Great chapter as always. It's not as much freezing here as snow... much more than we've had in the past 2 winters and now here comes the ice. I'm right outside Philadelphia and it seems we're stuck in a storm trough. I'd much rather deal with snow than ice though. Stay warm.

    Hi.

Have to tell you that, in my opinion, each chapter is getting better and better. I am loving your characterization of Starke; your growing humanity of Ulquirra; the developing love between Toshiro and Haribel and certainly, not to be excluded, the continuing love between Karen and Grimmjow. This is a love story, a mystery and a story about survival and how to o over come.
I can't wait till WEDNESDAY mornings to read the next chapter.

Thank you to you and Blackfoxx for continuing to share this story.

Love the chapters. Wonder if Yoroichi will find out what's going on before anyone notices her. I'm hoping she figures out how to get ahead of the attack march so she can catch up with Karin and company. It would be great if she could meet with them and the swarm reps to organize the overthrow of Aizen.

Books/Novels: the Sai Yuki series and the Gen/Sime novel series.

Here we are colder than normal but much warmer than most of the country ... In the low 40s tonight.

Frigid, had to drive to campus today in the middle of a snowstorm, not fun, now that the question is answered my my, I did not expect Aizen to personally be leaving to hunt the swarm, this has excellent opportunity to strike him down written all over it...Hopefully with Yammy dying at the same time, as much of an S.O.B as Barragan is, he's definitely below those two on the kill list...though not by much given what he did to Soi Fon, and nice move by Karin leaving Starrk in charge of punishing Szayl.

Well.....this chapter certainly did not make my already near non-existent love for the Arrancar any better.

I pity all those who have to put up with being claimed and the sheer humiliation that comes with being considered a pet, but Byakuya's situation takes the cake. A majority of the other claimed are more or less everyday average ranked shinigami or civilians and don't hold much prominence in the SS, but he is the head of one of the great clans and due to being claimed by Yammy and made a slave, his prestige has taken a massive nosedive and those who once respected and perhaps were in awe of him or feared him now view him as some sort of plaything to a hollow or simply pity him. Ajuga and Rukia are the only things he has left and now both of them are at the moment lost to him. And it still pisses me off that most of the other hollows don't really see his treatment as "wrong" but more or less idiotic since they are at war and need all the able bodied fighters they can get. Even the ones that view his abuse as disgusting don't care enough to really intervene. Even with aizen's law about claims, Starrk has proven that he can negotiate with the man and if he brings up that Yammy is making Byakuya an ineffective soldier and he should be placed under starrks charge, Aizen may very well do it to keep his top soldier in a good mood and too punish Yammy. But unless the situation directly affects their "packs" they won't really raise a tizzy beyond disapproving glares. This actually makes me curious as to how the other claimed shinigami are viewed by their non claimed comrades and family.

Despite knowing what kind of monster Aizen is, I am continually surprised that he let's Yammy get away with so much and punishes others when they how the same disrespect. If it wasn't for Yammy's destructive power I like to think Aizen would have done away with the brute decades ago. And again, say what you will, he is a horrible piece of trash but he is no fool and it was wise to place Ukitake and Nanao in charge of things while he was away. If the man actually had a soul he would be a truly effective leader. Will be interesting to see how they manage to keep the numeros in line and whether or not Yammy will prove to be a problem and since Byakuya is not around whether or not he will turn his attention to another poor soul. And after the meeting for a minute their I though Aizens form of a more "permanent" punishment would have been castration for poor old renji.............oh come on, you could totally see him doing that so get that look off of your face lol. And I can't decide if it's cute or depressing how Renji can talk about his loss to the kids father so easily and I have to remind myself that the children don't know the full story to the winter war.

