And I love his care for Orihime, but also his anger at feeling he was a replacement for Ichigo. Orihime's reaction seemed so spot on.

    You write the characters beautifully.

yayz debbie!! I've finally read my first fic by u!

Hot Quincy smex, is as I had imagined, hawt. I adored ur Ishida, neurotic and smart, and just a little dashing. But really just sweet, a self-imposed isolate if ever there was one. Reading a Bleach fic for once where Ichigo and Rukia were not the main pair was actually quite enjoyable, u captured their relationship very simply, managing to have them co-dependent (to me, to me) and snarky and cute, without having them be over-bearing.

I think canon would catch ablaze if Ishida ever took advice from Ichigo. XD

As for Inoue, I admit in the beginning I didn't like her, and was surprised when I did in Part 2. Please tell no one. lulz. I guess I can see where ur writing her from, and I've always approached her outwardly innocent manner with cynicism, 'cause I'm jaded, but I liked ur Inoue because she's more complete than the canon allows her to be. More like a sweet girl with a big heart, capable of great loves. I actually admired her goofy progression to a strong ending. I blame ur Ishida, since he was love, I just accepted his POV. Haven't read anything of Inoue from anyone apart from the IchiRuki crowd, and I can see the difference in that the fic actually cares about Inoue, rather than using her as a tragic, weepy tool. Ur inclusion of the school friends was also

Last note, even if I know ur from Louisiana, I can totally tell by ur writing. Its like English writers and their tea and rainy weather. Or New Yorkers with their coffee and cigs and sounds of traffic, the French and their cobblestones, or the Irish and their depression. Writers from the American South always have that sticky, moist heat...and sexually expressive teenager, oh my.

Well that's just my neurosis really. Anyway, brilliant job, and don't be scared, this isn't stalking.

(I do not review often, but I do review at length. Be forewarned.)

One of my good friends has been cultivating a new interest in Bleach. Because of that, I have been curious as to why the series has become interesting to him, and I have, accordingly, been doing a little research. In the course of that, I have discovered the rather ... extreme reactions of Bleach fandom to poor Orihime, and I have been asking myself why she attracts all of the opprobrium that she does. Naturally, that means I have decided to go and have a peak at Bleach 'fic featuring Orihime, and this is the first piece that attracted my attention. Now that I have read both parts of the story, I feel that it is more than deserving of a positive review.

I will admit, from the start, that my knowledge of Bleach is incomplete, though it is starting to expand. I apologize in advance for not commenting on certain aspects that only those with a correct grasp of canon can notice.

You have done a very good job of painting pictures of the characters in your employ, both in terms of the primary couple (Ishida / Orihime) and the secondary couple (Ichigo / Rukia) you have set up as a foil and / or comparison. I did not feel as though I needed to have in-depth canon at hand to understand the characters and their motivations, and that speaks to the strength of the story. Indeed, the characters – except for a handful in the background, but that is to be expected – did not blend together, and I had the sense that I was able to get to know them and appreciate their emotional states. You struck the right balance between showing and telling, IMO.

Alternating the point of view was also a good way to approach the central conflict of the plot. By switching from Ishida to Orihime – internal points of view – to the external point of view represented by their friends, you painted a complete picture of everything that was involved with the situation, and I did not feel as though I was missing any key information. The overall curve of the plot – from conflict to (literal!) climax to resolution – was also paced in a way that did not make anything feel incomplete or rushed. Very good!

Of course, the sex was, to all appearances, both in-character and appropriately hot, but you do not need me to tell you that. You had sufficient build-up and character history for the encounter to believably happen.

In any case, this story has left me with a very positive impression of not only Orihime, but of the cast in general, and I now feel that the Bleach manga is going to be worth a long-term borrow from my aforementioned good friend / Rukia fan. Thank you for converting me, and thank you for taking the time to write this story in the first place. I sincerely hope that you find the inspiration to do additional stories for the fandom, though, admittedly, you already have quite a pile of them. Please have a good day.

LOL That was great and very in character for all parties. Poor Tatsuki... The Ichigo/Rukia parts were hilarious, especially his "proposal". The Orihime/Ishida parts were wonderful as well, but in a different waffy way. I'd defintily like to see a sequel to this. Maybe the sequel can have a Ichigo/Rukia lemon too?

Did I mention in my last review how incredibly powerful your writing is? If not, then I humbly apologize and throw myself upon your mercy. The second half was by far more deliciously striking, so perfect in its urgency... I am awed, breathless and more than a little jealous -- both of your supreme fluency, and of the whirlwind ride of lust and burgeoning love between Ishida and Orihime. Splendid job, and I will be eagerly awaiting the sequel!

Omg, I always love your fics but this one was just too good. You always manage to capture just the right mood and make Ishida and Orihime completely believable. Keep up the great work. I'll be looking forward to the sequel so get it published as soon as humanly possible. Hehe. And it would be really great if you would continue on the Rukia Ichigo line too, cause i think you really nailed the two of them as how they would be if they were in a relationship....Lol. Bottom line, i loved it.

Oh, wow! This is INSANELY good! I am primarily an IchiRuki shipper, but there is something definitely appealing about the way you write IshiHime... I want more, and very badly! Please continue this! I can't wait to read more!