I see the sense in Yuro not wanting to pick a fight with Aizens forces upon their return but wouldn't it be wiser to now that he and most of his strongest fighters are away from the city to do what she excels at and get some info on the remaining forces and meet up with Ukitake and nanao and perhaps find a way to "thin the herd" of arrancar while the overlord his his generals are away? She and the escapees wouldn't even have to stay, they could just arrive, take out the remaining weaker numeros, dog pile on Yammy and end his ass and get any of the shinigami forces who want to leave to safety along with the remaining captains and LT's and get the hell out of dodge before Aizen returns. Gorilla warfare and without aizen and his Espeda there to slow them down they can cause a huge dent in Aizens regime and free the claimed shinigami still within the city AND get the pregnant individuals out of harms way. That way after aizen returns. there will be no one caught in the crossfire should Karin put her plan into motion as the city would have been liberated and those who wanted to go set free and leaving Aizen with very few fighters/meet shield at his beck and call. True Aizen will be pissed to all hell but the more moral Espada won't let him hurt their pets/"mates".

Yikes did not mean for that last paragraph to drag on like that lol. Most of it was just wishful thinking anyway.

so I went by fanfiction.net like you suggested and holy hell that reviewer is a prick, don't let haters get ya down. that asshole has only written 2 stories and from I gleamed they sucked to high heaven. I tend to leave passionate reviews at times but I hope I have never insulted you like that colossal douche has.

-waits patiently for the next chapter-

Loved it! :) Can't wait for the next chapter! Quick question though - How far along are Rangiku and Tatsuki now?

On the book series, I'm in love with the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. Another good series is by C. L. Wilson, the Tairen Soul series.

@Chapter 49: Another great chapter. I'm glad to see that Diaemus is finally up and about. I have mixed feelings about this strike on the hive base, if only because I hate anything that furthers his own agenda. Still, I liked all the in-joke barbs that Karin kept throwing at Grimm. It was also interesting that Ulquiorra was the one to talk down Gimmjrow from getting himself killed, and the ensuing revelation that he was concerned about Ajuga. I did like the fact that he appreciates what she did on a personal level.

As for your question... Well, I'm 29, but back in middle school till about halfway through high school, I read the "Red Wall Abby" books by Scottish writer Brian Jacques. And throughout the rest of high school and into college, I read the Hobbit and all the Lord of the Ring books. More people really should read the books, as they're soooo much better than the movies.

Just finished ch42, and I want to let you know this is THE BEST Bleach fanfic I've ever read. In fact, it's one of the three best fanfics I've read in ten years or more,PERIOD. The other two are "Hearts of Ice" (Ranma 1/2) and "Temple of the Dog" (Inuyasha).

You, my dear, are incredibly creative and talented.

Oh my. I do love Ulquiorra's slow shift, and his son being the sort of 'last straw' is perfect. Very nicely done with this!

As for the question, yes! They really have changed, and it was a gradual thing, as it should be, from what they were. I enjoy that the most about this story. This chapter proved it more than the others, the exchange with Grimmjow and Ulquiorra especially.

I love this story! I have read POV1 and POV2 in a span of 3 days straight and I can't wait for more! Your details to the characters profiles, interactions, and there genetic makeup are envious. I think that Uliqiorra's change was more of the HOLY Sh** he's changed because I thought of him only changing in a family way. He tried to understand Orihime and be civil in relations to other espada dens through her. I saw the father-son discussion over Aizen coming but not Uliqiorra's reaction. I don't know why I thought he would side against his son on the matter. Maybe its the steadfastness protrayed in other fics? idk.
Question: Will there be any chapters on Barragan's and Yammy's mindsets? I am curious as to how hey feel about current change in alliances before the war to now. Also why they do what they do. There are character POVs that have discussed them but I don't remember one solely from their perspective. Maybe there is a backstory reason? Maybe before they are killed (speculation)? Or I can just imagine... you've written so much already.

My deepest apologies for not reviewing before you introduced to so many awesome new pairings. I LOVE YOUR STORY! ..... anyways

I think that they both changed gradually into better people but I also noticed when there was some revelation made like Ulquiorra being proud of his son and Grimmjow giving his daughter advice. I really like the way you made both characters mature over the years.

P.S. Do you have a mailing group or a special mail address to tell readers when you update? because what I'm doing now is saving it as a bookmark and checking on it every couple days.

Another great chapter! And I hope all goes well with your tests- sending good vibes your way. Answering your question: they've definitely changed and for the better. It was something I noticed mainly along the way, the changes being most dramatic when they realized their mates were more then just pets and with the birth of their children. I love the way you've had them change as well. They still have their base personalities, they're just evolved into better versions of themselves.
